Dear Mr Ego,

I want to start off this letter by admitting that you are the greatest, with your talent for talking there is absolutely nothing that you couldn’t possibly do. Your use of words, your slick charisma, the way that you so effortlessly connect with people is truly a sight to behold. You are immediately impressive.

Unfortunately, you are like a flashy credit sequence before a very crappy movie, you take the credit on the front end but there is very little substance in the story that follows. Sometimes, I wonder whether all your big talking is simply a form of overcompensation, as you attempt to hide a dirty little secret… your inadequacy.

Mr. Ego, something tells me that you are addicted to the sound of your own platitudes and this sage letter will most likely fall on very deaf ears. Mr Ego, you are a good talker but you are so enamored with yourself that you have lost the ability to listen.

Often only the imagination can provide us with a satisfactory solution.

You need to start creating some additional options; take a pen and begin writing down some possible solutions to your problem. Go a little crazy, write down the worst possible way to solve your current predicament; when we take our problems too seriously they become impossible to solve.

There are never only two solutions to any problem, don’t limit the power of your imagination anymore.

I admit that I’ve been very emotional this week.

Guess what?

I write better when I am emotional.

Creative people cannot be afraid of emotion; the good stuff leaks out when your soul cracks open. Without being broken the artist is forced to create from the outside in, projecting a cerebral idea and then trying to attach feeling; it’s painstakingly slow and often unproductive way of working.

We are all artists when it comes down to it; people wanting to find meaning, receiving, expressing and giving to others with the work of our lives.

What’s the point otherwise, if you aren’t emotional about something then it is probably not worth doing.

Religion that makes a man inhuman deserves to burnt at 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

People often think of religion as something that happens inside a church; it’s not, religion happens inside a soul.

I’m not talking faith here, I talking about religious practices, that idea that simply by doing good things, by following a set of steps or by pretending to be better, one soul can ascend above another.

Horseshit.

This type of religion is like a Berlin wall around a person’s soul, you think that it is keeping you safe from an immoral outside world BUT instead it’s keeping you sanitized, weak and separated from others, it’s a prison not made by any kind of God.

Religion like this is a form of ego that often hides the deeper evils of racism, capitalism, patriotism, sectarianism or most commonly simple superiorism

Truth faith hides no flaws, it doesn’t need too because it is bounded and immersed in grace, it connects you to others by crossing the fearful divide that separates us all

Naked, I stand before you.

Slowly I pull off every garment that would cover my tarnished flesh, with my hands shaking and uncertainty tattooed across the blue in my eyes I tremble before you my dear blog reader.

Nakedness is not at all about removing your clothes, it’s about removing that thick layer of deceit that carries with it an air of decency, a sense of propriety, or an exaggerated projection of one’s own togetherness.

I have been severely depressed lately AND it has not been pretty; it is never pleasant to take off the mask and to look in the mirror for the very first time. It’s difficult to be naked when you’re so used to be clothed.

Vulnerability, intimacy, genuine friendship and true artistry require that we do not hide our flaws, for to love only part of a person is to NOT really love them at all.

I cannot hide any longer my own sense of fragility, not because I want you to see me naked, but because I want you to view me whole.
