Judith E. Bohne, 70, of Three Oaks, passed away on Friday morning June 14, 2013 at Royalton Manor in St. Joseph.

Judy was born on April 9, 1943 in Michigan City, Indiana to Russell and Florence (Gable) James. For many years, Judy attended the United Methodist Church in New Buffalo and Lakeside. On July 16, 1960, She married Richard Bohne and together they enjoyed 42 years of marriage. She retired after 25 years from Independent Steel and also worked at Three Oaks Pharmacy for many years. Judy had a spice for life, she loved collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, gardening, going out to eat, dancing and anything to do with the beach. One of her greatest joys in life was being a grandma and she loved her family endlessly. For many years she enjoyed visiting home bound people and loved to bring joy to the lives of others.

Judith is loved and survived by her daughter, Roxanne Bohne-Rambo, her siblings; Barbara Bolton, Sharon Motycka, Richard James, Terry James, Raymond James, Gordon James and a granddaughter, Alexa Rambo. She is preceded in death by her parents, a son; Richard Bohne, her sisters; JoAnne Motycka, Shirley Schroeder, her brother; Larry James and her companion, Timothy Glossinger.

Funeral services for Judy will be Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Pobocik Funeral Home, Three Oaks, with Garry Lange as Celebrant. Visitation will be two hours before the service from 11am -1pm. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery. In Lieu of Flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The American Cancer Society or Hospice at Home, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Dorothy R. Dillard, 93, passed away Friday morning, June 7, 2013 in Buchanan, Michigan. She lived in Three Oaks, Michigan for 27 years before moving to Buchanan Meadows in 2012.

Dorothy was born February 27, 1920 in Buchanan to Robert and Ruth (Swank) Sheeley. She grew up in Galien and graduated from Galien High School. When Dorothy was only 20 years old, she moved to the Bay Area in Northern California where she worked, married Kenneth D. Sechler, and raised her family. During her career she owned a business, was a real estate investor, and was also employed at State Farm Insurance Company. In retirement, Dorothy moved to Three Oaks to be closer to her family. She was a good cook and enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, and craft projects. Dorothy and her husband, Bob Dillard donated land to their community which became known as Dillard Park in Three Oaks. Dorothy and Bob enjoyed antiques and operated the Heartworks Antique Store in Three Oaks until 2006.

She is survived by her son Curtis D. Sechler and his wife Joyce of Lake Forest, IL ; grandchildren Michelle Duncan and Kenneth D. Sechler III; six great grandchildren Brittainy, Courtney, Bethany, Curtis, Jeremy and Kevin; great great grandchild, Lliam; daughter-in-law, Wilma Sechler of Frederick, MD and sister Lois Kool of St. Petersburg, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, son Kenneth D. Sechler Jr., sisters Carmen Anderson, Rosalie Zavor and Shirley DeFreez and brothers, Rex Sheeley, Harold Sheeley, and Zane Sheeley.

Cremation will take place with interment of her ashes at Galien Cemetery. There will be a memorial gathering at a later date.

Robert Iwanowski, 63, of Three Oaks, Michigan died of an apparent heart attack on Thursday, May 30, 2013.

Bob was born June 10, 1949 in Chicago to John and Helen (Pawlowski) Iwanowski. After graduating high school he attended Oakland University. He married Janice Allen on August 30, 1975 in Three Oaks. Bob was a technician at the Douglas Film Labs in Chicago and also cared for the Marion O. Kane Properties of Chicago. He enjoyed watching football, hockey, and other sports on TV, drinking his coffee, reading, and watching old movies. He loved nature and animals, especially dogs. Bob could always come up with a quip and a loving tease.

Survivors include his wife Janice, many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Georgegeen Patricia and brother George Patrick.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, June 3, 2013 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Three Oaks with the Reverend Father Donald Suberlak, CR as celebrant. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Three Oaks. Visitation will be held 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 pm on Sunday at Pobocik Funeral Home, Three Oaks.

Mary Jane Barber, 71, of Winamac, Indiana and formerly of New Buffalo, Michigan died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne.

