Quick Thoughts

This is a fairly easy bonus to earn on a checking account, especially given the $400 upside. While the terms require two direct deposits of $500 or more and state that ACH transfers will not count, data points show that the direct deposit requirements can be easy to meet through a variety of activities.

Nick has had a Capital One 360 account for many years and has frequently used it to meet direct deposit requirements at other banks, as ACH pushes from his 360 Checking account almost always trigger those requirements. The 360 Checking account has no fees or account minimums, so it has been very easy to keep the account open over the years.

There’s no early termination fee if you meet the promo terms, earn the bonus, and then decide you no longer want to keep the account. On the flip side, if you have or had an open 360 Checking, Simply Checking, or Total Control Checking account as a primary or secondary account holder with Capital One on or after January 1, 2024, you will be ineligible for the bonus.

Overall, this bonus looks like easy money. We like checking account bonuses with low requirements and often look at them in terms of the total being doubled if you’re in 2-player mode.

Quick Thoughts

Based on the terms, you only have to leave $2.5K or $25K in the bank for ~31 days to get the bonus. This is because you have to deposit $25 initially, then add the remainder within 30 days of account opening. Then, you have to maintain that balance for 60 days after account opening.

It’s important to note that the net upside is a bit lower than $400 or $825. There are plenty of ways to get ~4% interest right now with savings accounts, CDs, and T-bills, so you’re effectively losing 31 days of interest on the money that you put in. Given that, the opportunity cost is ~$100 for the $25K option (or ~$10 for the $2.5K), making the incremental gain closer to $725 than $825.

That said, the larger bonus still corresponds to a ~40% annual interest rate, an incredible return. At the same time, there’s a minimum time commitment and more flexibility with your money. The smaller version is simply a no-brainer if you have $2,500 that you can free up for a month.

Wells Fargo periodically runs a very similar promotion on its personal Way2Save accounts, but the bonus is only $525 for a $25K deposit requirement, AND you have to keep the money in the account for 61 days instead of 31. This business checking offer is vastly superior.

Do note that there is a $15 monthly fee, which can be waived only with a $500 minimum daily balance (or a $1K average ledger balance). That’s obviously not an issue when you have the required amount in the account, but remember to factor it into the deposit or add $500 initially to avoid the fee being deducted in the first month.

Quick Thoughts

There are no monthly fees or minimums on Amex Rewards Checking, so it’s an easy enough account to open with no ongoing “gotchas” to worry about. The account features a debit card that earns 1 Membership Rewards point for every $2 spent. I personally wouldn’t even think about using that for anything Amex wouldn’t like, since the rewards are relatively small.

It is a big bummer that current and prior Rewards Checking account customers are not eligible for the bonus, which may disqualify many readers. On the other hand, if you haven’t ever had a Rewards Checking account, this could possibly be an easy $600 in a 2-player household.

Quick Thoughts

The initial bonus on this card is a large number of miles that could easily get you a one-way business-class ticket on a partner airline to almost any region of the world.

However, the main attraction here is, of course, the Admirals Club lounge access. The primary cardholder gets access to Admirals Clubs. Unfortunately, authorized users are no longer free and are pretty expensive at $175 for the first three, then $175 for each thereafter. Still, if you frequently use Admirals Club lounges, the cost could still be worth it — but it’s fairly expensive if that’s your only reason for carrying the card.

The card also has a few key benefits that may be of interest.

For starters, there is a rental car benefit that sounds broadly useful: get up to $120 in statement credits each calendar year for car rentals booked directly with Avis or Budget. That’s great since it means that you should be able to use any corporate codes that you’re eligible to use, so long as you book directly with Avis/Budget. Furthermore, I bolded the words “calendar year” to be clear that you could double up and get this credit twice in your first cardmember year. In other words, you could get the card now and use the credit for a rental car next week, and then you could use the benefit again in January, getting up to $240 in statement credits before your next annual fee comes due.

The card also features a monthly $10 credit for GrubHub purchases, which will be useful to some and not at all for others. I don’t get very excited about GrubHub statement credits simply because GrubHub doesn’t exist in my nearby area, but if I lived in a city where I passed by a place where I might want to place a GrubHub pick-up order once a month, I’d surely feel differently.

There’s also a Lyft benefit, though it isn’t as generous as it sounds. It gets billed as “up to $120 in Lyft ride credits”, but that’s a $10 Lyft credit after you take 3 qualifying rides in a month. All Mastercard World and World Elite cardholders can get a $5 Lyft credit after 3 Lyft rides in a month, so the AAdvantage Executive card is only adding another $5 to that. This benefit seems kind of gimmicky to me: you have to use Lyft frequently to get the credit, and then you also have to forgo the chance to earn better rewards with a different card.

