guiltea cravings | clairemont

Last weekend Jake, T, and I had dinner at Lolita’s. But I’m not here today to talk about that – surely you know all about Lolita’s! No, no, no. I’m here to talk about some dessert I had at a new spot called GuilTea Cravings. Specifically macarons. Delicious little macarons.

GuilTea Cravings is located right next to the 805 off Clairemont Mesa Blvd. It’s next to a place called Twisted Sushi and Sipz Fusion Cafe. We hit up Comickaze first and then walked over to GuilTea Cravings.

They had colored lights in the wall that slowly kept changing colors.

GuilTea Cravings is still in the “soft opening” stage and they’re planning their grand opening for May 7th with some special deals.

They have a few appetizers and desserts as well.

Here’s what I came for though – the macarons!

They had eight different flavors available on the day we went.

We started off with a cream filled churro. The churro doesn’t take too long to arrive and is served hot.

One bite in and you can easily see the cream in the center of the churro. It was a nice custard cream in the center and it’s pretty decent for a quite, hot dessert. It’s not as amazing as, say, churros in Mexico, but it does have some killer cream in it to give it a little extra ooph. While it was tasty, I’d probably pass on it in the future unless I was having some kind of killer churro craving and I couldn’t get to Mexico.

Macarons! I almost had us head over to Blush Desserts but I’ve been hearing some not so great things about them since the ownership changed. When I discovered that GuilTea Cravings was new and had macarons then the deal was sealed. I picked out six flavors for us to try. T picked Fruity Pebbles though. I wouldn’t have picked that, honestly.

Pretty shells! I liked the hint of Fruity Pebble cereal and the bits of pistachio pieces on top of the macarons.

My favorite of the macarons was the salted caramel one. It wasn’t too sweet and it had a nice salty kick to it at the end which I really liked. The lemon macaron had a really nice tart flavor that I liked as well. The butterfinger macaron really just tasted like a light peanut butter macaron. When I think of Butterfingers, I think of crunchy crispy peanut butter so of course this didn’t have that texture – just a very light peanut butter flavor (and no chocolate).

The strawberry was decent and the pistachio was also good. The fruity pebbles was too sweet for my taste but T really liked it and declared it his favorite.

I really enjoyed these macarons because they had a wonderful texture. When you bite into them, there’s a slight crispness to the shell along with a nice soft and chewy texture.

I didn’t try and teas on this visit so I GUESS I’ll just have to go again to try a tea (and eat more macarons, of course).

    1. Good luck resisting, Soo! I didn’t. But at least I shared everything. Just a little bite of each doesn’t hurt, right?!

  1. That is exactly how macarons should feel/taste when you bite into them. There are some places that make them terribly (too hard, hollow shell, etc). I’ll have to try this place out now, heh heh.

  2. We went here yesterday and they asked me how I heard about them and gave your blog a shout out! I tried a simple black tea and it was SO good, just a skosh of honey and it was perfecto. We also got a fruity pebbles and strawberry macaron, we both liked the FP one, but only my hubs likes the strawberry one, I thought it was a little weird. Salted caramel is on my list now because of your review. I agree, I GUESS you’ll have to go back and get the tea! 😉 😉

    1. Yay! Thanks for telling that story, it gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling haha. I will definitely have to get back over there to try out the teas. I GUESS I’ll get more macarons, too, when I revisit. 😀
