One of the benefits of living in our Emerson at Cherry Lane community, are the nearby dog parks. There is nothing like taking your four-legged pal out for a day of fun and games!

• Fetch or Frisbee
  Fetch and Frisbee are similar games where you throw a toy or Frisbee and he brings it back to you. If you are playing fetch, use a ball designed for dogs so you do not hurt their teeth.
• Tug of War
  For this game, use a tug toy designed just for dogs. You hold one end, he holds the other in his mouth and you both tug at it to see who wins!
• Catch
  Unlike fetch, you will not be throwing the ball away from your dog. Throw the dog ball straight up in the air where your dog is standing and see if he can catch it in his mouth.

While playing with your dog is a lot of fun, make sure you do not disturb other dogs and owners at the park.

It is time for summer once again, which means that it is also time to get out outdoors and enjoy all the area has to offer in the awesome weather. And if you are a resident of our Emerson Cherry Lane, you are not far at all from Six Flags America.

Six Flags may be an amusement park chain, but Six Flags America is no ordinary Six Flags, and definitely no ordinary amusement park. Like any Six Flags, this location has a range of rides and things to do for everybody in the family, but the highlights of this local landmark are unlike what you will find anywhere else.

For example, this summer the park will be opening up the brand new “Bonzai Pipelines”, which will involve a six story free-fall through an enclosed water tube. Where else will you find this combination of refreshment and thrill? This is in addition to incredible thrill rides like the Skycoaster and The Mind Eraser, as well as kids rides like Happy Junction and the Whistlestop Train.

Here at the Emerson at Cherry Lake apartment community, we provide residents with the luxury of incredibly comfortable carpeting. Sometimes however it can be difficult to keep carpeting clean, especially if you spill anything. Don’t panic if you do spill something on your carpet – the following are a few carpet stain removal tips that will keep your carpet looking like new.

  Baby Wipes – If you accidentally spill your coffee on your carpet in the morning, then use baby wipes to absorb the liquid as well as the stain.

• Cornstarch – If you’ve dropped an open pen without knowing it and it’s leaked a little ink onto the carpet, you’ll want to mix a bit of cornstarch and milk together into a paste and then place it on the stain. Let it sit for a few hours, then brush it off.

• Salt – If you spill red wine on your carpet, use a little bit of white wine to dilute the color while it’s still wet. Then use cold water and a sponge to clean the spill. Place salt on the stain and wait a few minutes. Then vacuum it all up.

Mother’s Day is coming up, which means you should begin planning a special day with your mother near our Emerson at Cherry Lane apartment community. Although there are plenty of fun and exciting activities you can plan in and around Laurel, we recommend taking your mother out for an afternoon at the Botanical Gardens.

There’s plenty to take in at the Botanical Gardens, all of which is free of charge. Visit the Conservatory in order to view some of their permanent exhibits. Some of the exhibits worth checking out include Hawaii, which boasts plants that are native to the volcanic islands; Jungle, which consists of an abandoned plantation that has been taken over by a tropical rainforest; and World Deserts, which is filled with all types of succulents.

You can also take a stroll through the National Gardens, where you’ll be able to view the Regional Garden, the Rose Garden, the First Ladies Water Garden and more. Both the National Garden and the Conservatory are open from 10AM to 5PM. Be sure to check out Bartholdi Park as well, which is open from dawn to dusk.
