      <content:encoded><![CDATA[Working with In the Pink gallery for the first time, PURE: RANKIN is a distillation of internationally renowned photographer, Rankin, and his approach to creating work. An interplay between light and dark, life and death; the works on display create a conversation through aesthetics.

Curated to showcase Rankin’s work and vision in its purest form, the works on display are not the conspicuously clean shots of social media or advertising, rather an exploration of personality, performance and, in many cases, natural imperfection.  
<br>

Rankin says: “This exhibition is a fresh realisation with my fascination with life and death, and the real vs. the unreal. These are themes which have fascinated me most throughout my career.  
<br>

As I get older, all these ideas become more intertwined in my imagination. They are not mutually exclusive to me, and I am able to find one within another.  
<br>

<br>
To showcase my new floral works alongside archival beauty and portraiture is to draw a line in theme and intent. I always strive to find the reality in beauty. The real person behind any image I take. This is the purest my photography can be.”

Rankin co-founded the seminal magazine Dazed & Confused with Jefferson Hack in 1991 and has since published the likes of AnOther and AnOther Man, alongside over 40 books and the biannual fashion, culture and lifestyle print and digital platform, Hunger. 
<br>
 
<br>
His photography has been published everywhere from his own publications to Elle, Vogue, Esquire, GQ, Rolling Stone, and Wonderland, and exhibited in galleries around the world, including MoMA, New York, and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.  
<br>
He lives in London with his wife Tuuli and their dogs. 
<br>

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[It’s nappy families all round as TotsBots, the award-winning cloth nappy brand based in Glasgow, is now back in private ownership. In December 2020, Magnus and Fiona Smyth sold the company to private equity firm True Global but three years later, they have bought it back!

The couple founded the business in 2000 after spotting a gap in the market for a UK made reusable nappy. They grew it from a kitchen table, work-at-home business to becoming a leading cloth nappy brand, exporting nappies all over the world and employing 55 staff in their factory in Glasgow. With over 20 years of experience, TotsBots now boasts a high-quality, eco-friendly range of nappies made from sustainable materials, including bamboo and recycled plastic waste. The company has also expanded its offering to include reusable period wear brand NORA.

In 2020, TotsBots was acquired by True Global, a company that invests in sustainable and purpose-driven businesses. As part of this acquisition, TotsBots joined forces with Frugi Organic Childrenswear, which was already a part of the True Global portfolio, to form a group of companies with shared values and goals. Magnus and Fiona Smyth stayed on as consultants to continue to provide TotsBots with their experience and expertise.

The excitement was short lived as a few months after the sale, COVID hit the UK and Brexit took hold. Three very difficult trading years followed culminating in Frugi going into administration in November 2022. Frugi was purchased by Celtic & Co in a pre-pack deal to save the brand, and the couple began plans to purchase TotsBots back from True Global - the buy-back deal was concluded on the 16th March; returning it safely into their family fold after three years away.

The couple's key focus will be on reversing some of the previous decisions made while under group management, primarily bringing all production back into the UK, focusing on introducing new and innovative products and injecting a bit of cheeky sparkle back into the heart of TotsBots.

"We are delighted that we can bring the TotsBots brand back into our family," said Magnus and Fiona Smyth. "Our focus now is to get back to the roots of the brand and we are especially excited to be bringing all our production back home; the decision to start offshore production wasn’t something we were particularly happy with, but it wasn’t our baby anymore and we had to let it go. We are really loving getting back into New Product Development and have some very exciting things in the 2024 pipeline. We are also looking forward to growing our NORA reusable period wear brand which launched last year. It’s definitely not where we expected to be, but we are very happy to be here as things could have turned out so differently. It’s great to have TotsBots back!”

Fiona and Magnus Smyth set up TotsBots at the kitchen table in 2000 after the birth of their baby girl, Maia. Appalled at the waste created by disposable nappies, they spotted a gap in the market for a UK made eco-friendly cloth nappy. With the aim to make a positive difference to the world by enabling parents to reduce their plastic consumption and waste, they designed their own nappies and TotsBots were born. The original products were made from simple cotton toweling, but fast-forward to today and their revolutionary and award- winning nappy designs are now made using recycled plastic bottles and eco-friendly bamboo fabrics. Not content with tempting parents away from disposable nappies, TotsBots also design and manufacture reusable sanitary pad brand Nora, helping people to have plastic-free periods too.

