Rail service shows slight improvement

Agricultural shippers are seeing some improvement in rail service.

Mike Steenhoek, Executive Director of the Soy Transportation Coalition says of the seven largest railroads in the country evaluated, three received higher overall scores compared to 2014, four of the seven received lower scores.

“The key areas that are important to customers, like on time performance, customer service, to what extent do you have access to officials within that railroad who are able to answer your questions to your satisfaction,” said Steenhoek. “That’s what this report card measures, these are the things most important and we just hope railroads continue to make improvements in all of those areas.”

The 6th annual Railroad Report Card ranked the Union Pacific Railroad the top performing railroad and BNSF was rated the most improved, increasing its overall score by 26 percent from the 2014 report card.

Shippers ranked the Canadian Pacific railroad last for the fifth year in a row.
