Quick Thoughts

Earning 1,000 bonus points for each person you refer is a good offer, especially if the person you’re referring is in your household as that would mean you’d earn 2,000 miles between you seeing as both the referrer and person being referred get 1,000 bonus miles each.

In addition to that, you’ll earn 10% bonus miles for all the miles the person you referred earns in their first six months. If they’re able to rack up the miles during that time period, that could end up being several more thousand miles that you’ll get off the back of the one referral.

Best uses of IHG points

• 4th night free. Use points to book 4 nights for the price of 3. This benefit is valid for longer stays, so if you’re staying 8 nights, you’ll get both the 4th and 8th nights free. This benefit is available only to cardholders of the IHG Premier, Traveler, and Business credit cards. Rather than reducing the total cost of the stay by 25%, the points required for every 4th night are deducted. Seeing as IHG uses dynamic pricing, that can be great if the 4th night is the most expensive, but not as good if that night is the cheapest. See this post for more about the possibilities.
• 10% points rebate. If you have the IHG Select credit card (no longer available for new applications), you’ll get a 10% points rebate when booking award stays. The points are credited back a few weeks after your stay, so you need to have the full number of points required for an award stay in your account. The 10% points rebate stacks with the 4th night free benefit if you have both an IHG Premier, Traveler or Business credit card and an IHG Select card, with the 4th night free being calculated first.
• Sweet spots with dynamic pricing. Although IHG uses dynamic pricing for award stays, award pricing isn’t always as high as the corresponding cash cost. For example, Stephen booked a stay at the Staybridge Suites Temecula-Wine Country in California. The average nightly cost was $258.81 with taxes and fees, but the points cost ranged from 19,000 to 23,000 points per night. Buying points at 0.5cpp would therefore enable you to stay for only $95-$115 per night at that award pricing – less than half the cost of a regular paid stay. Stacking the 4th night free and a 10% points rebate reduced the cost of a 9-night stay there to only 14,500 points per night, or $72.50 per night when buying points at 0.5cpp. That was less than a third of the cost of a paid stay.

Things to know about IHG points

• When you book nights with points, you will not earn points for the stay unless IHG is running a promotion that awards bonus points per night/stay, which includes award nights.
• Most hotel taxes are not charged on award stays, so this can make the value of buying points even better. Arguably, this factor and the one above roughly cancel each other out.
• IHG Rewards points purchases are made via Points.com. You can click through from a shopping portal to earn a little cashback on the purchase, thereby reducing your net cost for the points – you can find the current rates here.
• Points.com purchases don’t code as travel, so it’s best to pay with a card that earns at a higher rate for everyday spend or on a card where you’re working on a minimum spend requirement.
• A couple of readers report that some card-linked IHG spending offers are triggered by points purchases, despite payment being processed by Points.com rather than IHG. See the discussion thread here.

This is a pretty good deal, especially because it’ll stack with shopping portal rewards, along with frequent sales that Giftcards.com has on Visa gift cards, as well as a variety of third party gift card brands. Larger sales tend to be found at this Promotions page (our affiliate link), but Giftcards.com also tends to have a Deal of the Day that can be found on the site’s homepage.

With a limit of $50 back as a statement credit, you’ll max this out when spending a total of $1,000.

Note that this Giftcards.com Chase Offer is only valid for one purchase per credit card that it’s loaded to. As a result, if you’re planning on buying several different gift cards it’ll be best to do that in one transaction that’s for $1,000 or less, unless you have this Chase Offer on multiple cards. If you do have it on multiple cards, you could do separate purchases on each of them if you want. Seeing as this Chase Offer is specifically for Giftcards.com and gift cards are the only thing that site sells, I don’t think you need to worry about your purchases being regarded as abusing Chase Offers.

Quick Thoughts

A few years ago, shopping portal rates for Vrbo weren’t especially good. However, over the past couple of years the earning rates have ticked up.