The family-run firm of fourth generation growers has been working hard researching and trialing peat free alternatives for the last two and a half years. They have now developed a carefully balanced blend of potting soil packed with sustainable ingredients to provide optimum growing conditions, allowing plants to flourish and thrive without compromising the environment. 
<br>

Co-owner of The Little Botanical, Morag Hill comments: “We are responsible, as growers and plant producers, to protect our natural environment. Our move to peat free growing is challenging, but exciting and we hope to lead the way for other growers to follow.

As the UK government continues with their recent pledge to remove all peat compost from sales to amateur horticulturalists and gardeners in the coming years, The Little Botanical are now planting or rooting all of their plants in peat free compost at their nurseries in West Sussex, which accounts for over 70% of their current range. They are also working closely with their specialist growers in the continent to help them transition to 100% peat free.

The new range, which is available from this spring, is not only a powerful step towards The Little Botanical’s sustainability goals but is also an important response to the growing demand for peat alternatives from consumers who are increasingly striving towards a greener home and lifestyle.

Why is peat bad for the environment?
<br>

As a finite, naturally occurring resource, peatlands, bogs and moors have developed over thousands of years from decaying compressed vegetation throughout Europe. It is a unique ecosystem covering 3.7 million square kilometers and works as an efficient and effective carbon sink. Since 1990 the removal of peat has released over 31 million tons of carbon dioxide, one of the direct links to climate change. Home to a rich diversity of plant and wildlife, the UK’s already vastly depleted native species can not afford to lose any further habitats.

For centuries, the breakup has been the prerogative of men. In the 19th century, romantic love emerged as the basis for marriage and changed the game. In the days of arranged unions, one could blame society if things didn't work out. But since the conceptual evolution of the marriage towards a sentimental vision, the breakup becomes an attack on the inner self.
<br>

<br>
Today, about half of all marriages in Europe and the UK end in divorce, and significantly, 75 per cent of divorce applications are filed by women. Perhaps that last statistic explains why women suffer more emotional hurt and find it more challenging than their ex-partners to build a new lifestyle and relationships. The cruel logic would be that if the woman marries for love and then decides it is a bad idea, the fault must be hers. So she suffers psychological and social consequences – self-blame, stigma, or both. 
<br>

<br>
The project 5-Minute Bedtime Stories courageously resists this logic. London-based artist Maria Gvardeitseva (divorced after 20 years of marriage, four children, numerous countries, and shared challenges) takes a pronounced political and feminist approach to the story of her separation, which transforms grief, sorrow, and hatred to let them go. She offers artistic tools that help women to look at the situation with self-love, rediscovers the socio-political aspects of marriage, and cope with this life trauma and the challenges of patriarchy.
<br>

<br>
She surprisingly does this – by reference to fairy tales. In this structuralist masterpiece, The Morphology of the Folk Tale, Vladimir Propp described the typological similarity between a fairy tale and an initiation rite. The initiatory nature of marriage – to the secrets of sex (as it used to be), childbirth, etc. – is not in doubt: the number of hallucinations and fantasies explicitly associated with marriage and weddings in modern popular culture spills over.
<br>

<br>
Think only of the diamond engagement ring. It is a marketing success of the ruthless De Beers diamond monopoly and not a widespread tradition: diamonds are rare because De Beers controlled supply, and they are popular because the company backed substantial marketing campaigns, which made diamond engagement rings de rigueur. The ring on a severed finger in Gvardeitseva's installation emphasizes this irony. 
<br>

<br>
What particularly interests Gvardeitseva is Propp's idea that, in the fairy tale, the hero's initiation to an adventure and a new status depends on stepping outside an institution and violating an interdiction. The hero – or heroine – is told, "Don't, on any account, go out of the garden!". But they do go out, and then the impossible and fantastic happens.
<br>

<br>
If the only status imagined by our culture following divorce, the end of love or betrayal of a partner is drowning in a lake, retirement to a nunnery, or waiting for the next love-and-marriage opportunity, we perhaps need to think again about divorce and separation as an initiation and not always and inevitably as a tragedy.  
<br>

<br>
The institution of marriage is less powerful now than it was in the past (in Slavic countries, almost within living memory, girls who died before marriage were buried in a wedding dress as if to atone for sin). No doubt there are reasons for that. However, women's experience of divorce and separation as victims or guilty parties is worse than inexpedient.
<br>

<br>
Using the parallel with fairy tales, Gvardeitseva suggests that violating an interdiction or stepping outside an institution can be a brave step with transformative consequences. Could there be a fairy-tale divorce? A more intense life in the self-revealed sense, initiation to a new stage, or ultimate return to the same marriage institution in a more satisfactory form. A variety of possible "happily ever afters."