You also earn 4x on American Airlines purchases, which is a nice bump that Greg has noted might make the card worth using instead of a transferable currency card that would earn 3x points. You can also get 10x for hotels booked at AA.com/hotels, which might make sense when you don’t care about elite credit or benefits, and you’ll get 10x for cars booked at AA.com/Cars, but I imagine that you’ll rarely get a competitive price on a car rental through that portal.

Those chasing elite status will enjoy the bumps in Loyalty Points: with this card, you’ll get 10,000 bonus Loyalty Points after you earn 50,000 Loyalty Points (from all sources combined) in an elite status year and 10,000 after you earn 90,000 Loyalty Points. You could presumably earn all of those Loyalty Points through the shopping portal without ever using the Executive card at all, and you’d still qualify for those 10K Loyalty Point bonuses just by virtue of having the card.

Overall, I still suspect this card will be a good fit for some, though it won’t be a good fit for those who want it primarily for cheap access to Admirals Club lounges for a group. However, if you value the other parts and pieces, this offer could still be intriguing.

The current JetBlue Match to Mosaic program is JetBlue’s “typical” status match, offering those who hold elite status with competitors the opportunity to match their status to either Mosaic 1 or Mosaic 2, depending on the competing status they hold. If matched, you are temporarily granted status and must collect tiles within 3 months to either keep the matched status or to level up to as high as Mosasic 3.

JetBlue publishes a status match matrix, showing which competing statuses they match and where your status will land you in the JetBlue system. The normal version is below:

However, for the remainder of May, those with Spirit status are pushed one rung up the ladder:

If you are successfully matched, you’ll need to earn the following number of tiles within 3 months to keep your status:

• 10 tiles to keep Mosaic 1
• 25 tiles to keep Mosaic 2
• 40 tiles to earn Mosaic 3 (you can move up with 40 tiles)

As a reminder, you earn tiles in the following ways (and you can mix and match for extending status):

• 1 tile for every $100 spent on JetBlue
• 1 tile for every $1,000 spent on a JetBlue credit card

In other words, if you are matched to Mosaic 1, to keep that status, you’ll either need to spend $1,000 on JetBlue airfare or $10,000 on a JetBlue credit card (or some combination thereof) to keep your status through the following calendar year.

If you complete the tile requirements, your status will extend through the end of the following calendar year. If you match in May and earn the necessary tiles, your matched status will last through the 2027 membership year (which actually ends on January 31, 2028).

How to match to JetBlue Mosaic status

The process of requesting a match is simple. Go to the status match landing page and click the button to “apply now” for the match.

You’ll need to fill out a survey with information such as your name as it appears on both frequent flyer accounts and your JetBlue account number/email. You will also need to provide proof of your competing status. You must submit a screenshot that includes:

• Proof of your current competing status level
• Your name
• Year-to-date qualification progress
• Loyalty program number
• A screenshot or photo of your most recent boarding pass or flight confirmation email showing your status, if you’re matching to Mosaic 2

Once you submit that proof, JetBlue reviews it, which can take anywhere from a couple of days to a week or more. Then, once approved, the email states that it may take up to 4 weeks for the status to appear in your JetBlue account. In practice, most data points indicate that status is reflected in one’s JetBlue account within about a week. Do note that you’ll want to submit for a match well ahead of the date you need it, since this process consistently takes 1-2 weeks in total.

I’m assuming the purchase must be made with the new authorized user card, but a strict reading of the terms doesn’t explicitly state that. In theory, that might mean a purchase on the primary cardholder’s card would work, but I wouldn’t count on it, so it’d be best to make the purchase on the authorized user card.

Bear in mind that adding an authorized user will add to that person’s 5/24 status with Chase. However, if that pushes them over the 5/24 mark and that’s the reason they get declined by Chase, you can call reconsideration to ask them to ignore that authorized user card. That’s not so bad if it’s you making the call, but if it’s your partner who’d have to call Chase, you’ll have to weigh whether the $50 cashback bonus from Discover is worth having your partner call Chase.

Quick Thoughts

GHA Discovery is a loyalty program made for a “unique collection of independent hospitality brands” which make up the Global Hotel Alliance. My impression is that GHA is sort of like a step between Small Luxury Hotels of the World, which ties together a bunch of truly separate/independent hotels, and a single major chain brand like Marriott. Essentially, GHA seems to bring together multiple smaller hospitality companies, such as Kempinski (headquartered in Switzerland) and Minor Hotels (headquartered in Thailand and parent company of brands like NH Collection and Anantara), along with numerous others.

