Three Wisconsin poultry farms cleared to restock

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture (DATCP) has released the quarantines on the first three of nine commercial poultry producers affected by avian influenza this spring. One farm in Chippewa County, one in Barron County and one in Jefferson County are now free to restock and resume production.

The six remaining affected premises in the Badger State; two in Jefferson County and four in Barron County are in the final stages of testing required for release.  The backyard flock in Juneau County was released in June.

State Veterinarian Dr. Paul McGraw says while this is good news, there is a strong likelihood the virus will return this fall as wild birds migrate. He encourages all poultry owners to maintain good biosecurity, monitor their flocks and report any sickness or unusual bird deaths to DATCP.
