Michigan fairs Go Green in 2015

KathyMauer

The Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee is helping 25 fairs Go Green in 2015 with soy-based products. For the fifth year, the Green Fair Project has granted fairs up to 50 percent of the cost of soy industrial products to use on the fair grounds.

Kathy Maurer with the Soybean Checkoff says biodiesel is one of the most used products to power rides and equipment during fair week. She says soy building materials, inks, cleaners and other products are also featured.

“It’s very helpful because it can replace petroleum-based products with soy, which is biodegradable and more user friendly.”

More than 1.8 million visitors are expected to attend this year’s green fairs.
