Consumers Energy reminds farmers to prepare for severe weather before the next big storm hits.

Brad Rickert, storm restoration manager with Consumers Energy, says many farmers rely on electricity to operate and should have a generator on hand ahead of power outages. Rickert also advises having an emergency preparedness kit ready.

“A kit may include any first aid supplies, flashlights and batteries, fire extinguishers or even a camera that stamps date and time to document any damage that does happen.”

He tells Brownfield prior to weather events farmers can also clear debris from drainage ditches, check power line clearance, and review insurance policies to know how to respond to storm damage.

Rickert says power outages can be reported and tracked throughout restoration on their website.
