Test your mettle during the Run for Liberty 5k.

Come and support a great cause during one of the 5k runs in Cary this summer. On July 6, Del Bianco Prosthetics and Orthotics is having the Run for Liberty event to support the Amputee Coalition. There will be both 1 mile and 5k runs.

Everyone is welcome and amputees race free. Registration is $25 for the 5k and $10 for the 1 mile, and you can register online for the races. You will receive a t-shirt with your paid registration. Late Registration and Packet pickup is from 7 am – 8:30 am race day. The 1 Mile Fun Run begins at 8:30 am, followed by the 5k at 9 am.

There will be prizes awarded to the top 3 males, females, and amputees in each age category. The age brackets are 11-under, 12-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50 and over.

Fly your flag at Olde Fashioned Fourth.

Enjoy a fun-filled 4th of July celebration in Apex this summer. The Olde Fashioned Fourth of July celebration will be taking place from 9 am to 1 pm on Chatham, Saunders, and Salem streets. The streets are closed from 7 am – 2 pm. Parking is available around the area. A festival map is available on the website.

See the flag raising at 9 am followed by activities from 9:15 am – 11:50 am. Activities include inflatables, carnival games, climbing wall, and more.

Everyone is welcome and no registration is needed to be in Uncle Sam’s Parade of Wheels beginning at 12 pm. Children can decorate their bikes, wagons, and more and ride down Salem Street. After the parade, cool off with the help of the Apex Fire Department. They will hold a splash down area by the Chamber of Commerce.

Remember to bring plenty of sunscreen and water, so that you can stay safe in the summer weather and enjoy the fun.

The Works are sure to impress this year.

Come experience the outstanding 4th of July celebration in Raleigh this summer. The celebration is known as “The Works” with all it has to offer. You’ll find the excitement and activities of this free event at Fayetteville Street and the Red Hat Amphitheater this July 4 from 12 pm – 11 pm.

As one of the best things to do in Durham this summer, the St. Barbara’s Greek Festival is well worth visiting. It is free to attend, so you can invite the whole family!

The St. Barbara’s Greek Festival is an annual event that is held at the St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, which is a new location for 2013. This church is based on 8306 NC Highway 751 and will be filled with people over the two festival dates -  June 1 and 2. The event will be held come rain or shine.

Vendors will be selling the following goods at the festival:

  • Original artwork
  • Greek groceries
  • Clothing and coin scarves
  • Jewelry
  • Souvenirs
  • Crafts
  • Books

After perusing through the goods on offer from vendors, you can embark on a church tour, all while the sound of Greek music fills the air. Entertainment can be enjoyed in the form of folk dance performances and tasty Greek pastries. Food will be served from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Spend some time outside with your pet.

Pet lovers are drawn to our community, because jogging/walking trails weave through our pet-friendly community. Animals tire of doing the same old things everyday, just like humans, so why not prepare for summer by thinking of things to do with your dog? The following ideas will benefit the physical and mental health of both you and your pooch:

  • Spend time bonding with your dog by teaching him/her new tricks. Not only is this fun but it will also positively influence your pet’s behavior.
  • Check out local dog parks with some of your neighbors and their dogs. While your pets roam free, you can get to know the people who live in our community.
  • Arrange a family camping or hiking trip and bring your pooch with you. The fresh air and new surroundings will give your pet a surge of energy.
  • Is your pet badly behaved? If so, arrange obedience training. Your dog will know how to interact with other dogs when he/she attends these classes.
  • Dogs need exercise, so throw a ball or frisbee in an outdoor space for fun and weight management.

The North Carolina Symphony Performance will feature symphonic arrangements of the following well-known video games:

Rickshaws are a popular option for events including weddings. If you want to be a part of this growing service, you should think about taking a tour, such as the Historic Tour for $54. Alternatively, surprise someone special by paying $54 for a Date Package.

You can book a spontaneous ride on the rickshaws by arranging a pick-up time 30 minutes in advance online. Rides are limited to four people. If you are a business owner, you should check out advertising opportunities.

Hours of operation for Raleigh Rickshaws are as follows:

  • 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
  • 5:00 pm to 3:00 am on Thursdays and Fridays
  • 10:00 am to 3:00 am on Saturdays
  • 10:00 am to 11:00 pm on Sundays
