With the FIFA World Cup coming to town, you’ll see soccer energy everywhere — not just inside Mercedes‑Benz Stadium.

Neighborhoods, parks, and downtown streets will be filled with fan festivals, live music, watch parties, food events, and cultural celebrations that make the World Cup feel like a city-wide block party.

There are huge fan fests and concerts planned for Centennial Olympic Park and the Decatur Square, as well as smaller events.

Take in a movie under the stars in June

There are FREE outdoor movies all month long, all over the extended metro area! You’ll find them at parks, shopping malls, town centers, and more. Some of them even include FREE popcorn!

Most of these series focus on movies that are rated G or PG, although you might occasionally find a PG-13 thrown in, so parental discretion is advised.

Cool off at a splash pad or sprayground

The splash pads and spraygrounds in Atlanta are a fun way for kids to cool off and play in the water, without going to a pool. No matter where you live in metro Atlanta, there is most likely a park with a water feature near you — and most of them are FREE.

The splash pad season starts in early May and goes through September at most locations. We’ve put together a handy list of splash pads, spraygrounds, and interactive fountains. The list is organized by county.

Teens work out for FREE at Planet Fitness

Thanks to a special offer from Planet Fitness, teens age 14 to 19 can work out for free all summer long, at any of the gym’s locations — there are about 40 of them in the extended metro Atlanta area.

Register for the Kids Bowl FREE program

Kids Bowl Free is a family-friendly program that allows kids to bowl at no cost, all summer long. This is a great indoor option for days that are rainy or extra hot and humid.

Once your children are registered with the program, they can bowl two games a day for FREE, all summer long.

Have a close-up butterfly encounter

You can get up close to hundreds of flying butterflies at local nature centers and gardens. If you’re lucky, you may have a butterfly land on your hand or arm.

Each summer, there are opportunities to enter a butterfly house, also known as a butterfly conservatory or lepidopterarium. (These are different from outdoor butterfly gardens.) They are special facilities designed for breeding and displaying butterflies, often with an emphasis on education.

Enjoy family movies at indoor theaters for cheap

This summer, taking the kids to the movies doesn’t have to be an expensive outing.
Several national theater chains plus a few local theaters are offering cheap summer movies for families on a budget.

The family-friendly films are offered one to five times a week, usually in the morning or early afternoon. Prices range from $0 to $3, and are the same price for kids and adults.

Stone Mountain Park has put together a special Juneteenth tribute, called the Lift Every Voice Drone & Light Show. 
It will celebrate African American culture. 

Each night, from June 18 to 21, 2026 the drone & light show will be FREE.
Tickets are usually $5 for lawn seats.

Keep in mind that parking is $20 per car at the park.

If you come early and want to enjoy the special attractions at the park, you can purchase an Attractions Pass.

The splash pads and spraygrounds in Atlanta are a fun way for kids to cool off and play in the water, without going to a pool. No matter where you live in metro Atlanta, there is most likely a park with a water feature near you — and most of them are FREE. (Some have a small admission fee for kids.)

The splash pad season starts in early May and goes through September at most locations.
Hours vary by location, but a typical schedule is 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Play in the fountain at Centennial Park! As one of the most recognized and photographed landmarks in Georgia, the Fountain of Rings is familiar to everyone.

Centennial Olympic Park is currently open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The fountain runs most of the year, and we’ve seen tourists playing in it late in the fall. It’s probably the largest de facto sprayground in the Southeast, laid out as the five rings of the Olympic logo in a sunken brick plaza.

Food trucks are on site and begin serving at 5:30 p.m. so you can picnic before the music begins. You can purchase beer and wine on site.

The Lawn opens at 5 p.m. and you can set up your blanket or chairs.

You may bring a picnic meal or snacks, but you may not bring in outside alcohol.

The City of Lawrenceville presents the annual Cultura Fiesta Latina, a full sensory experience celebrating the diversity of Latin culture through live music, street performances, food, art, and so much more!

What to expect at this FREE Latin culture festival?
Enjoy Cultura throughout Downtown Lawrenceville with a special Fiesta del Barrio on the square featuring DJs, street performances, live music, and cocktail specials.

Get down to the Lawn for an energetic live music lineup, a maker’s market featuring local Latin artists and curators, and a food court with all of your favorite local Latin food pop-ups with a variety of savory and sweet Latin treats.

