Check Out Fireworks at Lenox Square Mall This 4th of July

Now that it’s summer, the 4^th of July holiday is right around the corner. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy the 4^th of July fireworks in Atlanta near our Uptown Square apartment community, we recommend you check out the fireworks show that will be held at Lenox Square Mall.

The Lenox Square 4^th of July festivities will be held for its 54^th year, and it continues to be one of the most popular 4^th of July events in the Atlanta area. Like every year, 4^th of July events will kick off with the world’s largest 10k race known as the Peachtree Road Race. A number of fun activities will be held before the brilliant firework display will light up the sky.

Beginning at 10 am, the event will be presented by The Atlantan and will include a huge number of local food concessions, some amazing live musical entertainment and an inaugural talent search called “Atlanta’s Next Legend”. The winner of the talent search will perform in front of the crowd! Fireworks will be set off in the evening, and the entire event will end at 10 pm.

With all of the summer living tips, car care should be at the top of your list. Here are three tips that will help prevent those long, lazy days of summer from turning your car into an oven.

1. Park your car in the shade as much as possible. Your car is designed to keep in heat and keep out the elements. A sun-baked car’s temperature can easily and quickly reach temperatures of 200 degrees. A safety reminder, watch the belt buckles to avoid burns.

2. Use a sun shade in your car. They cover the front windshield to keep out harmful rays as well as lower the temperature in your car. Sun shades also help the air conditioning to work faster which means you save some gas money too.

3. Invest in some window shades. These window shades can be purchased from stores selling baby items. They are easily removable so that they can be attached to any window where your baby is seated. Window shades are not just for babies, they can be used for all car windows to reduce rays and heat in the car.

5 Things Not to Put Down Your Garbage Disposal

We all know about the obvious things you should never put down your garbage disposal - knives, forks, spoons and your fingers, etc. But there are many common vegetables and food scraps that will damage your disposal motor and blades. Your Uptown Square Apartments garbage disposal is not indestructible.

The following should NOT be fed to your disposal:

Stringy Vegetables – Vegetables like celery, lettuce and potato peels should be kept away from the disposal because stringy or starchy vegetables can get entangled in the blade.
Egg Shells – Even though you enjoy the satisfying sound of egg shells crunching in the disposal – don’t! The thin membrane coating the inside of the shell can easily get wrapped around the blade mechanism.
Pasta and Rice – You know how they expand when you add water? Pasta and rice will clog both your drain and your trap.
Coffee Grounds – Although they appear to be perfect fodder for your disposal, coffee grounds will clog up the trap, and you should toss them in the trash or compost them.

Fruit Pits and Seeds – Stone fruit pits like peaches, cherries and mangoes will wreak havoc with your disposal.