That said, earning 12% cashback or 12X Capital One miles is still better than pretty much any rate you’ll find on other shopping portals right now. Seeing as these daily deal-type rate boosts are targeted, you might get offers that are even more generous than 12%/12X. In particular, keep an eye out on your inbox as Capital One Shopping often sends members emails with much higher rates than you’ll see when simply visiting the Capital One Shopping website or app.

As a reminder, Capital One Shopping is available to everyone, but cashback can only be redeemed for a selection of third party gift cards. Capital One Offers meanwhile is only available for Capital One cardholders and other account holders (e.g. checking account holders), but offers earnings in miles if you have a miles-earning card, or straight cashback if your card only earns cashback.

To access Capital One Offers, you can find it when logging in to your Capital One account. Scroll down to the section where it says ‘Activate shopping offers’; click on ‘View all offers’ and on the next screen near the top you should see your Vrbo rate.

The discount is only being displayed when logged in to your account, but if it’s anything like similar past award sales, only IHG cardholders will see the discount at the moment, with Platinum and Diamond status holders gaining access in a couple of days.

Quick Thoughts

IHG tends to offer these 15% discount promos a couple of times per year and, for what it’s worth, they ran a similar award sale around this time last year. We normally receive some kind of press release ahead of time to notify us about the promotion dates but haven’t, at the time of publishing this, received anything.

As a result, we don’t know the eligible dates for this sale. If past promos are any predictor, IHG cardholders will have until Tuesday September 22 to book stays through—seemingly, based on my test searches—the night of November 2, 2026 (i.e. checking out on November 3). Platinum and Diamond status holders have historically gained access to these 15% award sales two days later than that; if that pattern holds, that means they’ll get access on September 18, but will only have five days in which to make their bookings. Update: Grant and Ed have shared in the comments that the IHG app is displaying the valid dates for cardholders. Hopefully we’ll find out soon if/when those with Platinum status or higher will gain access (if they don’t already have access).

Past 15% discount award sales have also only been valid for stays of 1-3 nights and that’s likely the case here too. That sadly means it can’t be stacked with the 4th night free benefit that’s available on several IHG credit cards.

These 15% award sales are particularly useful for those who have the old IHG Select credit card (no longer available for new applications). That’s because that card’s anniversary free night certificate is valid for a night costing up to 40,000 points, but can’t be topped up with more points like anniversary free night certificates on a couple of other IHG cards. That means that this award sale means you can redeem those capped 40,000 point free night certificates for an award that would normally cost up to 47,000 points because that would now cost 39,950 points.

We’ve reached out to IHG to get full details about this sale, so we’ll update this post if/when we receive a reply.

Quick Thoughts

A past Turo Amex Offer gave 20% back on up to $150 of spend. That was helpful if you were booking a cheap rental as there was no minimum spending threshold. This latest offer though does require a minimum $150 booking, the same as the Chase Offer and Citi Offer.

Bear in mind that Turo isn’t a conventional car rental company. That means your payment card(s) likely don’t provide cover for the rental like they might with rental companies like National, Avis, Hertz, etc. Turo will have coverage options during the booking process.

Turo’s partnerships with both United and Delta have now ended, but as of August 2026 they have a partnership with Qatar Airways which enables you to earn Avios on your rentals. You can click through to Turo from Rakuten, Capital One Shopping, or Capital One Offers in order to earn additional rewards on your rental as well.

There’s also a Turo credit available on a couple of different American Airlines credit cards at the moment which should hopefully stack with the Citi Offer.

Ordinarily, a 70% transfer bonus would be a superb deal and could make sense for a speculative transfer. That would be the case with nearly all airline programs that are partners with transferable currencies, but it makes less sense with some hotel programs.

And so it is with Marriott. Our Reasonable Redemption Value for Marriott points is 0.73 cents per point which means that with a 70% transfer bonus, you could reasonably expect to get 1.24 cents per point of value from each Ultimate Rewards point transferred over. That’s certainly not abysmal and it’s better than simply cashing out your points for 1 cent per point, but it’s often possible to get far more value than 1.24 cents per point from your Ultimate Rewards points.

