Harvest could come early
Despite seasonal challenges, Michigan’s corn progress is about a month ahead of last year’s average.
Kevin Thiel, Northern Michigan Account Manager for DuPont Pioneer, says some fields that were getting too dry received relief over the weekend thanks to storm systems that moved across the state.
“Having that rainfall, if you missed the severe storms between the hail and wind damage over the weekend, that will definitely help progress into grain fill”
He tells Brownfield if the crop gets more hot days and some rainfall, harvest should come early. For silage harvest, Thiel is confident farmers will be ahead of last year. He says farmers should continue to scout fields as the season progresses to make management decisions for 2016.