Duluth has a liberal alcohol policy with an open container policy.
During special events, you can carry an alcoholic beverage with you, as long as it was purchased from licensed downtown merchant. So swing by a local restaurant and grab a cocktail when you arrive!

Come early to make your own lantern and enjoy live entertainment on the Town Green — and then take part in the magical Lantern Parade for a colorful procession through downtown Duluth.

The events are FREE to attend.
The lantern-making workshop features free materials and instruction, while supplies last — so we suggest arriving early!

You can also bring your own lanterns, either purchased or made at home.

This year’s parade theme is Ocean Glow—a dazzling celebration of light and color.

The program runs from Tuesday, May 26 until Friday, July 31, 2026. 
Hours are Monday thru Friday, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., while supplies last.

Ten classic family films will play on weekdays at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. 
There will be a different film each week for 10 weeks, from May 22 to July 30, 2026. 

Each film opens on a Friday, then plays again Monday through Thursday.

Plus, you can add a Popcorn Snack Pack for $6.00 (includes a free refill!)

Through the Blue Star Museums program, families of active military members can enjoy FREE admission at over 2,000 venues nationwide — including 14 in the Atlanta metro area. The program is made possible through collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts.

This is a summer program.
In 2026, the FREE admission offer at participating venues begins on May 16th (Armed Forces Day) and continues through Monday, September 7th (Labor Day).

Nationwide, participating venues include children’s museums, fine art museums, history and science centers, zoos, and nature centers.

Kids can download a free activity sheet to commemorate each of the Blue Star venues they visit this summer.

Who gets FREE admission through the Blue Star Museums program?

The free admission program is open to active-duty military personnel, and their families, including:

• Army
• Navy
• Air Force
• Marine Corps
• Coast Guard
• Reserves
• National Guard
• U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps
• NOAA Commissioned Corps

The active-duty member does NOT have to present for families to get the free admission deal. A spouse or other family member is also eligible, with a military family ID card.

The military ID holder may bring up to five family members for free. A family member of active duty military may include a spouse or child, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.

The Blue Star Museums program does NOT include veterans, retired military personnel, or spouses/children of deceased military personnel. It was designed to support families of those who are actively deployed. However, you can contact a museum directly to find out what kinds of military discounts it offers to veterans and retirees.

NOTE: In some cases, a venue might exclude special exhibits or traveling exhibits from the free admission program.

The Blue Star Museums website mandates one of the following ID types:

• Geneva Convention common access card (CAC)
• DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID)
• DD Form 1173-1 ID

 Movie buffs, grab your popcorn!  Uptown Atlanta is launching an outdoor movie series, to take place weekly outdoors at Uptown, the mixed use destination around the Lindbergh MARTA station. (Formerly known as Lindbergh City Center.)

The movies will take place monthly on first Thursdays of the month, from May through November. 

These events are FREE to attend and take place from 7 to 9 p.m.

Food vendors will be on site.
Bring blankets or chairs.

The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta: admission deals & ticket discounts.

Did you know GA residents get FREE admission on their birthdays? Details below!

The Georgia Aquarium is a popular destination. It opened to the public in November of 2005, and over one million visitors toured the new attraction within the first 100 days.

You’ll want to browse all the available discounts below — because visiting the aquarium is a pricey excursion.

Ticket prices are currently quite high — $64.99 for a single-day ticket when you purchase it on the day of your visit, plus tax. It’s the same price for adults and children.
Fortunately, there are several discounts and ways to save — see below.

Remember, the special offers below are subject to change at any time — so please click the links provided and make sure the deal is still on.
Many special offers were suspended during the pandemic, when venues were struggling to make ends meet. We expect they’ll come back at some point.

Deals may also be subject to blackout dates around holidays. And, most offers cannot be combined with other discounts.

Kids two and under are always FREE.

Take advantage of Military Mondays at the GA Aquarium — with free admission for active and retired military.

Remember, full-price for a same-day ticket is $64.99 for both adults and children.
Kids two and under are FREE. 

Advance purchase savings

Save up to $25 when you purchase your ticket online at least one day in advance, for a non-peak day and time. 
And it’s so simple! Why wouldn’t you want to buy in advance and save five bucks? NOTE that sales tax is added to this amount.

Currently, advance purchase prices range from $39.99 to 52.99, depending on the day of the week.
Plan your visit in advance to get the best price.

