Four Candles Advent Wreath Idea

Make a four candles Advent wreath that will last until Christmas. With a simple faux wreath and small bottles to hold the candles you will have a stylish Advent wreath in no time.

Happy first Advent, everyone!   Here is this year’s four candles Advent wreath for you.

If you have followed along for some time, you might have expected me to announce my annual 12 Days of Christmas decorating series. After all, I have done it for several years. There was my Red & White Christmas decor, my rustic natural Christmas decorations, my crafty woody Christmas, and of course, my white Nordic Christmas house. And for the longest time, I was still expecting to do my series this year as well. I actually had a lot of projects planned in my head already. 

But then life happened, and things changed, and priorities shifted not only for me but also for my fellow 12-day-ers. And so in mutual agreement, we decided that we’d go with the flow and not force ourselves into something that might not be as fun anymore. 

So this year, you can expect a very laid-back, easygoing Christmas around these parts. I WILL decorate my house – of course -. I love Christmas decorating. But I am not going to stress over it. I’ll let it happen gradually and moderately, and I might not do a single craft in the process. Or I might… We’ll see, I’ll let myself be surprised along with you.

In other years around this time, I would have been in Christmas mode for weeks already. Frantically trying to prepare for the series. This year I have been totally relaxed about it, and I hadn’t even given much thought to Christmas at all. 

Until yesterday when it hit me, today is the first Advent! The Christmas season has officially started!

And I might break with traditions this year, but I couldn’t break with the very first one. And that is why I always start my Christmas decorating season with a four candles Advent wreath.

So I set out to work.

How to Make a Super Easy Four Candles Advent Wreath

I pulled this one together with what I had on hand. Which, in this case, meant a faux Christmas wreath from Ikea. I hadn’t planned on using it as a wreath. It is a bit of a skimpy cheap, looking one. I pulled it out of the discount corner at Ikea and basically bought it for the iron frame on the back (those are so expensive to buy), fully planning on dismantling it.

But I thought it could work for now. I stuffed some more faux greens in there to not make it look skimpy anymore but instead make it look full and elegant. Step 1 finished.

Step 2 was figuring out an easy way to attach the candles to this basic (plastic) wreath.

I tried out several things, and nothing worked. So I rummaged once more through my stash to see what I could use. When my eyes fell on this particularly ugly thing, I found thrifting one day:

I bought it for the bottles, of course. Thinking I could expand on my hanging bottles project one day.

In its current state, it was rather horrific: with those dried-out “decorations”  inside, the big blobs of glue holding it together, and the general dirt factor. But I am so glad I procrastinated on freeing up those bottles. Because as it turned out, the whole contraption just fit in perfectly inside my wreath.

I filled four bottles with sand, so I could safely nestle the candles inside. Added some paper stars from last year’s window sill display and called it a day.

I think this year’s four candles Advent wreath turned out pretty good, especially since I took the short and easy route in making it. Using this cheap, readymade wreath as my base and simply adding what I had on hand to turn it into an Advent wreath was the best way to go.

And considering it is all faux materials, she will last beautifully until Christmas too. No falling needles to clean up this year.

It is funny how the serendipity of things work because in a million years, I could not have come up with adding that lovely rusty element in there, but as things turned out, I think that ‘handle’ adds just the perfect touch.
