Have you ever wanted to see what zoo animals do at night? Well, your opportunity to explore the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens after dark is here! Mark your calendar for June 15, 2013, from 7:00pm until 11:00pm, and get your tickets early. On that night, you can attend Night Hike at the Zoo and cavort with the nocturnal creatures in their element.

Tickets must be purchased no later than May 31, 2013. Admission is $20 for adult non-pass holders, $15 for adult pass-holders, $15 for children, (ages 5-12), non-pass holders and $10 for children pass-holders. Children must be over the age of 5 to attend.

You’ll be guided through the zoo by flashlight on this tour. Learn about the habits of mammals, birds and other creatures that come alive when darkness falls.

The Central Florida Zoo also offers daytime programs like the Raptor Encounter and Feline Demonstration. Their residents include a Clouded Leopard, Zebu, Gila Monster and a Giant Hairy Desert Scorpion.

Flags fly high during the Memorial Day Parade.

Come together to honor America’s military veterans at the Sanford Memorial Day Parade 2013 on Monday, May 27th.

The parade will commence at 10:00 am on Monday, and will begin at 1st Street and Sanford Avenue in downtown Sanford. After heading through historic downtown, it will continue until Park Avenue, where it will turn north and continue until it reaches Veterans Memorial Park on the Riverwalk. The parade will conclude at the park before the Memorial Day commemoration ceremony. Following the ceremony there will be a Memorial Day luncheon.

Special guests for the parade and the ceremony following will be members of the Tuskegee Airmen and USS Arizona and Pearl Harbor survivor Clint Westbrook. The parade and ceremony following are both free and open to the public.

Shop, eat, and be merry at the Festival of the Arts.

Transcend the artistic process and watch art come to life before your eyes at the St. Johns River Festival of the Arts in Sanford, FL, this spring on Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5.

This festival truly sets itself apart in the world of art festivals by giving you the chance to observe the creative process from start to finish. Artists will be on hand to answer questions, provide insight and, above all, let you get involved. As you walk the festival route, you will also be treated to delicious food and beverage and roaming minstrels providing live entertainment.

Over 100 artists will be on hand for this year’s festival. The festival will take place in historic downtown Sanford, FL, and will run from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm on Saturday, and Sunday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Grab a quick bite at the Sanford Food Truck Bazaar.

Soon the food trucks of Orlando will be descending on the town of Sanford for the monthly Food Truck Bazaar, bringing communities and good food together one town at a time.

This is the nation’s only traveling food truck event and the Sanford Food Truck Bazaar happens the first Saturday of every month. The best of Orlando’s Food Truck scene make the trek to surrounding communities to serve up great eats. Sanford’s next Food Truck Bazaar event will be Saturday, May 4th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm in downtown Sanford near the intersection of Palmetto Avenue and Seminole Boulevard in the courthouse parking lot.

Those coming down for the event should come prepared. There will be no tables or chairs provided, so those in attendance are encouraged to bring their own. There will be long lines, especially for the most popular trucks, and some trucks will run out of food. Most will take credit cards, but come prepared for some cash-only trucks as well.
