Learn how to upcycle your personal care products into a DIY Washi Tape Vase. Unilever wants to inspire you to recycle and upcycle more in the bathroom to bring more sunshine to the planet. When you think about how many personal care products you use every day, there is a huge opportunity to upcycle and recycle more.

When you buy Unilever personal care products, you are saving more than you think. That’s because the packaging is made from commonly recyclable plastics. Consider adding a small container in your bathroom for recyclables so it’s easy to separate them from the trash. Or better yet, try an upcycle project like my DIY Washi Tape Vases.

Rinse. Recycle. Reimagine.

What did I do with my Unilever containers after rinsing? Instead of recycling them – I upcycled them into something new, useful and pretty. I created DIY Washi Tape Vases to put flowers in.  For this DIY project all you need are a few clean containers and washi tape. Ok – it’s also handy to have a hacksaw because ideally you’ll cut off the tops of your containers (but you don’t have to). Luckily my hubby was excited to volunteer his skills and sawed off the tops of my Nexxus and Simple containers for me. If I had to do this project over again, I would have asked him to cut the top off my Pond’s container too.

When selecting your washi tape, I recommend darker colors with a texture or pattern to them. My favorite DIY vase was the turquoise one because the color did a great job of covering up the lettering on the package and the pattern made it more difficult to see the “wrapping”  lines.

Next I started wrapping my vases in washi tape. I found that starting at the top and placing the tape diagonally across the container worked the best. I experimented a little and found that wrapping in one direction only worked the best. In some areas the lettering on the container showed thru the washi tape so I just covered those areas with two layers of washi tape.

Aren’t my DIY Washi Tape Vases fun to look at? If you love how your DIY vases turn out, I recommend applying modge podge to them in order to more permanently “fix” the washi tape to the container. Add your favorite flowers – I couldn’t resist these Crazy Daisies!

There’s nothing better than a one-skillet meal I can throw together during the week that the entire family loves! I cooked up something new using hearty ingredients like Hillshire Farm® Beef Smoked Sausage that I bought at Target.

I shopped at Target for Hillshire Farm® Beef Smoked Sausage in the refrigerated meat section so I could prepare a delicious weeknight meal. I hate to do dishes so one-skillet meals are right up my alley! The sausage has a wonderful smoky flavor that makes this skillet meal a favorite for both kids and adults.

My recipe is unique because instead of using sauce, it uses the water from the vegetables (tomatoes and onions) with seasonings (garlic, basil, oregano, balsamic vinaigrette and honey). It’s flavorful without being coated with sauce! The beauty of the skillet meal is that you can customize the ingredients for your family’s personal tastes. Sometimes kids can be picky eaters so it’s better to simple cut down the number of ingredients for them. Next time I make this recipe I’d love to spice it up a little by adding jalapenos! See my recipe below so you can make it for your family!

Hillshire Farm® Tuscan Sausage One-Skillet Meal

Ingredients:

12 oz. Hillshire Farm® Beef Smoked Sausage (sliced)
1 small yellow onion (diced)
8 oz. mushrooms (sliced)
5 small vine-ripened tomatoes (diced)
2 Tablespoons minced garlic
1 can (15 oz.) cannelini beans (drained & rinsed)
2 cups white rice (prepared)
3 Tablespoons olive oil
1 Tablespoon honey
1 Tablespoon balsamic vinaigrette
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon basil
salt & pepper
1/2 cup pitted ripe black olives

Directions:

1.   In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sliced sausage until browned then set aside
2.  Add olive oil to skillet then saute the onions. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
3.  Add the sliced mushrooms and tomatoes to the skillet and saute
4.  Add the garlic, cannelini beans and white rice to the skillet
5.  Add the cooked sausage back to the skillet and then add in the seasonings:  honey, balsamic vinaigrette, oregano and basil.
6.  Lastly, garnish with black olives and serve

The black olives make a lovely and tasty garnish for this meal. After feeding my family of four, I was thrilled that I had enough leftovers to save three more meals in the fridge. I wanted to share a list of questions to ask when you see a freebie offer elsewhere on the internet. I hope this helps you avoid some scams (& spam) and avoid the disappointment that comes by asking for things that you will never get.

1. Who is offering the sample? Is the offer from the company that makes the product or a well-known marketing entity like StartSampling?

2. Have you heard of it? Have you heard of this product before or is it available at a store near you (try to look for a “store finder” on the product’s website).

3. Any ads on the page? Are there Google Ads on the free sample request form? This is a red flag that this request form may be bogus and set-up exclusively to attract “hits” to generate ad income and to collect personal information for spammers to spam you.

4. What does the URL look like? Look at the URL, try backing up to the root and check out the home page. If you see what looks like someone’s email address in the URL that means it was an offer exclusive to one individual and can not be shared across the internet with others.

5. What links are on the request form? Look at the links on the sample request form – do they take you to the official product home page? If they take you to Amazon.com – then that’s a red flag that it is a bogus offer.

6. Does the offer seem too good to be true? Question it further.

7. Do you have to “qualify”? Are you asked to “complete a qualifying offer” before you can get the free sample? Don’t do it!

8. Are you asked to submit a code? This may indicate this free sample offer is for a selected audience that was given the code (although I have seen offers where they list the code right on the website, so it depends).

This is my advice – but I’d love to hear yours! And always feel free to email me any time you find a free sample offer that you think sounds fishy – I’d be happy to give you my opinion.