As a result, this tends to only make sense if you’re needing to top up your Bonvoy balance for a particularly valuable award booking. Even then, Marriott points frequently go on sale for ~0.89 cents per point, so it might make more sense to buy points when they’re on sale (provided you’d get more value than that) and save your Ultimate Rewards for a more valuable Chase transfer partner.

In a welcome surprise, both brands returned for purchase on Costco.com yesterday.

The Deal

Quick Thoughts

Saving 20% on Uber and DoorDash gift cards is a great deal, so it’s awesome to see both of these brands return for online purchase. While DoorDash gift cards stopped being available online a couple of years ago, many—but not all—Costco warehouses still sold physical cards in-store.

Uber/Uber Eats gift cards on the other hand had lasted longer online, but hadn’t been available in stores for some time. I haven’t seen any data points yet as to whether physical cards are available in-store again, so please let us know in the comments if you see them. Costco stores can sometimes be weird with their gift card displays, having racks placed in different locations around the store. If they do appear back in stores, there’s no guarantee they’ll be placed next to DoorDash cards or with other dining gift cards.

As well as the 20% discount on these two brands, you’ll get an additional 2% back if you have a Costco Executive membership. In the past, we also sometimes benefited from sales that dropped the price $5 lower to $74.99, so fingers crossed those kinds of sales also make a return.

With regards to the limits on how many you can buy, I believe the 14 day wait between orders is calculated to the minute (or at least that’s how it worked historically in my experience). If you’re planning on buying these cards every fortnight, I’d therefore recommend checking your confirmation emails to see what time you’d placed your last order two weeks previously.

Quick Thoughts

Since many types of Southwest fares can be changed for free, sales like these are a great opportunity to look for opportunities to change the same flight and save miles.

That said, now that they sell basic tickets, watch out for the fact that basic tickets cannot be changed to anything but a higher fare class. That means if you’re booked in Basic and you click to change your flight, the only flight options you’ll see are flights that cost more than whatever you paid for your Basic ticket. If you’re booked in Basic, you’ll want to know how much you paid originally and then just start a clean search from the beginning to see if any of the flights are cheaper. Read more about that in this post.

If you’re booked in Choice or higher, you can simply click “Modify” on your flight and search for the same date. If the cost of your flight or other flights has decreased, you’ll see a negative points price, meaning that if you rebook, you’ll get points back. The same is true if you booked with cash in the sense that if you have booked Choice or higher, you can receive a flight credit for the difference when changing to a cheaper flight. That said, keep in mind the expiration of flight credits. Flight credits created by canceling Basic fares are only valid for 6 months from the date you originally booked. Choice and higher are valid for 12 months from the date you originally booked. If online sportsbooks are legal in your state and BetMGM exists there, the offer is pretty simple: Sign up for a BetMGM account, make a deposit, download the BetMGM app to your iOS or Android device, link your Marriott and BetMGM accounts, place a bet of at least $5 by 9/25/26 and get 7,500 points Marriott Bonvoy points. Based on our Reasonable Redemption Value for Marriott Bonvoy points, the 7,500 points are worth about $54.75. That makes this a good deal even if you lose your $5 bet.

Keep in mind, though, that if you’ve never had a BetMGM account, the initial account opening offer gives you bonus bets back totaling the same amount as your first bet up to a bet size of $1,500. You only need to place a $5 bet to trigger this Marriott offer, and if that is your first qualifying bet and it loses, you’ll get a $5 bonus bet to use to try again. That said, more advanced users can do far better yet with a strategic first bet.

If you live in a state that does not have a BetMGM presence, keep in mind that you can nonetheless sign up for and take advantage of this offer when you are physically present in a state that has online sportsbooks and where BetMGM exists. For instance, if you live in a state without online sportsbooks but you’ll soon travel to Pennsylvania, you could take advantage of the offer while you’re physically located in Pennsylvania (you don’t have to live in the state where you register/place your bet). The app uses geolocation information. To answer your next question, I think they have pretty sophisticated systems to detect and prevent folks from skirting the geolocation rules. In my experience, most online sportsbook apps will allow you to register for an account and deposit / withdraw money from anywhere in the US, but you’ll need to be physically located in a qualifying state to make any sort of wagering activity.

