Early corn harvest results in Minnesota suggest better than average crop
An extension agronomist says initial results indicate Minnesota’s corn crop is better than average.
Jeff Coulter specializes in corn-based cropping systems and is hearing good things from the field.
“In terms of compared to the five year average, we’re probably looking at five percent higher yields, at least. A lot of fields that have been coming out have been good. A lot of stuff in the 190 to over 200 (bushel per acre) range, some even higher.”
USDA’s latest crop progress report has corn harvest statewide at nine percent complete, 10 days ahead of last year but eight days behind normal.
