ARKive- a place to discover the worlds endangered species. There is photos and videos, lesson plans for teachers, a kids section to make masks, origami, play games and send e cards. Looks like a great site to add for science if your studying animals.

thecolor.com – you can find a TON of coloring pages for just about any subject you are looking for.

StoryBird – is a place to create, read, and share visual stores. I thought this might be a great addition for writing and reading.

Tools For Educators - looks like a fantastic site that has templates and worksheet generators. For example there is word search, dice maker, board game maker, crossword maker, bingo card maker, and more!

Game to Make - This site was another one of my favorites. Has many different printable games for learning.

To get your child excited tell them they will be blowing up their balloon with out using their mouths.

What You Need:

• a balloon
• a narrow funnel
• 1 table spoon of yeast
• 1 teaspoon of sugar
• warm water
• ruler

What you do is measure out the yeast and sugar and put in a small bowl and mix them together.

Grab your balloon and put it on the end of the funnel.

Then pour the yeast mixture into the funnel so it drains into the balloon.

Then turn on the warm water from your sink and add water. What we did was add it until it fills the balloon. Don’t worry it won’t look like a water balloon.

Once you have the balloon filled with the water and yeast mixture you tie it.

Come back to it every so often to see it grow! We took ours outside because the kids wanted to go outside to play but they didn’t want to forget about the balloon.

Have your child measure the balloon every so often!

Your child will probably be asking “How did it do that?”

The yeast uses the warm water and sugar to grow, while it’s growing it gets bubbly. The bubbly that makes the balloon expand is a gas called carbon dioxide. Your body produces  carbon dioxide when you breathe. The balloon is inflating with the same gas you would use in blowing up the balloon with your mouth. 

This week we did finger painting on aluminum foil. I love the effects of painting on foil. Everything is so much brighter. This is not the first foil project we did. We needed some new pictures to hang in the hall way to brighten it up. I love how the colors just pop!

The pictures just do not do these projects justice! My kids decided to just dot their fingers. No smudges or smearing today! I laid out the foil and put the finger paints on a tray and let them do what they wanted to do.

What you need: 

• aluminum foil
• finger paint
• tray for finger paint

Directions:

Just rip a sheet of aluminum foil and let the kids go to town with the finger paints. They can smudge, dot and draw. Just let them go to town and do their own design!

Teaching Ideas – seems like a really great place. I was looking for art lesson plans and stumbled on this one. It has a lot of everything from art, PE, music, history, literacy, math, science, geography, early years, and more. It is a free site. Resources at your fingers.

Math-Play – is a free site that has different math games for 1st – 8th grade. These look like online games.

Inner Body – If your study any part of the human body then this site is for you. Has a diagram and a wealth of information on the body.

Teacher Tube – has many different videos, docs, audio and photos for use and it is a free site. Found a few videos that will come in handy for our upcoming units.

Fuel The Brain – this site is free and has printables, games, interactive, mini books, teachers guide, and articles. It is an elementary site.

We watched The Milkers by Gail Gibbons online which was a Reading Rainbow Episode. We also read the book The Big Red Hen.

I created a farm sensory bin for my daughter. I bought a small container with a lid, raffia, and some farm characters. You can find the farm characters at the dollar store.

We sometimes bury the animals and dig for them. Other times we play with them on top of the raffia which we used for our hay.

Other times my daughter will just play with the pieces. She will identify the animals and make the sounds. She will also use imaginative play and just play with the animals.