Mary Jane was born August 10, 1941 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa to Charles and Lucille (Werling) Brown. After graduating from high school in Renwick, Iowa, she attended Beauty School. On May 1, 1961 Mary Jane married Ralph Barber in Chamberlain, South Dakota, they spent 52 wonderful years together. She lived in New Buffalo for 35 years and owned Mary’s Beauty Box, cutting and styling hair. She worked at New Buffalo Township for many years. Mary Jane loved to read, raise orchids, and work in her flower gardens. She was a devoted fan at her son’s sports games and enjoyed the many camping trips with her family. Mary Jane liked people, and was always there for people in need.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph; sons, Mark (Emily) Barber of Three Oaks, Michigan and Scott Barber of Weirsdale, Florida; grandchildren, David, Jessica, Scotty, Kaley and Sydney and great grandchildren, Tyler, Aleah, and Aubrianna, sister Linda McCormak, Scottsdale, Arizona and brother, Llewellyn Brown of Algona, Iowa.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 am Eastern Time on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Pobocik Funeral Home in Three Oaks, Michigan with Mr. Garry Lange as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Swan Lake Memorial Garden in Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.

Stephen Lewis, 34, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana died Friday, May 17, 2013 from injuries sustained in a work related accident.

Steve was born June 21, 1978 in Michigan City, Indiana to Timothy and Maria (Povlock) Lewis. He graduated from New Prairie High School in 1997. Steve had a strong work ethic, at home and at H & G Plumbing. He was a member of the Laborers Union Local # 645. Steve married Jodi Craig on December 23, 2005 in LaPorte, Indiana. He was a true outdoors man, enjoying dirt biking, camping, tandem biking, golf cart rides, mushroom hunting, grilling, fishing, and spending time with friends and family around the bonfire. Steve was hilarious and witty, always finding a way to make people laugh. He liked working on his corvette, and was creative, artistic and innovative. Steve loved his friends and family, especially his wife and daughters

Survivors include his wife, Jodi; children, Alexis, Mallory and Tori; mother, Maria Lewis of Rolling Prairie; sister Monica Lewis of Heston, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and friends. His father, Tim, preceded him in death April 11, 2012.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 12:00 pm ET (11:00 pm CT) on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Pobocik Funeral Home, Three Oaks, Michigan. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 pm ET (4:00 – 7:00 pm CT) on Tuesday at the funeral home.

William Rohder, 90, of Lakeside, Michigan died Saturday, May 18, 2013.

Bill was born in Michigan City, Indiana on December 26, 1922 to William and Alvina Rohder. He was a graduate of Elston High School, now known as Rogers High School, in Michigan City. He earned his Bachelor Degree from Tri State University which in 2008 changed its name to Trine University. Bill served his country in the US Air Force during WWII and retired from Northern Indiana Public Service Company.

Bill is survived by his wife, Lois (nee Jenks) Rohder, children Tom of Lakeside, Tim of Hillsborough, North Carolina and Teresa Peterson of Sawyer, Michigan.

Cremation has taken place and no services will be held.

David J. Becker, 52, of Three Oaks, Michigan died Tuesday morning, May 14, 2013 in Chicago after a hard fought battle with cancer.

David was born September 22, 1960, the only son and middle child of Julian and Betty (Schwark) Becker. He graduated from River Valley High School in 1978. Some called him “Cowboy” for his love of ponies, horses, goats, and for his rugged lifestyle. David was competitive, playing darts, cards, softball, paintball, horseshoes, and bag toss. He coached Little League and umpired. David enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed cooking and hosted the family reunion and hog roast. He could cut a rug when dancing. David, having the perfect voice and personality for it, served as Auctioneer for many charitable causes. He was a farm property manager and cared for the Higgenbottom children. He was a Jack-of-all-trades, doing whatever it took to make a buck. David was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 204.

Survivors include his son Darrell Becker (Rebecca Hotwagner), parents Julian and Betty; sisters, Brenda (Robert) Zeiger and Karen Cummings (Terry James) all of Three Oaks, nephew Brandon (Candice) Cummings, close friend and confidant, Debbie Staples, step daughter Dana Snelling of New Buffalo and step grandchild Jarek; and so many friends and relatives.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Pobocik Funeral Home in Three Oaks with Mr. Garry Lange as celebrant. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home.