I want to reiterate my caution about getting into this deal if you think you could be predisposed to problem gambling. I have a (completely unproven and unscientific) theory that the “high” of chasing and finding a great award redemption doesn’t differ much from the feeling of a big bet winning. Don’t get in over your head with this stuff over 7,500 Marriott points. At the same time, the rewards can certainly be worthwhile for those who can manage wisely — even more so with those big first-bet offers if maximized.

US Bank runs these promos monthly-ish; previous versions have tended to be 3-tiered, awarding between $450 and $500 when meeting the higher-tier terms. In addition, there is often a US Bank offer on Swagbucks that adds $50- $ 100 if you click through and open an account. That isn’t available right now, so if you’re interested in double-dipping, it might be worth waiting to see if the Swagbucks promo returns, or take your chances and see what comes around later in the year.

US Bank used to allow $3,000 in credit card funding for new personal checking accounts, but I think that’s now limited to $250 (still use it if you have it). This changes periodically, so if someone does the deal and finds they can deposit more, please let us know in the comments.

This is a decent bank bonus opportunity that comes around regularly; we’ve covered versions ranging from $400 to $600 before.

The requirements are pretty simple: make at least two “direct deposits” within ninety days of account opening and sign up for mobile or online banking. US Bank is known as one of the easier banks when it comes to what it considers to be direct deposits, and ACH transfers work with many common banks (you can see the complete DOC list here). While the direct deposit amounts are relatively high, there’s no requirement to keep the money in the account, so you should be able to transfer it back out after it’s deposited.

If you don’t have a US Bank Smartly credit card, you can keep the account free as long as you maintain a $1,500 monthly balance or $1,500 in monthly direct deposits. Members of the US Military, those 65+ in age, or business checking account owners also get the fee waived.

The bonus is limited to those who live in states with a US Bank branch (a wide net… see locations here). That said, if you live in a state without a branch, most folks can get around this requirement by having a US Bank credit card or opening one.

US Bank is fairly strict on its churning rules, so I wouldn’t mess with it if you’ve had an account or received a US Bank bonus within the past twelve months. If you haven’t, this could be easy money.

Quick Thoughts

When buying third-party gift cards, you can earn 4x fuel points, saving you up to 14% on gas. To illustrate how that 14% figure is calculated, let’s say you spend $250 on gift cards during the promotion. That would earn you 1,000 fuel points, which you can redeem for $1 off per gallon on up to 35 gallons. If you can refuel to that 35-gallon limit (perhaps with a large gas tank or by refueling 2+ household vehicles at once), you’d save $35. Saving $35 on the original $250 in gift card spend amounts to a 14% discount.

If your gas tank is smaller, though, your savings won’t be as high. For example, our car holds at most 12 gallons, so we can barely save 5% on gas through these promotions, given how much we spend on gift cards. You can often get better gift card discounts through sites like Raise, so weigh your options before buying at full price from Kroger or its affiliates, such as Dillons, King Soopers, Ralphs, Fry’s, or Smith’s.

You can earn 4x fuel points on gift cards purchased online or in-store, though there are a couple of important differences between the two. If you’re buying in-store, you’ll need to load the digital coupons to your account first, whereas you’ll automatically earn 4x fuel points when buying gift cards online from Kroger.

Another thing to keep in mind is that buying gift cards in-store lets you take advantage of the many cards offering bonus spend at grocery stores right now. Kroger’s online gift card site processes payments through Blackhawk Network (the owner of GiftCards.com), so those online orders don’t count as grocery purchases.

Quick Thoughts

Based on the terms, you only have to leave the money in the bank for ~31 days to get the bonus. This is because you have to deposit $25 initially, then add the remainder within 30 days of account opening. Then, you have to maintain that balance for 60 days after account opening.

