DNA heifer test made more affordable

University of Missouri beef genetics specialist Jared Decker, Thompson Research Center, Spickard, Mo., Sept. 15, 2015A University of Missouri beef genetics specialist is working to get costs lower for tests that determine how beef cattle will perform.  DNA tests can determine the genetic potential of beef cattle.  Dr. Jared Decker’s work should make the tests more affordable.

Lowering the cost of the heifer DNA tests will allow greater selection pressure to be put on the female instead of depending on the selection of the right AI sire or herd bull to make genetic progress.