The Groupon Deal – save 15%, with no fees

The current Groupon deal is for aquarium ticket for $50.99, which is about a 15% savings. But remember, Groupon does NOT add sales tax or any fees to your ticket — so that’s the final price.

You’ll have to choose a date and entry time on Groupon when you purchase tickets.
The offer is good through December 31, 2023.
The Aquarium will raise prices starting January 1st, and we’ll update if a new Groupon deal is offered then.

NOTE: You can get up to 8% cashback from Rakuten (formerly Ebates) if you sign up and start a shopping session before you purchase your Groupon. You get the money at the end of each quarter and can have it sent to you via check or PayPal.

$20 Tuesdays in 2025 — but buy before Aug. 28th

This is an advance purchase discount — you must buy your $20 ticket by August 28th, for any Tuesday between August 18 and December 23, 2025.
You’ll just $20. 
Note there is a sales tax added, plus a $5 ticket fee.

Get a yearly pass for the price of one admission

UPDATE: From May 2 to 11, 2025, you can save $10 on the Aqua Pass, which is valid then for the rest of 2025.

This is one of the best deals offered by the Georgia Aquarium — an Aqua Pass that offers max savings to frequent visitors.
This is how it works:
For just $64.99 (plus tax), you’ll get a pass that gives you FREE admission for the rest of 2024 plus all of 2025.

Things to know:
This offer is no longer limited to Georgia residents only — it is open to everyone.

Reservations are required for each visit (make them online).

The offer doesn’t include parking or admission to special events.

Your spot is not guaranteed, so make your reservation well in advance.

Save with a membership package

If you like to visit the Georgia Aquarium multiple times a year, it only makes sense to purchase a membership. The Individual plan is just $90, which means it more than pays for itself on your second visit. A Family membership is $ for four people, and comes with two free guest tickets.

The aRes Travel discount package

Get an aquarium admission deal and special perks through aRes Travel, an online booking and ticketing platform.
This is a tourist-friendly deal. 

For the discounted price of $48 (plus a $2 convenience fee), you get a general admission ticket that allows to visit again the next day for free. This deal is a great bargain for those who want to explore the aquarium over a two-day period.

The military discount & free admission days

To get the discount online, you’ll have to either verify your military credentials through ID.me OR buy tickets at the aquarium box office and present a military ID in person.

The discount applies to advance purchases only, and brings the price down to $37.99 plus tax.

For the price of a single-day admission ticket (at full price), you can buy a Fall Bounce Pass and get unlimited visits to the Aquarium for the remainder of 2023.

The Fall Bounce Pass is $47.99 (plus tax) and gives you access to every part of the Aquarium, including the Sharks gallery and the Sea Lion and Dolphin presentations.

It also gives you access to seasonal fun, including:
* Haunted Seas — enjoy Halloween-themed Sea Lion & Dolphin shows, a spooky decorated Atrium, and trick-or-treating on weekends in October.
* Holidays at the GA Aquarium — come for daily tree lighting events plus photos with Santa.

You must buy the pass online prior to October 31, 2023. 
It becomes valid on the same day you purchase it.

Once you buy the Pass, remember that you’ll still have to book a timed reservation online for the days you wish to visit. You’ll have to create an account at georgiaaquarium.org, so you can use your account to reserve an entry pass for your chosen date. You may also need to reserve a seat at the Dolphin & Sea Lion shows.

You can visit as often as you like, but you have to follow the reservation process each time.

Getting there and parking

If you’re relying on GPS to get there, use the following street address for a direct route to Georgia Aquarium parking: 357 Luckie Street, NW Atlanta, GA 30313. You enter the aquarium from the 2nd floor of the parking garage.

MARTA is an option. There are two rail stations nearby, and each one is about a 12-13 minute walk away from the aquarium.

• From the Blue/Green line: Exit at the Dome/GWCC/Phillips Arena/CNN Station
• From the Gold/Red line: Exit at Peachtree Center Station

The program runs from June through mid-August. 

Here’s how it works:
Each week, two movies are offered at the $1 price, from Monday thru Thursday, at 11 a.m.
It’s possible the start times may vary by location, but we clicked around a bit and everything we looked at was 11 a.m.
Both movies run on all days, so you have a choice.
You could also see both films over two days.

The films are always rated G or PG.

Atlanta International Night Market will hold its next event in downtown Chamblee. The event takes place over two days and is FREE to attend. 