Each of my heroines, whose stories became fairy tales, spoke about the refraction of pain, about the fact that there is light at the end of the tunnel.  And this light is self-love, we ourselves."

About Maria Gvardeitseva

Maria Gvardeitseva is a multi-disciplinary visual artist based in London. Gvardeitseva holds a diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK (2007), completed the New Media Course at the University of Denver, Denver, CO (2011), and is working on an MA in Art and Politics at Goldsmiths, University of London (2022-current).
<br>

<br>
In her works, Maria Gvardeitseva works ironically with themes of memory and sublimates pain in ways that are at once realistic and fantastical. The political plays a crucial role in her installations, and in one of her recent exhibitions, Maria placed her Belarusian passport in a jar of formaldehyde, comparing torn documents to scattered anatomies in naturalistic and medical museums. In the spirit of Didi Huberman's montage technique, Gvardeitseva works with notions of severance, splitting the essence of objects away from their socially reproducible roles – all things necessary to film-montage our lives.

<br>
Maria speaks clearly and straightforwardly of the pain and emotional experience of exile, the collapse of time and the strangeness of love, leaving room for a metaphorical reading where the versatility of emotions is the key focus. As a principle of Gvardeitseva's artistic practice, aesthetic distancing creates room for thought and gives physical awareness of the surrounding space.

The documentary series aims to inspire businesses and people to take collective action to ensure a better future for all. ASICS was selected as a representative of the sportswear segment and emphasized the importance of reducing environmental footprint and protecting the earth for the future generations to take part in sports.

ASICS insists that society is facing huge environmental challenges that will affect participation in sports; risk to the athlete’s health from the heat, restrictions on people to play outside, shorter game time, limited audience for sports, and so on. It is crucial to protect a healthy planet for people to play on as ASICS stands for “Anima Sana In Corpore Sano”, a Sound Mind in a Sound Body and believes that "Exercise has a positive impact on mental wellbeing".

ASICS has set an ambitious goal of reducing 63% greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2030 (2015 baseline) and using 100% renewable energy across business facilities. By 2050, the company is aiming to achieve net-zero. To achieve these goals, ASICS encourage suppliers to align with its targets, to maintain earth temperature rise within 1.5℃, and shift to renewable energy.

Introducing a variety of new products for retail and hospitality POS at the event, Star will be exhibiting its latest printer in the Star mCollection, mC-Label. Ideal for a range of applications and environments including food labelling in QSR, retail, healthcare and logistics, this versatile printer can print on a variety of media including die cut, linerless and continuous labels. Offering flexible connectivity including USB-C, LAN and Star CloudPRNT™, the printer is designed to work with traditional systems, network, web-based systems or connected to a wide range of tablets or mobile devices, where the printer’s USB-C port can power and charge the device as well as provide network tethering via Star’s SteadyLAN+ technology.

Furthermore, Star’s new TetherLAN technology included with the mC-Label allows a tablet or device with an active cellular (4G, 5G) or WiFi connection to share that connection with the mC-Label printer. This enables the printer to then print directly from cloud-based services, including StarPrinter.Online, whilst also enabling remote management and diagnostics, as well as making any supported, connected USB peripherals “Cloud Enabled”.

Building on its POS printer expertise, Star has expanded its portfolio to encompass a range of POS peripherals. As a result, businesses can develop POS systems in the knowledge all products and peripherals are successfully integrated and provided by a single manufacturer.  At the event, Star will be exhibiting its versatile tablet stands for retail and hospitality POS, visitor management and self-service applications, alongside its CD4 series of cash drawers.

The universal mEnclosure tablet holder for a wide range of Apple, Android and Windows tablets provides a versatile and secure solution that is compatible with Star’s new mUnite stands. Available in black or white, the mUnite stands maintain a clean design, concealing all the cables that keep devices connected whilst routing power supplies under the counter to recapture space in busy environments. With desk mounted, wall mounted and floor standing versions available, the mUnite stands offer a flexible solution for retail, hospitality, visitor management and any environment in which customer interaction is key.