GHA Discovery is a program that periodically offers hotel status matches (and has included some free backdoor opportunities). I haven’t taken them up on previous offers since I don’t tend to stay at their affiliated hotels. That said, I did stay at an NH Collection hotel in Brussels a couple of years ago (booked through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts to use a prepaid hotel credit), and we were very happy with our stay (I didn’t write a full review, but it got a mention in this post). I’ve noticed that a number of NH Collection properties have appeared in my recent searches through Fine Hotels & Resorts and/or Chase’s The Edit. Those searches have almost all been for overseas hotels; the GHA Discovery footprint is far smaller in the US than overseas.

While full status benefits can be found here, key benefits at the top two status tiers include:

• GHA Platinum: 6% back in Discovery Dollars (hotel rewards), Welcome Amenity, 3 pm late checkout (subject to availability), and room upgrade (subject to availability)
• GHA Titanium: 7% back in Discovery Dollars (hotel rewards), Welcome Amenity, Complimentary Breakfast at some brands, Double upgrade (based on availability), 11 am check-in (based on availability), 4 pm late checkout (based on availability), Status Sharing (sounds similar to Hyatt’s Guest of Honor, though note that this benefit is not available to those matching, so you won’t be able to share your matched status unless you requalify), and more

The benefits at top-tier Titanium are obviously far more compelling. Since they are matching easy-to-get hotel statuses like IHG Platinum (which is now a benefit for new Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders and also comes as a benefit of the IHG Rewards Premier and IHG Rewards Business credit cards) and Hilton Honors Diamond (which comes as a standard benefit on the Hilton Honors Aspire card), I imagine that many readers will qualify for a match to Titanium (those with harder-to-get Hyatt Globalist and Marriott Platinum or higher also match to GHA Discovery Titanium).

Unfortunately, many of the GHA Discovery Titanium benefits are based on availability, and I imagine that recognition of those benefits varies widely by brand and even by location. I far prefer guaranteed benefits to those that might be available to me even without status. That said, with SLH and Greg’s experiences with Preferred Hotels having increased my interest in boutique hotels in recent years, I could imagine the benefits working out well in some instances. I would particularly appreciate the early check-in upon arrival in Europe, though, again, I don’t love it being based on availability.

I wouldn’t recommend throwing down $150 on the off chance you might book a qualifying property by the end of 2027, but if you have plans that include some of their brands or destinations where they have a strong footprint, it might be worth considering. As my travel plans for next year start to come into focus, and with a number of Edit credits / potentially expanded Fine Hotels & Resorts credits on the table now or in the near future, I might consider this match.

For the New Orleans location, the award pricing for stays on weeknights when taking into account the 30% discount is 22,500 Virgin points per night, while for weekend nights it’s 32,500 points per night.

For the Dallas hotel, weeknights with the discount are 25,000 points per night, while weekend nights are 37,500 points per night.

That’s a fairly hefty number of points, so be sure to check what cash pricing is like in case this works out to be a particularly poor deal, especially if you’d be transferring points to Virgin in order to book an award stay.

In case you’re not familiar with these two features, Airbnb Experiences is an opportunity to book Viator-style tours and activities with a local, while Airbnb Services are local services you can book which can be for services like catering, a photographer, massages, hair styling, etc.

3X SkyMiles is a decent enough reward if you’d be booking Airbnb Experiences or Airbnb Services anyway. However, it’s hard to get excited about those relatively low rewards when there are frequently Amex Offers and Chase Offers for similar sites like Viator, not to mention shopping portal rewards that can far, far exceed 3X SkyMiles (like 30%+ targeted cashback offers through Capital One Shopping for Viator, TripAdvisor Activities, Klook, etc.)

The only reason I might be inclined to book Airbnb Experiences or Services is if there was something truly unique being offered on there that’s not available through other tour / activity / experience sites. Still, having additional opportunities to earn rewards is never a bad thing; just don’t let it encourage you to make a sub-optimal booking when a cheaper and/or more rewarding offer might be available elsewhere.

IHG Business Rewards normally offers 3 points per dollar, so this double points promotion means you’ll earn 6 points per dollar.

