Trick-or-Treat Week in Downtown Decatur runs from Oct. 25th thru Halloween

Hilda — Sun, 18 Oct 2026 15:35:53 +0000

Who says Halloween only has to be one day?
The merchants in downtown Decatur have come up with Trick-or-Treat WEEK this year, to spread out the fun.

The event is happening from Sunday, October 25 through Saturday, October 31, 2026.

How to participate
Head to downtown Decatur in costume, and look for the pumpkin decal that says “Trick or Treat Stop” in the windows of downtown merchants. Then, just come inside a participating venue and say the magic words — Trick or Treat!

You can visit for trick-or-treating between the hours of 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
The event is even bigger this year, with 30 shops participating.

40+ Trick-or-Treat (and Trunk-or-Treat) events in Atlanta & suburbs

Hilda — Sun, 18 Oct 2026 15:15:00 +0000

Are you looking for Trick-or-Treat (or Trunk-or-Treat) events in the greater Atlanta area? Here are a bunch of them, starting in early October and running all through Halloween weekend.

If you’d rather bring your kids to an organized event, rather than going door to door, these are great options. They take place at churches, schools, shopping malls, and more.

Trunk-or-Treat events take place in parks and community center parking lots. This is a different spin on trick-or-treating. It’s meant to be safe and fun, it’s suitable for suburban areas that aren’t so walkable, and it eliminates concerns about traffic or crossing streets in the dark.

The idea with Trunk-or-Treat is that local businesses, organizations, and community members hand out treats from a parked car with a decorated trunk. Kids can “trunk or treat” from car to car to get goodies.

At these events, there is often more than just candy gathering. Some happen along with fall festivals or Halloween parties, so you might find entertainment, costume contests and parades, or free outdoor movies.

The best fall festivals & fairs around metro Atlanta — things to do in October & November

Hilda — Sun, 18 Oct 2026 14:09:00 +0000

The best fall festivals in metro Atlanta in 2026 — including state fairs, county fairs, carnivals, harvest celebrations, Oktoberfests, arts and music festivals, and more!

Fall festival season in Atlanta kicks off around Labor Day Weekend, when it still feels like summer, and continues until Thanksgiving — and then it’s time for tree and menorah lightings, ice rinks, and holiday fun.

This list includes festivals, carnivals, and fairs that are taking place in September, October, and November. This is the most complete listing you will find!

The events take place across the extended metro Atlanta region — so you can plan a day trip or stick close to home.

As always, we emphasize festivals with FREE admission, but there are exceptions. The state and county fairs have an admission charge at the gate, and of course you’ll pay for rides — but for each one, we keep a list of ticket discounts and ways to save money.

We also have a guide to Atlanta summer festivals and a humongous list of Atlanta spring festivals.

Hilda — Sun, 18 Oct 2026 13:00:00 +0000

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a vibrant Mexican holiday celebrated from October 31 to November 2. This festive occasion is dedicated to honoring and remembering loved ones who have passed away.

Traditional elements include colorful altars, marigolds, sugar skulls, and traditional foods. Families come together to create ofrendas (altars) adorned with photos, candles, and the favorite items of the deceased, welcoming their spirits back for a brief reunion.

Fox Theatre: See the silent classic “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” with live organ accompaniment on Tuesday

Hilda — Sat, 17 Oct 2026 23:16:22 +0000

The Fox Theatre’s beloved Coca-Cola Film Series returns this fall with two nights of classic and contemporary horror, featuring the 1920 silent film Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. and The Ring in Concert on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde will transport audiences to the silent-film era with live accompaniment by Fox Theatre in-house organist Ken Double on “Mighty Mo,” the theater’s legendary Möller pipe organ.
Custom-built for the Fox in 1929, this musical instrument is one of the largest and most renowned theater organs in the country.

The Ring in Concert will feature a screening of the acclaimed 2002 psychological thriller, accompanied by a live performance of Hans Zimmer’s score by the Georgia Symphony Orchestra.

Starring Naomi Watts, the film follows journalist Rachel Keller as she investigates a mysterious videotape linked to a series of unexplained deaths.
Composer Hans Zimmer describes the score’s minimalist, unsettling approach as central to the film’s creeping dread and psychological tension.

Released by DreamWorks Pictures in 2002, “The Ring” helped redefine modern horror and remains one of the era’s most influential psychological thrillers.

Tickets for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde start at $20.50, and tickets for The Ring in Concert start at $52.25.
Tickets are now on sale at foxtheatre.org/events.
All tickets purchased through the Fox Theatre website reflect all-in pricing.

The Marquee Club will be available as a premium add-on for eligible ticket holders during the online ticket-purchase process.

Additional titles in the Coca-Cola Film Series will be announced as the Fox Theatre continues to pair celebrated films with distinctive live and immersive experiences for Atlanta audiences.