The new CD4 series of cash drawers is available in two sizes for medium and high cash volume applications.  With a black or white finish and stainless steel front design, this series complements the Star printer and mUnite tablet stand range and provides the versatility retail and hospitality businesses demand.

Alongside hardware, Star offers additional software and integration tools for enhanced connectivity. Star’s CloudPRNT technology benefits retail and hospitality by enabling customer orders to be sent directly to the printer from an online ordering service or app, eliminating the need for an additional tablet in the store, bar or restaurant.

For a fully managed service, Star will be demonstrating its unique StarPrinter.Online dedicated service for businesses to manage the printer estate with minimal setup time and cost as well as near zero integration. This allows printing direct from an ordering website through the REST API or direct from the page with JavaScript, or even via email. The ordering service can not only communicate directly with the printer to create print jobs but also receive the status of the printer estate. Thanks to an online dashboard, users have an overview of all devices and activity including reliable tracking of print jobs with notification of device status changes, barcode scans, new device connections to a group, etc. Additional printers and peripherals can simply be added without the need for server upgrades.

A commitment to creating innovative solutions, combined with Star’s renowned expertise in the thriving kiosk market, has resulted in successful integrations of both its Sanei and packaged printer ranges with Star looking to further expand its range of Sanei printers in response to growing demand for compact kiosk printing solutions.

Based on an established long-term partnership with Evoke, Star printers have been integrated into a diverse range of kiosks for tier one retail and hospitality chains for retail check-out and Click & Collect applications as well as food and beverage ordering. Beccles, Suffolk, 21 April 2023.  PCE Automation Ltd today announced that the company has been awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise, in recognition of its excellence in innovation.
<br>

<br>
PCE Automation Ltd specialises in bespoke automation, repeat automation, and value-added services, including pre-automation and aftercare services to address the varying needs of customers across a range of industry sectors including ocular, medical and pharmaceutical. Its product handling, assembling, and testing systems have a global reputation for innovation and quality.  Founded in 1961 by Ernest James Cook, the company was previously awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2020 for international trade putting it in a select group of companies who have won both the Queen’s and King’s Awards for Enterprise. PCE is a trusted partner to many blue-chip, industry-leading life science organisations around the world.

The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon Rishi Sunak MP, recommended that the company should receive one of the inaugural King’s Awards for Enterprise, in recognition of a key innovative project in the ocular sector - which it delivered for a major global manufacturer of contact lenses.  The project enabled the manufacturer of ‘made to order’ on demand (MTO) silicone hydro lenses to reduce its lead times to the end-user and greatly enhance the efficiency, flexibility and scalability of the manufacturing process. In doing so, the company has uncovered major commercial opportunities and an increase in market share. Not only was the manufacturing time cut, but the productivity output was increased by circa 360%.

CEO, James Cook commented “The King’s Award for Enterprise is the most prestigious British business award because of its provenance as the Queen’s Award.  To be recognised for our contribution to innovation reflects the huge team effort made by each member of our staff to develop a range of world-leading solutions with innovation incorporated across the board - in design, project management, engineering and software programming.”

Employing 99 staff at its Beccles headquarters and 22 at its Lutterworth site, PCE is focused on staff empowerment, achievements and well-being and has exciting expansion plans to develop its site, recruit more staff and expand its presence within Europe. In 2022 PCE announced an ongoing acquisition of an Irish organisation, which will see it become a multinational corporation, helping to expand its geographical presence and diversification into numerous automation growth sectors.

MP for Waveney, Peter Aldous MP, supported the application for the King’s Award for Enterprise and has taken an active interest in the company.  He commented, “Congratulations to the team at PCE Automation on this prestigious accolade.  With a focus on empowering employees, PCE is a business of which East Anglia and Suffolk can be proud”.

In its inaugural year, the King’s Award for Enterprise follows 57 years of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, where previous winners included J.P Morgan, iCandy, Veolia and Willmott Dixon.

The next celebratory steps for PCE include a listing in a special edition of the London Gazette, published in April, which will carry the names of all of the winners.  The London Gazette is the oldest English newspaper and is an official journal of record of the British Government.  A Grant of Appointment ceremony will take place at PCE’s office (date tba) with the county’s Lord Lieutenant and local VIPs. The Lord Lieutenant is His Majesty The King’s local representative and will personally present a crystal trophy to the PCE team. In addition, CEO, James Cook will visit Buckingham Palace in the summer for a celebratory reception, which is hosted by His Majesty King Charles III.
