Farmers encouraged to host breakfast

Pleasant View Dairy

Breakfast on the Farm has attracted over 11,000 visitors to just four Michigan farms this summer and there’s still one event left.

This Saturday, Pleasant View Dairy in Hillsdale County will open their doors to provide a free breakfast and farm tour to the public. Third generation dairy farmer Bruce Lewis farms 2,700 acres with his wife and three children, and milks almost 700 cows. He tells Brownfield, Breakfast on the Farm helps the public learn firsthand about modern day agriculture.

“I just think it’s a great opportunity for Michigan agriculture to highlight to the general public what we are trying to do and achieve on our farms, in a wholesome safe manner for the public and be environmentally cognitive too.”

He says farmer volunteers and industry experts will be available to speak one-on-one with visitors. Lewis tells Brownfield, all farmers should think about hosting future events and volunteering on local planning committees.

“Really, really look at it, consider it.” He says, “We’ve actually assisted with other Breakfast on the Farms in our area, and it’s really a lot of fun and enjoyable to be involved with.”

Farms interested in hosting can learn more on the Breakfast on the Farm website.