Trunk-or-Treat event at the Johns Creek police station on Wednesday, Oct. 21st

Hilda — Sat, 17 Oct 2026 22:33:54 +0000

You’re invited to the annual Trunk-or-Treat event at the Johns Creek Police Department.
It takes place on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
It is FREE to attend.

In past years there have been food trucks on site and Halloween-themed activities — we’ll update with this info when we know more.

The police station and City Hall are s located at 11360 Lakefield Drive in Johns Creek.
More info OR visit the Facebook page

Trunk-or-Treat is a different spin on trick-or-treating. It’s meant to be safe and fun, it’s suitable for suburban areas that aren’t so walkable, and it eliminates concerns about traffic or crossing streets in the dark.

The idea is that local businesses, organizations, and community members hand out treats from a parked car with a decorated trunk. Kids can “trunk or treat” from car to car to get goodies.

Check out our huge list of Halloween Happenings and our list of safe trick-or-treat events.

Where to find hundreds of FREE pumpkin-carving stencils online

Hilda — Sat, 17 Oct 2026 02:16:34 +0000

Want to know the secret to amazing carved pumpkins? It’s all about the stencils. When you have a pattern, you can create more interesting Jack-o-lantern faces, and even carve things like bats, witches, or ghouls.

Check out this list of sources for FREE pumpkin-carving stencils. Most are available to download and print from your computer or mobile device.

And if you really want to knock it out of the park, consider making a one-time investment in a set of carving tools — like this set available for $17 on Amazon.

How do stencils work?

Print the stencil you like at the size you need
Hollow out your pumpkin and tape your pattern to the outside
Trace the pattern’s lines by poking holes over them, then remove the paper stencil
Carve over the holes and you’ll have a jack-o-lantern ready for Halloween!

Check out our huge list of Halloween Happenings and our list of safe trick-or-treat events.

Atlanta Streets Alive: The Southwest Route (West End to Grant Park) returns on Sunday, October 18th

Hilda — Sat, 17 Oct 2026 02:04:49 +0000

Streets Alive is back for a full season in 2026 — with eight events scheduled for all three routes from March through November.

Hours for each date are typically 2 to 6 p.m. and we’ll update if this changes for the fall dates (which may be 1 to 5 p.m.)

Here’s the scoop on the Southwest Route:
On select Sunday afternoons, for four glorious hours, over three miles of Georgia Avenue and Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. will be closed to cars — and open for people to stroll, roll, bike, and play!

Along the route, you’ll find a wealth of interactive experiences, hosted by community organizations, local businesses, and Streets Alive sponsors.

You can explore the route from end to end, or enter and exit the route at any cross-street at any time during the four-hour activation.

Atlanta Streets Alive is FREE and fun for all ages.
Remember to bring a valid ID if you’d like to enjoy a cocktail along the way.

About the Southwest Route

The Southwest Route stretches from Atlanta’s West End to Grant Park.

It connects seven Southwest Atlanta neighborhoods — including Westview, Historic West End, Adair Park, Pittsburgh, Mechanicsville, Beecher-Donnelly, and Summerhill.

The route travels along Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. to Georgia Avenue.
View the interactive Southwest Route map

When is Atlanta Streets Alive?

Events are typically 2 to 6 p.m.

For 2026, the following dates have been scheduled for all routes.
Note that we have separate information pages for each of the routes — just click thru the links for specific route info.

Sunday, March 22 — NEW route! MLK: Beltline to Broad
Sunday, April 19 — Peachtree Street route(downtown to midtown)
Sunday, May 31 — Southwest route (West End to Grant Park)
* Sunday, June 14 — NEW route! MLK: Beltline to Broad
Sunday, Sept. 27 — Peachtree Street route (downtown to midtown)
Sunday, Oct. 18 — Southwest route (West End to Grant Park)
Sunday, Nov. 8 — Howell Mill Road (Westside Stride partnership event)

*NOTE that the June 14th date may change, as it’s happening close to the FIFA World Cup games in Atlanta.

Get more information and view the route map
The route map includes restrooms and special activities.

About the May 31st event

This event proudly highlights Music in the Park ATL as its Cultural Sponsor, bringing multiple live music stages and performances throughout the route, featuring local artists, DJs, jazz ensembles, poets, and community performers.

Featured acts include Kebbi Williams and the Wolf Pack, Atlanta Improvisers Orchestra, CJ Brinson & the Family, Mausiki Scales, Georgia State Jazz Band, Nathalie Rose, REVERENCE, Funk Lordz, Toma Fit, and more.
Join the Wolfpack for a second line parade at 5 pm at Lee Street and Ralph David Abernathy.

