And that applies to so many things…including your success.

There comes a time when you have to move from creating your vision and plans to getting things done.

Yes, that means…getting off your posterior and getting busy.

Stop thinking of all the reasons why you can’t.

How can I serve you?

For example…

• In ice hockey, the goalie is only responsible to make the first save.  Once he does that, it’s up to his defensemen to clear the puck out of harm’s way.
• Verizon Wireless has more subscribers than any of carrier in the United States.
• Apple will always occupy one of the top two spots of market share in the United States.  I switched to Apple in November 2012 and have never regretted it.  Sorry, Microsoft, but your product will never be as good as Apple.  (Okay, maybe this is more of an opinion than fact…but it’s still true.)
• You will never be able to trust Facebook (or any other social media site for that matter).
• You can’t be whatever you want to be.  I’d love to play for the National Hockey League, but that’s not going to happen at my age.
• People who have vision and goals go farther than those that do not.
• Your success is up to you.  No one else.  Not your employer.  Not your spouse.  Not your parents.

What other things are just TRUE?

The operative word being try.

As I’ve written before, I started this website and blog on January 21, 2011.  The same time I created most of my social media accounts.  Full disclosure:  that’s not entirely true.  I had almost all my social media profiles created when I was a professional photographer.  So, when I launched my professional speaking business (and shut down my photography business), I changed the usernames (handles) on my social media sites.

The point of this blog post today

Yes, my reader, I DO have a point.  And that is that for the first time since I started, people are finding ME and following ME.

That must mean I am doing something right, yes?

What I think I am doing right

Correct me if I am wrong here but it’s a good thing to offer value on social media, right?  I am talking about as a professional here.  You wouldn’t read my blog or follow me on social media if I just wrote about me, me, me…right?  That’s a rhetorical question.  I know the answer.  And so do you.

I continued to do what I could to promote my message.  Including tweaking my WordPress-based website so that it would be user friendly, practical, helpful and mobile-responsive (which means that it will display correctly on any device automatically:   desktop, smartphone or tablet).

But then, without me having done anything to promote it, people started contacting me to inquire about me helping them rebuild their existing website or create a new one from scratch.  They told me that they absolutely loved what I did with my website.

So, as the inquiries kept coming in, I decided to launch a side business:  helping people build a high-quality, mobile-responsive, easy-to-use website.

My whole goal with this new service is to create a great WordPress website for my clients and then turn the keys over to them. They become their own webmaster.  They update, modify, delete, add, etc. stuff on their website when they want to.

But I am sticking to the title I gave this blog post.

Why?

Because I don’t want you just to be.  I want you to do.

There are far too many of us that are just, well, being:  wake up, go to work, come home, watch television, go to sleep, repeat.  Until the weekend, when it’s wake up, have fun, sleep, watch some television, go to bed, wake up, repeat.

People who are just beings don’t achieve as much success as those who are doers.

So, while you are technically a human being…I encourage you to be a human doer.

What are you?

• 38 days until my birthday (June 21)
• 94 days until my youngest daughter starts the 10th grade (August 26)
• 115 days until the start of the 2013 NFL season (September 5)
• 198 days until Thanksgiving (November 28)
• 225 days until Christmas (December 25)
• 232 days until 2014 (January 1)

So, why do I love countdowns so much?  Because they are reminders of important events in my life.

Sometimes, I countdown to goals.

Sometimes, I countdown to vacations.

Sometimes, I countdown just for fun (birthdays, holidays, etc.)

Having goals…good.

Writing your goals down…better.

Writing your goals down and placing them where you can see regularly…awesome.

Counting down to your goals…powerful.

Countdown to my next blog post:  less than 24 hours.

Of course, you have.  It’s a saying that’s been around for many, many years.

And the thing about that saying is…it’s still true today…in 2013 (or whatever year you are reading this).

Every day allows you to start over (if you need to).

Every day gives you another opportunity to take another step towards your goal.

So celebrate the fact that you are alive and reading this blog post today.

Because it truly is the first day of the rest of your life.

What are you going to do with today?

Yes, what I am about to write could be applied to most playoffs, but this is my blog and my favorite sport is ice hockey, so that’s what I’m using.  So, on we go…

Just like major league baseball, football and basketball, the NHL playoffs have rounds.  The first round involves 16 teams which are whittled down to eight for round two, four teams for the third round and then the final two teams battle it out for Lord Stanley’s Cup.

Two lessons anyone can learn from the first round of the NHL playoffs

First, it ain’t over ’til it’s over.  All four rounds of the NHL playoffs are a best of seven series…which means you have to win four games to advance.  It doesn’t matter if you win the first two games, as the St. Louis Blues did in their series against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings.  The Blues lost four games in a row and the series.  They started strong but ended weak.

Your success is the same.  Yes, you will have good days and bad days, but your good days better out number your bad days or your success could be derailed.

Second, start strong and end strong.  The San Jose Sharkes rolled over the Vancouver Canucks in four straight games.  They didn’t take their foot off the accelerator.  Vancouver tried a bunch of stuff (line up changes, strategy, etc.) but were still swept.

In terms of your success, sometimes you can’t feel bad for a competitor (individual or company) that you trounce.  You think they would slow down if they were trouncing you?  No way!

The point I am trying to make here

You can learn success lessons ANYWHERE providing you keep your success antenna up.  There really are no days off on your journey to success.  Sure, there will be days when you take your foot off the accelerator more than others, but you can’t afford to stop for a day, two days, or a week.  Why?  Because your competitor won’t.

With over 27 months of posting, I wanted to take just a moment and talk about WHY I BLOG THE WAY I DO.
