Several months ago I saw a post on Pinterest on How to Get Grease Stains Out of Clothing. 

Having several pieces of clothing that I thought I would have to trash because of grease stains that didn’t come out in the wash and had been dried,  I figured I would give it a shot.

The secret ingredient mentioned in the Pin was Dawn Platinum Foam.  So I picked some up on a visit to the grocery store with a coupon.  The cost for the jar was around $3.50.

To try out the Pinterest tip, I pulled out a sweater I was going to toss due to a couple grease stains.  I pumped foam onto the offensive spots on the sweater, rubbed it in with my fingers and washed it.  I then let it air dry.  Once it dried, I checked it and was disappointed.  The Stain was still there.  Well that’s a PInterest tip that didn’t work, or so I thought.

Several weeks passed and I had pizza land on my pants.  Talk about a big grease stain.  I figured I would try the Dawn again since this article of clothing hadn’t gone through the wash.    I also grabbed the sweater that I still hadn’t thrown away, and figured I would try it again.

So I pumped on the Dawn on the sweater and jeans and barely rubbed it in.  This time though the items didn’t go right in though because the washer was already running.  Since the day got busy, it was actually about 6 hours later when I placed the items in the machine.  Guess What!

More of the stain disappeared, but not all of it.  So I repeated the process, including the waiting time, one more time several days later and the stain is now gone!!

So with just Dawn Platinum, some time, a couple wash loads and no elbow grease the clothes were saved and the stains are gone.

In addition to grease, I recently tried the trick on an unknown stain.  I had picked up a Guess Dress for my little one from Schoola for only $2.  When I ordered it, the warning was slight wear on the skirt, but it actually was a big reddish brown stain of I don’t know what.  I also knew it had been washed and probably dried without the stain being removed.

After two washes with pretreatments (including wait time) of Dawn Platinum, the stain was gone.  Oh and by the way. right now you can still get Free Shipping from Schoola meaning $15 in clothes free.  Maybe the item you pick will have a slight stain.  Give Dawn Platinum a chance and it can make for a great Deal.  For me, I think a Guess Dress for $2 and having to wash it several times is well worth it.

This week’s trip to Giant Eagle proves it pays to print a coupon for items you like even if there isn’t a sale at the time.  There are actually two items that proved this – Special K Cereal and International Delight.

Neither of these items were listed in the coupon matchups because the coupons don’t show in the coupon database because they are no longer available to print.  I had printed them quite a while ago and while preparing for the trip, saw them in my coupon drawer and grabbed them.  In the case of the cereal it made each box just 99 cents.

I love that my net cost was lower than my store savings or coupon savings.  That means my savings percentage was 70%!  I got $115 worth of items for just $35.  That even includes hamburger.

• 1 Nature Valley Protein – 49 cents with same deal I used last week because the Checkout 51 offer had reset
• 1 Naked Protein Drink – These are another new Unadvertised Deal I found at $2.50 each and then I submitted for $1 back from Ibotta
• 1 Quaker Select Starts Instant Oatmeal 49 cents with this Unadvertised and Ibotta Cash back deal
• 1 Quaker Steel Cut Oats 49 cents with this Unadvertised and Ibotta Cash back deal
• 1 Klondike Bars – On sale for 3.33 and there was a 60 cents blinkie coupon by them.  It did not double, so I paid $2.73.  Bit more than I like to pay, but my husband has been requesting these.
• 5 Special K Brownies – 49 cents each and one was better than free thanks to a $.75/1 Ibotta eOffer
• 6  Special K Cereal – 99 cents each thanks to $.50/1 Special K Cereal I had previously printed and was no longer available
• Proctor and Gamble $5 instant Savings items
  2 Old Spice Body Wash $1 each
  1 Pantene Mousse $0.33
  2 Febreze – Free

That was my trip.  I might go again this week depending on what new printable coupons come out tomorrow.  How was your trip?