Travel the whole route and discover different activities along the way, including swing dancing, Peach Roll Skate experiences, pilates, yoga, and fitness classes, community bike activations and safety education, interactive art stations, free poetry, family activities, pet zones, games, and wellness resources.

New to Streets Alive? Here’s how it works!

Streets Alive is FREE and it’s for everyone. You don’t have to be an athlete to join in. It doesn’t matter how old you are or what neighborhood you live in.

The open street route has no formal beginning or end. You can hop on at any point you like. The flow of people will move in both directions, like it does on the Beltline.

This is a chance for you to EXPLORE our city. You can stroll, roll, shop, eat, play, socialize, or simply enjoy the spring weather — all without the noise, fumes, and intensity of Atlanta’s traffic.

The idea is to OPT OUT traffic.

Streets Alive creates a a whole new healthy and vibrant city street experience in Atlanta.
So bring your bicycle, your skateboard, or just your feet, and get ready to explore your community streets in a safer, healthier, more livable way!

Getting there

Please don’t bring a car to Streets Alive!

You can walk, bike, or scooter to the route. You can also use Uber or Lyft, but the idea is to opt out of traffic.

This route is perhaps not as accessible as some others, like the Peachtree Street route, which followed the MARTA tracks closely.

The only MARTA rail station along the route is West End Station. It is somewhat in the middle of the route. West End Station is on the Gold/Red (north-south) line.

The West Lake and Ashby MARTA Stations, on the Blue (east-west) line are also options.

We recommend the Marta On The Go app for easy access to rail maps and timetables. Remember, trains run less often on Sundays, usually every 20 minutes.

Hilda — Fri, 16 Oct 2026 15:41:00 +0000

How to watch the Charlie Brown Halloween, Thanksgiving, & Christmas specials in 2026 (they’re not on network TV!)

You may remember that the Charlie Brown holiday specials left network TV a few years ago.
They moved to Apple TV+, which requires a paid subscription to view much of the programming.

But don’t despair.
You’ll have a few chances to stream these beloved holiday shows for FREE this year, during special windows when Apple TV is offering access to non-subscribers.

The traditional Peanuts specials include shows for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Apple has exclusive streaming rights to all three, through 2030.

When to tune in to watch the Peanuts specials

Mark your calendars!
Set your DVRs!
These are the dates and times you’ll need to know, if you’re not a subscriber to Apple TV+.

And of course, if you are an Apple TV+ subscriber, you can watch these iconic Peanuts classics any day of the year, on demand.

NOTE: Depending on the device you stream on, you may need to log in with or create an Apple ID (which is your email address).

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

How to watch the Charlie Brown holiday shows

See the list above for the window of time that each show is free to non-subscribers, then choose your preferred streaming device.

NOTE: Depending on the device you stream on, you may need to log in with or create an Apple ID (which is your email address).

From a Windows computer:
Open your preferred browser. Go to tv.apple.com and search with the keywords Charlie Brown or by the title of the special you want to watch.

From an iPhone or Ipad:
Open the Apple TV app, which comes pre-loaded on these devices. Either tap on the category “Free for Everyone,” or use the search bar to find the show you want.

From your streaming device or Smart TV:

You may need to download the compatible Apple TV app first. Then, just open the app. It may ask you to sign in with an Apple ID, but you should be able to bypass that and see a list of the shows that are available for free. (Again, make sure you know which dates each of the Peanuts specials will be offered free to non-subscribers.) Devices include:

Another option:
Buy a monthly subscription to Apple TV+ for $6.99 a month, enjoy it for a month or three, then cancel with no obligation.

Getting there and parking

Parking around the L5P area is always a challenge, even on the best of days. With several streets closed to cars for the festival, it’s a good idea to leave the car at home. Walk, bike, scooter, ride MARTA, or take a rideshare service.

Coming from the suburbs? One option we’ve used in the past is to park at the Carter Presidential Library and walk to Little Five Points, using the walking route option in the Google Maps app.

The closest MARTA station is Inman Park / Reynoldstown, on the blue/green (east/west) line.

According to the event’s website, buses won’t be running from the station to L5P, so you’ll need to make the 15-minute walk to L5P or rent a Relay Bike or electric scooter at the station.

Walking directions from Inman Park Station to L5P:

Exit the station, following the signs pointing to Inman Park.
Turn left on Dekalb Avenue
Turn left onto the ramp down to Moreland Avenue
Turn left on Euclid Avenue

Alternatively, you could use the PATH trail through Inman Park (the actual park). To do this:

Exit the station parking lot and turn left on Poplar Circle. The street becomes a Path sidewalk through the park — it will have a painted stripe down the middle.
Turn right on Euclid Avenue, which is the first street intersection.
Walk a few blocks to reach L5P.

NOTE: Google Maps now provides the best scooter route along with walking directions.
