Some yields have been surprising
Harvest is in full swing and southwest Indiana farmer Don Villwock says farmers have been surprised at yields. “After going through all the monsoons, I think we were really expecting the worst to happen,” he says. “We’ve been surprised at the yield – especially on the high ground.”
Villwock also farms in the river bottoms – and he says those areas aren’t yielding as well. “The yield monitor was zero for quite a few of those acres and we knew that was going to be the case,” he says.
He tells Brownfield soybean yields are about where he expected. “We have some close to average and some a little less than average,” he says.
Villwock says the half an inch of rain that fell earlier in the week was welcomed and was the first break they’ve had in harvest since they began.