Dennis G. Harper, 54, of Michigan City, Indiana died Monday, April 22, 2013 after suffering a heart attack at his home.

Dennis was born February 10, 1959 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Donald G. and Ann Bell (Busby) Harper. He graduated from River Valley High School in 1977 and worked at Independent Steel in New Buffalo, Michigan. Dennis enjoyed tinkering on cars, listening to music, and playing basketball. He had a large movie collection that he kept arranged meticulously. Dennis was interested in Astrology and worked out every day at his home.

Survivors include his sons, Dennis Harper Jr of Taos, New Mexico and Brandon Harper of Niles, Michigan; granddaughter, Gwyneth Annabelle Harper; brothers, Donald of Edwardsburg, John and Jeffery (Nancy) of Flint, Michigan, Joseph of Michigan City, and sister, Kim Harper of Bridgman.

Cremation will take place.  Family and friends will gather at Calvary Tabernacle at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2013 with the Memorial  Service beginning at 3:00 pm at the church.

Ona Zina Morkunas, 76, of Three Oaks, Michigan died peacefully, Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at her home with Chow Chow, her cat, keeping her company.

Zina was born October 20, 1936 to Juozas and Ona (Dvilinskaite) Laskauskas in Lithuania. She lived in Brasil before emigrating to the United States. She was an artist and earned her degree at Kent State Universty. Zina married Mykolas Morkunas and together they worked at the family’s printing business in Chicago. She was a unique and caring woman. Zina would buy children’s books and toys, and with the help of her friend, mailed them to poor children in Lithuania. She loved animals, once adopting a raccoon. Zina also kept the neighborhood squirrels well fed with corn. She will be missed by her friends and the animals she cared for so lovingly.

Zina was preceded in death by her husband, and in 2005 by her son, Michael “Bear” Morkunas.

Cremation has taken place. Interment will take place at Posey Chapel Cemetery in Indiana. Pobocik Funeral Home in Three Oaks in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis J McNicol

Feb 10, 1930 – Jan 26, 2013

Phyllis passed away Jan 26, 2013 in Sebring, FL, where she resided 8 months of the year. The other 4 months of the year she stayed in Michigan near her children.

On Feb 10, 1930 she was born to Guy and Esther Miller in Adrian, MI. She lived in Adrian through school then continued her education in Elkhart, IN where she met her first husband and father of her children, Edgar Caid, who preceded her in death in 2000. In November 1992 she married an old school sweetheart, Mark “Mac” McNicol, who preceded her in death in 2007.

Phyllis is survived by her six children: Matthew (Nancy) Caid, Three Oaks MI, Tim Caid, Lovells MI, Sherry (Dick) Best, Buchanan MI, Marge Caid, Constantine MI, Peggy Wells, St Josepeh MI and Brad Caid, Sebring FL. She is also survived by her step-children: Rochelle McNicol, Sarasota FL, Penny (Barry) Teller, Adrian MI, Mark (Kathy) McNicol, Adrian MI and Tim McNicol of Adrian MI. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Surviving are also a host of nieces and nephews.

She was one of four children born to Guy and Esther, in which her sister Lois Mills of Adrian MI survives. Preceding her in death were two brothers, Bud & Bob Miller, both of Adrian MI.

Phyllis was an avid golfer, in which she was a proud member of the “hole in one” club. Nobody could get anything over her at the card table either, whether it be bridge, pinnacle, hand n foot or rummy. She loved to play games but her favorite ones were the Fish and Monopoly machines at the casinos. Somehow she always seemed to come out a winner.

Phyllis had an infectious smile that lit up any room she entered. That smile brought her the Homecoming Queen Crown in high school. She was an accomplished swimmer spending the majority of her summer vacations at Devils Lake near Adrian. She was a friend of all who knew her and will be deeply missed.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, April 26th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Pobocik Funeral Home in Three Oaks, Michigan. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 1:00 pm at Anderson Funeral Home in Adrian, MI with visitation one hour prior to the service .
