Minnesota Corn Growers president mixed on RFS change

Noah Hultgren

The president of the Minnesota Corn Growers Association says he has mixed feelings about the Environmental Protection Agency’s finalized Renewable Volume Obligations (RVO’s).

Noah Hultgren of Raymond tells Brownfield he was pleased to see the numbers announced Monday were a little better than what the EPA proposed earlier this year.

“But overall I’m not pleased that it’s not following what the RFS intention was when it was enacted into law a few years ago.”

EPA’s final 2016 RVO number cuts the amount of ethanol blended into the nation’s fuel supply by 500 million gallons below the original Renewable Fuel Standard proposal.

Hultgren says even with the announcement, Minnesota Corn will continue to push for a stronger RFS.

“Hopefully we can keep talking to the EPA and who knows, maybe we can sway their minds a little bit.”

He says Minnesota is committed to renewable fuels with the installation of more than 120 flex-fuel pumps in the last two years, giving Minnesotans cleaner-burning choices at the pump.
