Iowa gets federal help for water quality

Iowa is getting a boost from the federal government to help improve water quality and nutrient management.

U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced a 10-year “watershed-based strategy” for nutrient management.

Vilsack says USDA will expand signature conservation programs, for up to 85,000 additional acres of environmentally sensitive land in Iowa.

Vilsack says the goal is to help the state replicate the USDA’s science based, Mississippi River Basin Initiative.