Those 6 points per dollar you’ll earn are in addition to the standard points that the person staying will earn, including the bonus points from IHG’s new promotion on the personal side. Unfortunately you can’t double dip the points for yourself, but if your partner is registered under your IHG Business Rewards profile or vice versa, that’s a way for your household to earn both the 10X base points on the personal side and the 6X from this promotion. Quick Thoughts

While 1,000 bonus points per night isn’t a huge return, it’s nice to at least have something if you’re booking a one night stay seeing as Best Western’s separate promotion requires a minimum of two nights during its promo period.

If you’ll be staying two or more nights, it gets even better. That’s because you’ll earn 1,000 bonus points from this promotion on up to 20 nights, plus it should stack with the other promo that’s awarding the 5,000 bonus points for every two nights. That means 7,000 bonus points every two nights on top of your standard earnings. 7,000 points are worth ~$42.50 which is a much more rewarding return than most other hotel program promotions.

Although the two promotions should stack and the stay dates overlap, do be aware that stays for the 5K/2 night promotion have to be booked by May 10. This 1K per night promo on the other hand is valid for all stays completed by September 7, regardless of when you book the stay(s) during the promo period.

Quick Thoughts

Unless you know for certain that you’ll only stay two or three nights during the promotion period, it makes sense to register for the ‘Earn 8K points every four nights’ rather than the ‘Earn 2K points every two nights. That because if you register for the 8K promotion and only stay two or three nights, you’ll earn zero bonus points. However, if you register for the 2K promotion you’ll only earn 4K bonus points every four nights rather than 8K. Even if you stay for six nights, you’d only earn 6K bonus points under the 2K offer versus 8K with the other offer.

The registration emails that IHG is sending out provide one-click registration for one option, with the other option hidden away at the bottom of the email. On mine, the main option listed was the 2K/two night option, so be careful not to click on the wrong email link as then you won’t be able to switch to the other one. On the registration page linked to in the post above, that lets you choose one or the other.

You can save even more by paying with a card that has the IHG Chase Offer loaded to it or the IHG Amex Offer.

My wife received this offer on her Wyndham Rewards Earner Plus card. Barclays often sends out a variety of different targeted offers to cobranded cardholders, so let us know in the comments if you get something different. The email subject line was “5,000 points bonus offer. Just for you.” I wouldn’t be surprised if email subject lines differ though, due to the nature of Barclays often sending different types of offers.

If you get a similar offer on something like a JetBlue card, that could be an even better deal due to the higher valuation of JetBlue TrueBlue points compared to Wyndham Rewards points.

Note that if you add two or more authorized users, their cumulative spend has to be $200, rather than one single authorized user needing to spend $100.

Be aware that adding someone as an authorized user will show up on their credit report and so it will affect their 5/24 count.

You can call reconsideration, explain the authorized user situation, and ask them to not include those specific cards in the count. Having said that, when applying for a Chase card a few months ago they refused to discount the impact of a couple of authorized user cards for me. When calling reconsideration again a day or two later and speaking to a different agent, I was, in effect, once again told to pound sand as they refused to not consider the impact of those authorized user cards, so YMMV.

However, if 5/24 status is of no concern to you (or your potential authorized user) for one reason or another, these targeted offers from Barclays can be easy, low-hanging fruit for a quick points or miles boost. 5,000 bonus points on $200 spend represents a 25X return on that spend in addition to your regular earnings and it takes minimal effort.

Quick Thoughts

Getting a $50 certificate that can be redeemed at any hotel in the I Prefer program is a decent reward compared to other hotel promos like Marriott’s 2,500 bonus points per stay.

There are several important things to be aware of with regards to eligible stays and the certificates themselves. Stays have to be at least two consecutive nights and you only get a certificate for each distinct hotel you stay at during the promo period, so staying at the same hotel two or more times will still only get you one certificate.

Another key feature of an eligible stay is that existing bookings don’t count; your reservations have to be made after registering for this promotion. Be sure to check the cancellation policy of any existing stays and what the updated (if applicable) pricing would be before cancelling and rebooking, in case the room rate has increased so much as to negate the $50 certificate.

On the redemption side, a key feature worth noting is that the certificates expire at the end of this year. That gives you a somewhat decent amount of time to redeem it/them, but it does mean that it’s not as useful as $50 worth of I Prefer points that don’t expire provided you have some kind of earning/redemption activity every 24 months.

Something I’m not sure about is if you can redeem two or more certificates for the same stay as the terms don’t state that one way or another. If you’re likely to earn two or more of these $50 certificates, that’s worth bearing in mind. Please let us know though if you do earn two or more and are able to redeem them for the same stay, as that’ll be helpful to know. If Preferred Hotels has run a similar promotion in the past, please also let us know how it worked then too if you have any data points.

