A soil health expert who helped launch a conservation cropping systems initiative in Indiana says getting away from conventional tillage needs to happen in phases.

Barry Fisher serves as the Central Region Leader for the Soil Health Division of the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

He tells Brownfield producers interested in changing tillage practices need to know that the carbon cycle will be affected, a change in equipment will be necessary and their scouting regimen will be different.
