February is Pet Dental Month, and this year I am happy to report that we’re a little better prepared to fight plaque, tartar and bad breath. #nastytrio
In the past I’ve let brushing their teeth “slip” way too often. #trifling
Looking back I realize this was probably because of the scuffles we’d have in the bathroom. #Ineverwon
Last year I wrote a post about RAW MARROW BONES as a natural way to manage and reduce plaque and tartar.
When Doodle Doc told me to give him a bone about once a week. I raced to the butcher only to gag at the smell of raw meat #justnotforme…
Harley even looked at the bones as if to say –
Hey lady – you gonna cook these or something? #barbecuemaybe
Even though we brush on occasion and I give them natural sticks to chew on, I saw plaque build-up and felt like I was letting my boys down.
But a couple of weeks ago things started to turn around. #ohyeahbaby
I finally found some products that are working like #abracadabra …
This is my fav. My magic toothbrush…
Much of my disenchantment with brushing their teeth had been the awkwardness with the toothbrush. This little gem allows me to grip it comfortably so I can really get all the way in the back without loosing it in their mouth (like the finger thingy). The brush is super soft and they seem to enjoy it. #eveninghighlight
They both prefer the vanilla flavored all natural tarter control toothpaste vs. the liver flavored I used in the past #metoo
Hanging out at my holistic store #mycheers talking dogs – health – etc… I mentioned my dismay about my less than stellar attention towards their dental care. They showed me a completely natural product made from seaweed that significantly complements ordinary oral hygiene care.
When I found out just a pinch of this powder sprinkled over their food would help eradicate plaque/tartar AND bad breath – I threw my debit card on the counter #bam
It’s only been about two weeks, and I just had to tell you.
- Their breath is truly #kissable
- Their teeth are starting to sparkle…
I am proud to say – brushing has become a daily routine and happy that they no longer run from me. #nomoredoodlerelays
This is NOT a product review – just me sharing a little #sumpinsumpin with you ❤️
But if you’re interested and want more information –
ONE MORE THING –
I wrote a story in January about an adorable Goldendoodle named Kramer who vanished in December. #remember? And many of you shared his story on your social media sites in hopes of helping.
WELL KRAMER HAS BEEN FOUND…
They said details will be available soon.
Who cares about details – I’m just tickled to doodle that he and his owner Nik will be reunited #happyendings
This is our contribution in the BlogPaws Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Glad to see Kramer has been found. Sad that you are REMINDING my momma that she needs to brush my teeth again today. She already brushed them yesterday. THANK YOU so very, very, VERY, Much. BOL!
BRUSH BRUSH WOOF!
February 10, 2016
Oh Piranha – don’t be mad. Your Mom and I just want to keep you and the Boys healthy so you can live forever.
February 10, 2016
Because we adopted Ruby at about 8, her teeth were already in pretty bad shape. She will be going in for a dental in the next few weeks and I suspect will have a few teeth pulled – ouch.
This tooth brush looks like it might work for her and I will definitely give it a try. Looks much more manageable than those tiny little single finger ones.
I saw an announcement on instagram about Kramer being found. Hurray!
February 10, 2016
Paws crossed that Ruby doesn’t need any pulled. Just remember – we’re never too old to change our ways. Check out the toothbrush and hopefully she will like it as much as Harley & Jax seem to. Let us know how Ruby does at the dentist. We were thrilled to hear the good news about Kramer too!

My sisters and I have been teeth brushing lovers since the day we arrived here with Mom, but we hear some dogs struggle with liking it. We love it and it is so important. It is great to hear you all found the solution. We had finger brushes for a time, but they would fall off so easily and Mom was afraid we would swallow them. Yours looks awesome and is a good way to at least get started with brushing.
February 10, 2016
Hopefully both Boys will begin to feel the same way you ladies do about brushing. That’s my goal.
February 10, 2016
I can’t imagine how relieved Kramer’s owners must be to get that news. Fantastic!
I’m intrigued by the PlaqueOff product. Thanks for sharing it with us, I’m off to check it out and see if it might work well for Haley. The toothbrush is really cool too and better than the type that just slips over the end of your finger.
February 10, 2016
So far Elaine – I’ve seen a difference – quickly. I wasn’t able to get a good pic of Harley’s teeth – I tried. His had some tartar build-up and it’s vanishing. My friend started using it and can’t believe the difference in her dogs breath. I’m all about natural (true natural) and the toothbrush has really made brushing much easier for me and it seems to be more enjoyable/tolerable for them. I thought others might want to know about it. Kramer and Nik being reunited again is wonderful news! So happy for them.
February 10, 2016
You guys have such healthy teeth!
February 10, 2016
Thanks Earl – we’re trying to keep them that way!
February 10, 2016
A lot of pet owners do not understand the importance of dental health in their animals. Thank you for the post!
