Lions' Lawson 'feeling real good' after injury wiped out rookie year

Allen Park — In addition to rookies, Lions quarterbacks, injured players and select young players reported for training camp on Tuesday.

Among the group was second-year cornerback Nevin Lawson, who said he feels 100-percent healthy after suffering a gruesome foot injury in Week 2 last year.

"I'm feeling real good," he said.

Lawson declined to discuss the team's medical evaluation of him, and if he's not fully healthy, the Lions could place him on the physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp.

Lawson also said he doesn't feel any pain in the foot that became disfigured during Week 2 last season when he took over for Bill Bentley in the slot after Bentley suffered a season-ending knee injury Week 1.

If Lawson is healthy, he'll compete for the nickel cornerback job with Josh Wilson, rookie Quandre Diggs and others.

"Everybody's (goal) is to eventually be a starter, you know what I'm saying?" Lawson said. "But at the end of the day, I'll do whatever it takes, whatever the team wants me to do."

Lawson has been in Florida working out recently, and even though he's still about 190 pounds, he said he's trimmed his body fat from 10 percent to 7 percent by adding muscle.
