Getting a new dog– whether it’s a brand new puppy or an older dog in need of a new home– is an extremely exciting adventure; however, it can also be somewhat stressful, as you have to make sure you are prepared to take care of this new addition to your family. Regardless of your new pet’s age, a critical aspect of welcoming him or her to your home will likely be teaching him or her a few basic dog commands.

Making sure that your dog understand certain basic commands will not only help you keep the dog safe and well-behaved, but will also likely help you preserve your sanity, especially if your new dog is a puppy. Three of the most basic commands that you should consider teaching your new dog include:

  • Sit
  • Stay
  • Come

Get Ready for Salsa Fest Atlanta!

There are plenty of festivals in Atlanta this summer to look forward to that include music, food, and fun.  Get ready for some dancing on June 3rd at Atlantic Station for the 2nd Annual Salsa Fest Atlanta.

Sponsored by the Atlanta Braves, 89.3 WRFG, Jarritos, Diva 1500AM, Atlanta Hawks, HISC, Vonage, McDonald’s, Atlanta Silverbacks, Dancing4Fun, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Salsa Fest is a great time for everyone from children to adults.

This daylong festival will feature live salsa music, dance competitions, and exhibitions.  Whether you’re a skilled salsa dancer or never danced in your life, Salsa Fest is the perfect way to spend a day of summer outdoor fun.  All are welcome and encouraged to come and partake in the dancing.

No festival is complete without food, and Salsa Fest will have plenty of it.  You’ll find an array of free samples, authentic Latin cuisine, and other international foods to give you the energy to continue dancing.

Mary Mac’s Tea Room was established in Atlanta back in 1945 and has been a wonderful staple for classic Southern American cuisine. the atmosphere is very relaxed and inviting, making you feel as though you’re right at home. You can come in during brunch, lunch time or dinner time and enjoy a delicious gourmet tea and tasty meals such as fried chicken, chicken liver, meatloaf with tomato sauce, chopped sirloin steak, pork barbecue with Brunswick stew, roasted pork, patty melts, hamburgers,and much more.

Watch the Braves at Local Sports Bars

The Atlanta Braves season is here and the team is looking poised to get plenty of games in the win column this year.  Get out to some great local sports bars in Atlanta to catch B.J. and Justin Upton, Jason Heyward, and Dan Uggla in action this season.

Be Prepared for Summer in Atlanta!

There’s no heat like summer, and there’s no summer like summer in Georgia. But can you take the heat? Here are a few summer heat safety tips to make sure the answer’s a resounding ‘yes’.

  • Stay hydrated! Dehydration creeps up when you’re least expecting it. When temperatures are above 90 degrees, studies show that you should drink at least a gallon of water per day.
  • Dress in lightweight clothes, and when you sleep, make sure you’re using breathable blankets so you don’t overheat.
  • Avoid hot, enclosed spaces, like small rooms or cars without air conditioning. And definitely make sure your children and/or pets do the same.
  • Set up a fan, but don’t put it in front of a window! This is a common mistake–oftentimes, it does little more than suck hot air into the room. Instead, try and point it through the room and out the window.
  • If you become nauseous or experience sudden headaches or weakness, seek medical attention!

So be sure you’re safe this summer in your home at Uptown Square!

If you want to keep your floors, furniture, and clothing looking great, you need to take action against stains and know how to react when spills happen. Use these stain removal tips at your apartment here at our Uptown Square community to keep your home spotlessly clean.

  • Soda stains- Parties and get-togethers are prime opportunities for soda to spill and stain your furniture and floors. A mixture of liquid laundry detergent and water applied quickly can help prevent a soda stain from setting in.
  • Red wine- According to Listverse, small red wine spills can be dabbed up effectively by blotting the wet spill with a cloth that has been dampened with white wine. If the spill is large, try pouring salt on it.
  • Natural stain removers and cleaners- If you wish to avoid applying chemical-laden cleaners, salt, baking soda, and lemon juice are three natural substances that can be effective at preventing and removing stains.

In stain prevention, vigilance is key. The faster you begin cleaning up, the less likely it will be that a stain will develop.

At Uptown Square, we like to encourage residents to develop a healthy life style, and it is for this reason that will provide a variety of fitness amenities. The yoga zone at our fitness center provides you with a large versatile space where you can have the freedom to practice and take advantage of any imaginable position or exercise technique. The fitness center and all of its features are available to Uptown Square residents 24 hours a day, so you can enjoy the benefits of this healthy and relaxing activity whenever you want.

Take a Tour of Sweetwater Brewery

Ever wonder how beer is brewed? You can find out by taking a tour of Sweetwater Brewery, which is located less than 10 minutes away from our community at Uptown Square.

Sweetwater Brewery has been producing a selection of high quality beers in Atlanta since 1997. Some of the beers that they currently offer are Exodus Porter, Georgia Brown, Happy Ending, and Waterkeeper Hefeweizen. Brewery tours are offered every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and every Saturday between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Tours are great outings for you and a group of friends, and they always include tastings so that you can determine your favorite Sweetwater beer. A designated driver is recommended! The brewery is located at 195 Ottley Drive.

If you’re always on the lookout for new restaurants to try near our Uptown Square community, you should consider having a meal at Colonnade Restaurant located on Cheshire Bridge Road in Atlanta.

Offering Southern standards such as fried chicken and southern fried pork chop, the Colonnade Restaurant has become one of the most beloved restaurants in Atlanta since its original opening in 1927. Along with a menu that features a variety of hearty entrees to choose from, the Colonnade features a full bar and offers to-go ordering.

The Colonnade is open weeknights for dinner starting at 5 p.m., and on the weekend the restaurant is open for lunch as well. The Colonnade’s menu offers some vegetarian options and includes some dessert options to finish off a good meal.
