I’m not a big fruit eating person if it’s in its natural state, like a whole banana, whole orange, whole apple, etc. (Unless, of course, I’m at a party. And then I’ll eat fruit right off the tray, without even blinking. Who knows why.)

But I absolutely love fruit in and on things. And there are certain fruits I cannot wait for when they come into season every year. Peaches? Heck ya! Pineapple? Yes, please. And cherries. Love love love cherries.

So, um, Trevor turned 5…a month ago. Details schmetails, right?! His birthday theme was a no-brainer this year. I asked what he wanted (knowing the answer), and he immediately said Legos. Done.

One thing I did differently this year, though – we held it at the pizza place near our house. After all these years of hosting parties for the kids at home, I’ve realized it isn’t any cheaper. And certainly not easier. I loved not having to clean the house before AND after!

Anyway, unlike his Word World birthday party last year, and not being able to find any resources, hosting a LEGO theme is the complete opposite. Tons of information out there. So I took what I liked and away I went!

Say what you will about crazy Californians, you just can’t beat the weather. Some people embrace snow and winter sports, but that was never for me. I’m a much happier person since moving back four years ago – I have the windows open in March, adorn my flip-flops in April, and start my garden long before Memorial Day weekend.

And we can enjoy picnics sooner. Not a fake carpet picnic, looking longingly out the window at bare trees. No. A real picnic! With blissful temperatures, a breeze, on a blanket, outside, under full trees.

And picnic food.

This is one of the original recipes I posted here on the blog, back in February of 2009. It was served at my friend Heather’s baby shower and I immediately asked for the recipe. Turned out it was so easy that it became my go to brunch dessert for years. But along came so many other recipes to try, it was forgotten about.