It’s important to note that the net upside is a bit lower than the bonus. There are plenty of ways to earn ~4-5% interest right now with savings accounts and CDs, so you’re effectively losing 31 days’ worth of interest on the money you put in. Given that, the opportunity cost is ~$100 for the $25K option, ~$40 for the $10K option, or ~$10 when depositing $2.5K.

That said, the larger bonus still corresponds to a ~40% annual interest rate, an incredible return. At the same time, there’s a minimum time commitment and more flexibility with your money. The smaller version is simply a no-brainer if you have $2,500 that you can free up for a month.

Wells Fargo periodically runs a very similar promotion on its personal Way2Save accounts, but the bonus is only $525 for a $25K deposit requirement, AND you have to keep the money in the account for 61 days instead of 31. This business checking offer is vastly superior.

Do note that there is a $15 monthly fee, which can be waived only with a $500 minimum daily balance (or a $1K average ledger balance). That’s obviously not an issue when you have the required amount in the account, but remember to factor it into the deposit or add $500 initially to avoid the fee being deducted in the first month.

• To participate in the “Stay Two Nights, Get 20K Points” promotional offer (the “Offer”), an individual must be an IHG One Rewards member and must be invited to participate in the Offer.
• After receiving an invitation, the member must register their member number by the date in the invitation in order to be eligible for the Offer.
• Once a member has registered, the member can earn 20,000 IHG One Rewards bonus points after completing two (2) Qualifying Room Nights booked directly with IHG. By registering for the Offer, a member accepts these terms and conditions.
• To be eligible for the 20,000 bonus points, both Qualifying Nights must be completed within 60 days (Offer Period) of the date you registered for the Offer.
• The time needed for awarding points can vary with each promotion, so please allow up to six (6) weeks for bonus points to be posted to your account.
• To be a ‘Qualifying Room Night’ under this Offer, the room night must fall within the Offer Period and be part of a Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stay.
• For the purposes of this Offer, a ‘Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stay’ is defined as a minimum 1-night stay at a participating hotel that was booked directly with IHG through ihg.com, the IHG One Rewards app, an IHG reservations call centre, an authorised travel agent (excluding any online travel agents or other online travel reservation sites, such as Expedia.com and booking.com, and unauthorised agents on online vertical travel portals), or directly with a participating hotel, using a Qualifying Rate and with a total spend of at least $30 USD (or local equivalent) in Eligible Charges per night.
• Stays booked using Reward Nights or Points & Cash are not Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stays for purposes of this Offer.  

Quick Thoughts

IHG is currently running two other promotions offering double elite nights on award stays (see here and here). I believe these would stack with this offer if you’re targeted.

We value IHG points at ~0.6 cents each, so 20,000 should get you at least $100 in redemption value. That’s a great deal for only two nights. Keep in mind that award nights and Points & Cash bookings are NOT qualifying under the terms of the promo.

You’ll earn 1,500 bonus points per paid stay of 2 nights or more, as well as an additional 3,000 bonus points if that stay is at a resort. The amount of points that you can earn from this promo isn’t capped, so you can feel free to go wild with 2+ night stays and watch the points roll in.

Really, Marriott, you shouldn’t have.

• There is no limit to the number of completed eligible paid stays for which a Member can earn bonus Points during the promotion earning period.

• Eligible paid stays at Participating Properties that (i) begin or are completed outside the promotion earning period and (ii) have at least one night’s stay within the promotion earning period will qualify for any bonus Points that can be earned with this promotion.

Quick Thoughts

First off, you should register for this promo in the event that you have a stay that qualifies. It’s marginally better than nothing. That said, the 1,500 bonus points are awarded per stay, not per night. Those points are worth ~$10, so it’s not terribly impressive compared to the cash rates you’re likely to pay.

This promotion is only valid for paid stays; stays booked with points, free night certificates, or with Cash + Points are ineligible for both the bonus points and bonus elite nights.
