1. Oakland Raiders: Hands down, the Black and Silver is the best. They’ve never had to fiddle around with throwbacks or alternate designs because they got it right the first time. The logo has stood the test of time and it works well for The Black Hole fan section.

2. San Francisco 49ers: The Niners’ burgundy and gold is one of the best combos in the league; even with the road whites, the colors pop. From John Brodie to Joe Montana to Colin Kaepernick, it’s been one of the winning looks in the NFL.

3. New Orleans Saints: Some teams only use black as an alternate color, but the Saints get to sport it for half of their games. The gold goes perfectly and the fleur-de-lis fits the city and the jersey well.

4. Chicago Bears: The dark blue home jerseys are one of the NFL’s classics and the striping accents it well. The orange isn’t overdone and complements perfectly. The logo isn’t overwhelming, but it works.

5. Pittsburgh Steelers: The Steelers would be higher if they didn’t trot out the unsightly bumblebee-throwback jerseys from time to time. Much like the Raiders, they haven’t changed much over the years, and for good reason.

6. Green Bay Packers: Another of the league’s classic looks hasn’t needed a makeover because of its simplicity and its excellence. The logo is simple and has stood the test of time. Those throwbacks, though, raise an eyebrow.

7. San Diego Chargers: The dark blue and gold are stark and beautiful together, a combo that other teams should emulate. The thunderbolt always has been cool and even the white jerseys are easy on the eyes. Bonus points for the retro powder blue jerseys.

8. Dallas Cowboys: The star on the side of the helmet is one of the most recognizable logos in sports. The white jerseys are clean and crisp and are much better than the blues.

9. Baltimore Ravens: The combination of black and gold and purple is one of the better designs, with the menacing raven as the logo. The all-black jerseys rank them higher, but the colors work well with all of the combos.

10. Buffalo Bills: The iconic logo has lasted through the years, from O.J. Simpson to Thurman Thomas to now. It’s a nice red-white-and-blue combo without being too busy on the eyes or being overdone.

11. St. Louis Rams: They’ve come a long way — from the 1970s-era yellow accent to the more appealing gold. It’s not as good as the Chargers’, but the makeover helped things. The logo isn’t great and needs to be updated.

12. New England Patriots: The red facemasks take away from the overall impact of an otherwise good jersey. The newer logo pops much more than the old-school patriot hiking the ball. With their success on the field, they’ve made it one of the most recognizable in the NFL.

13. Kansas City Chiefs: The red and yellow bring to mind a box of crayons. It’s a decent contrast, but the Chiefs have always been a uniform winner because of the simple, classic helmet logo.

14. Detroit Lions: The Honolulu Blue and Silver isn’t an NFL favorite, but a unique color scheme that works well together. Although the home jerseys are crisp, the road whites are bland and the lion logo needs another overhaul. The Lions get bonus points for the rarely-used throwbacks, which are one of the league’s best.

15. Denver Broncos: It’s an in-your-face blue and orange, but it somehow works. The horse logo is a nice upgrade over the previous version and the blue is striking but the orange is somewhat distracting.

16. Seattle Seahawks: Lots of blue, lots of electric green and plenty of patterns. It works for some, but it gets to be a bit much. It’s a West Coast style, which doesn’t necessarily mean it’s everyone’s favorite.

17. Philadelphia Eagles: Green jerseys don’t do well without a nice accent color and the Eagles’ silver is OK. Their helmets are very good, using the wings on both sides. The darker green stands out and the eagle on the sleeves is outstanding.

18. Atlanta Falcons: They flew away from the classic red helmets to the newer black ones with the updated logo years ago, but the jerseys are just too busy with the black and white accents.

19. Carolina Panthers: It’s hard to go wrong with a black jersey, but the Panthers figured out a way, with the electric blue and silver. It’s another case of doing too much instead of keeping it simple.

20. Arizona Cardinals: What is that bird logo about? That doesn’t strike fear into anyone’s heart, and the all-burgundy look isn’t great. There are just too many stripes and slashes and effects.

21. New York Giants: It’s a simple blue and white, but the red numbers on the white jerseys just take away from the overall effect. The Giants should be commended, however, for going back to their roots with the "ny" logo on the helmet.

22. Minnesota Vikings: Their purple is an absolute — either fans immediately like it or they don’t. The gold accent sort of works, but it doesn’t have the same pop with the complementary black like the Ravens.

23. New York Jets: The team was wise to take the jet logo off the helmet years ago, but these jerseys aren’t appreciated much by fans outside of New York. The retro look is OK, but they need an accent color somewhere.

24. Miami Dolphins: Another in the absolute like-or-dislike category, the Dolphins do more with less. Their all-white combination is understated — and therefore the best of their uniforms. The new logo (no helmet on the dolphin) removed a classic feature.

25. Houston Texans: Red, white and blue is a good look, but with the longhorn motif, it just seems very convoluted. Of the newer jerseys in the past decades, theirs is somewhere in the middle.

26. Indianapolis Colts: They’re the Penn State of the NFL — bland but classic. The logo, much like the jersey, doesn’t arouse much passion, but the fans seem to stick behind it.

27. Washington: Although the burgundy and yellow work well together, the logo is, well … not so good. There are so many bands and stripes and things on the socks, and the white jerseys just aren’t a good look.

28. Cleveland Browns: Putting brown and orange together isn’t a good idea from the start, but the Browns kept things simple without making the combination worse. The helmets could use something but there’s a risk of making things unbearable.

29. Tennessee Titans: The logo is one of the worst in the league and the light blue-on-dark blue look is, well, undesirable. The designer simply tried too hard and the result was a jersey that looks cartoonish.

30. Cincinnati Bengals: The color combination is good in theory, but the helmets simply are hideous. There’s tiger-striping on the pants, which compounds the problems. They need an extreme makeover: NFL edition.

31. Jacksonville Jaguars: The color scheme may work in Florida, but for the rest of the world, it’s worth an eye-gouging. The Jags’ two-tone helmets leave a lot to be desired and the pants don’t add much.

32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: It’s just too much bad — all going on at the same time. Red. Orange. Pewter. Just imagine that a consultant somewhere was paid to come up with that combination. It’s better than the old-school Creamsicle version, but not by much.