On Friday, June 5, 2026,  the Night Market hours are 5 to 10 p.m. 
On Saturday, June 6th, hours are 2 to 10 p.m. 

It’s all happening at the plaza and green space in front of Chamblee City Hall, located at:

The designated ride share dropoff and pickup point is located at 5374 Peachtree Road. 

Using MARTA
Downtown Chamblee is embracing transit-oriented development — and the business district is an easy walk from the Chamblee MARTA Station.

If you live anywhere on the Gold Line, MARTA is a no-brainer. Get off at Chamblee Station, then follow the signs pointing to the buses (not to Chamblee Tucker Rd) to exit the platform. In the middle of the station, one level below, you’ll find a short covered walkway that is marked Peachtree Rd. This is the shortest walk to the concert.

Open container policy!

Chamblee becomes the latest municipality in the Atlanta metro area to allow outdoor alcohol consumption in its entertainment district!

Starting June 1, 2023, you can purchase alcohol from a licensed establishment in downtown Chamblee and carry it with you, as long as you adhere to the ordinance guidelines.

Here’s what you need to know:

• Hours for outdoor alcohol consumption are 9 a.m to 10 p.m.
• Open containers are prohibited outside those hours.
• You still must be 21 or older to purchase alcohol.
• Alcohol-licensed restaurants will dispense your drink in a clearly marked plastic cup.
• Beer and wine cannot exceed 16 fluid ounces; for distilled spirits it’s 12 ounces.
• You cannot bring your own alcohol to the city for open container consumption.

Tunes by the Tracks is back in 2026!

The FREE concerts will take place outside Outrun Brewing, located in the heart of the Village at the corner of E. Mountain St. and Second St. 

Tunes by the Tracks takes place on Friday nights in May and June, and may return for a fall series — so stay tuned!

The music series features local indie artists. 

Bring a lawn chair, if you’d like. 
Outrun Brewing will be serving beer, there will be a food truck on site, and you’ll find find options within the Village as well. 

Concerts are 7 to 9 p.m. and take place rain or shine, but may be canceled during times of severe weather.

The Avenue Peachtree City and local band The Venus Kings have teamed up to host a series of FREE First Friday concerts. 

From March through October, this series will bring the Peachtree City community together for live music, dining and entertainment, all in one location.

The concerts will start at 7:00 p.m. on each monthly date and last roughly to 9:30.

You’re invited to grab dinner or a drink on site, and enjoy a free night out with friends and family. 
Find the concerts happening at Central Park within the Avenue’s shopping district. 

Bring a lawn chair or blanket, and dress for the weather!

Avondale Estates will once again host its Weekend Wind Down concerts on the Town Green. These FREE concert events take place on select dates this year, and the schedule is below.

The dates are mostly 2nd Sundays — except for May and June. 
NOTE that there are no concerts in July and August. 

Bring your own chairs or blanket.
There will be food trucks on site.

The post Avondale Estates hosts its FREE Weekend Wind Down concert this Sunday – Blue Talk takes the stage appeared first on Atlanta on the Cheap.

Snellville will host its annual Beach Blast on Sunday, June 7, 2026 from noon to 5 p.m. 
NOTE that this the rain date, for the event that was postpone in May due to weather. 

This is the last time the city will put on this event, citing the tremendous amount of logistics and heavy machinery needed to make this event happen. 

It happens on the Towne Green in front of City Hall, as Oak Road is transformed into a beach paradise with 70 tons of soft white sand. 

The event is FREE to attend. 
Enjoy great music, fun, and games, including hula hoop contests, sack races, water balloon contests, and more.
Bring your lawn chairs or blankets — and your beach toys. 

DJ Lee will spin tunes from noon to 3 p.m.
The Gold Standard Band will take the stage at 3 p.m., performing beach music. 

The first 100 kids to check in at the volunteer tent will receive either a beach ball or a bottle of bubbles.

The All-Day Kids Zone Activity Armband is $15 and includes:
Big Kahuna Water Slide
Inflatable Slides
80-foot Inflatable Obstacle Course
Bounce House
Shoot-the-Hoop Inflatable Basketball
Trackless Train Ride

The City of College Park will host its Juneteenth Parade & Community Day Celebration on Friday, June 19, 2026. This is a day-long series of events, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Everything is FREE to attend, with the events centered at and around the Wyatt Recreation Center.
