Farm owner leaves legacy of discovery

Tim Siefert, Auburn, Illinois, July 28, 2015Tim Seifert manages the experiment farm at Auburn, Illinois, where Monsanto recently held a Roundup Ready Extend dealer training session.  The challenges that Seifert faced in the early days of the planting season came into clearer focus once he had the chance to see other fields.

“We are blessed,” Seifert told Brownfield Ag News, comparing his planting season delays to the unplanted fields he saw across the Mississippi River in Missouri.

Seifert’s family has been farming the land at Auburn since 1945, but the previous owner wanted to leave more than just a solid producing farm.  He directed that the farms be used to further knowledge and progress in agriculture.  But whereas the land where Seifert farms is intend for the purpose of discovery, he says there really isn’t so much difference in the mission of other farms.  “I think all farmers do research on their own,” said Seifert.