Preferred Hotels also has a separate promotion that awards 2,500 bonus points when staying at its new properties. That promo should stack with this $50 certificate offer to make it even more rewarding if the hotel(s) you’re staying at are new—or new to I Prefer.

Ideally you’d get this IHG Chase Offer on either an IHG credit card or another Chase-issued card that bonuses travel and/or hotel stays.

The maximum cashback of $62 means you’ll max this out when spending $620. If your stay is due to cost $800 or more and you have this IHG Chase Offer on more than one card, it’s worth asking the hotel to split the charge across two or more cards. Just make sure that each card has at least $400 charged to it in order to trigger the statement credit. Also take into account potential currency conversion fluctuations when doing that if your stay will be overseas.

Even if you’re booking an award stay, this Chase Offer can be triggered if you charge more than $400 to your room. That can include resort fees, meals, drinks, spa treatments, parking, pet fees, etc.

Quick Thoughts

The terms of the Amex Offer state that you have to visit expedia.com/amex, but I’m not entirely convinced that’s necessary provided you ensure that you’re booking a prepaid hotel stay.

Having said that, if you’re wanting to stack this offer with shopping portal cashback, I’d click through from a portal and then manually change the URL to expedia.com/amex. Alternatively, if you have a shopping portal browser extension installed (such as Capital One Shopping), you could go to expedia.com/amex directly and then activate the portal earnings once you get the popup during the checkout process. Dave confirmed in the comments below that this works—with the Rakuten browser extension at least—with a past similar offer.

The eligible new properties were previously bookable for three months ahead of time. Since March 2026 though, IHG has extended the booking window, allowing you to make reservations for the new locations up to six months in advance.

With it being the start of a new month, there’s a new list of new IHG hotels that can be booked with points for a reduced amount.

The Deal

Quick Thoughts

A lot of the new IHG hotels—particularly in the US—aren’t very inspiring seeing as many are for brands like Garner, Candlewood Suites, Holiday Inn Express, etc. However, I find it’s always worth perusing the lists because there are sometimes hotels that could be of interest.

For example, in Mexico there are four new Holiday Inn Club Vacations all-inclusive properties; two in Cancun, one in Playa del Carmen, and one in Puerto Morelos.

In the US there’s the new Kimpton Era Midtown New York. Award nights at this hotel sometimes drop below 40K points, with the 15% discount meaning that even nights that would normally cost 47K points can be booked for fewer than 40K points. That’s notable if you have an IHG Select credit card (no longer available for new applications) as that awards a 40K free night certificate at renewal that can’t be topped up with points. It’s also handy for those with IHG Premier or IHG Business Premier cards that offer 40K certificates that can be topped up, as the price reduction could mean a top up at this hotel isn’t needed—something rare for a Kimpton in New York.

In London, there are three new hotels—two Ruby properties (a brand that IHG bought somewhat recently) and a Hotel Indigo. Vietnam gets a new voco in Nha Trang which looks like it’s right on the beach, while Muscat in Oman also gets a new voco.

There are lots of other new hotels, so it’s worth checking the list to see if any can save you points on upcoming stays.

Quick Thoughts

Ascend Collection and Cambria are two of Choice’s higher end brands, so they’re a better quality stay than other Choice brands like EconoLodge, Rodeway Inn, and Quality Inn.

The Cambria offer has the best return seeing as you’ll get $100 back on $300 spend, although the Ascend Collection offer of only $50 back has a lower spending threshold of $200. Taxes and fees for your stay do count towards the spending threshold in addition to the base room rate, as do other expenses charged to your room like parking, pet fees, meals and drinks, etc.

If your Ascend Collection stay will cost $400+ or your Cambria stay $500+ and you have these offers on more than one household card, you can ask the hotel to split the payment across two or more cards to earn multiple statement credits, provided the amount charged to each card hits the $200 or $300 spending thresholds for the Ascend and Cambria offers respectively.

Quick Thoughts

The best offer here will partly depend on which card(s) you have one of these targeted offers on. The Amex Offer and Chase Offer can save you the most money as you can get $30 back as a statement credit versus only $25 from the Citi Offer.

The Amex Offer could be particularly useful if you’re booking a cheap one day rental as you get 20% back on up to $150 spend with no minimum rental rate. The Chase Offer and the Citi Offer on the other hand require that you spend a minimum of $150.

Bear in mind that Turo isn’t a conventional car rental company. That means your payment card(s) likely don’t provide cover for the rental like they might with rental companies like National, Avis, Hertz, etc. Turo will have coverage options during the booking process.