February 10, 2016
Hi Lisa – you are so welcome. I understood but wasn’t acting like it. I wanted to share my new “easy and effective” routine in hopes of helping others. Thanks so much for reading! Come back again soon 🙂
February 10, 2016
I’m so glad to see Kramer has been found! My cat’s dental health has been very good so far. I feed him some special treats for dental health, but I never tried brushing his teeth.
February 10, 2016
You know Rosa – you’ve got me thinking. Do people brush cat’s teeth? hmmmmm Yeah – we were pretty excited when we heard the news about Kramer. Love happy endings!
February 10, 2016
I’ve never seen a tooth brush like that, it looks really fun and easy to use! You sure have some pearly white teeth!!! 🙂
February 10, 2016
Thanks Spencer. The toothbrush is super cool to use – makes brushing fun!
February 10, 2016
Momma brushes our teeth. If you bite down on the toothbrush it can’t move! BOL
Snorts,
Lily & Edward
February 10, 2016
That’s one way of controlling the situation LOL
February 10, 2016
What a cool toothbrush! Wonder if they make them like that for cats, too? I’ll have to check them out.
How wonderful that Kramer was found. Hooray!
Happy Doodle Day to You ♥
February 10, 2016
Not sure if they make them for cats – but certainly worth looking into! Many people are celebrating the return of Kramer. Social Media truly did it’s thing! #yippee
February 10, 2016
oh, my woofs! My human is ordering the toothbrush now!
and so happy to hear that Kramer has been found!
February 10, 2016
Murphy – tell your human that she will have a much better grip with this toothbrush – it makes dental duty a whole lot easier for me and them!
February 10, 2016
I got an email (not sure how I got on the list) that Kramer had been found. That’s amazing.
Your dogs’ teeth are gorgeous.
We use raw meaty bones. The smell of raw meat doesn’t bother me anymore, but I remember the initial gag reflex; especially with marrow bones -still don’t give our dogs those. Yuck.
February 10, 2016
I got an email too – not sure either. Happy he’s back also. What kind of bones do you give them? I need something less smelly and slimy please #likeyoumakebones LOL What would you recommend for an easily nauseated Doodle Mom?
February 10, 2016
Kimberly – the seaweed is really making a huge difference with their teeth! The plaque on the back molars are literally disappearing and their breath carries no unpleasant odor – even in the morning. This will now become my staple for dental hygiene.#gonatural #goseaweed
February 10, 2016
That is a cool pet toothbrush! I like the way the handle is made for a person to easily hold it while brushing the dog’s teeth. Those finger thingies can be really tough to keep on with a struggling pet! I’m glad to see that those teeth are looking so good. 🙂
February 12, 2016
The finger thingie didn’t do it for us Robin – it made the process so difficult – I hated doing it. They did too! So far, they seem to associate this as some sort of treat that involves me. I’ll go with that!
February 10, 2016
hmph, I gave up the whole tooth brushing long ago. I love the tooth brush and paste you found., Thanks for letting us see it
LeeAnna
February 12, 2016
LeeAnna – I know how you feel – but believe me this thing has changed everyone’s opinion about canine dental health. I love using it, and they seem to enjoy me all up in their mouth!
February 10, 2016
Bentley loves to have his teeth brushed but Pierre has been a different story. He has finally decided it is not torture and will wait his turn. The Doodles’ teeth look great. I am so happy for Kramer and his family!
February 12, 2016
So far with this new toothbrush I’m brushing DAILY! When they see me with mine, Jax comes running! I might need to order a back-up. So happy Kramer’s story has an incredible ending!
February 10, 2016
I haven’t seen that tooth brush before. We brush with a baby tooth brush. I’m glad Kramer was found!
February 12, 2016
A baby toothbrush sounds like just the right size for you too! Kramer and Nik looked so excited to see one another again #asitshoudbe
February 11, 2016
I think that has to be the most ingenius dog toothbrush I’ve seen. I’ll have to look for one like this.
So glad to hear that Kramer has been found. Must be a HUGE relief and the boy must be thrilled to be back with his family. 🙂
February 12, 2016
Lindsay – this morning when I tried to “move” the toothbrush off to the side of the bathroom sink – Jax saw me touch it and came running over to me! I had to brush his teeth after I brushed mine. They love it!
February 28, 2016
Alas, I’m far behind on reading posts but…this one is near and dear to my heart. Thank you for the reminder and on the last day of Dental Month, Sam will be getting his teeth professionally cleaned and his bad mommy has vowed to be more diligent in keeping it up. ღ
February 29, 2016
Monika – you are definitely NOT a bad mommy! You’re human. I have faith in you that once Sam’s teeth are professionally cleaned, you will maintain that sparkle!! I may have to do the same with Harley – can’t seem to get to those back teeth as well as I want. He has an annual physical with his new vet next month, I will ask about them then. Hugs to Sam….
