According to a recent study, there has been a notable increase in multi-generational holidays in 2023. The study indicates that a significant 89% of vacationers are now contemplating the idea of planning a getaway involving at least three generations of their family.

Having other members of the family about helps take the burden off of new parents with 95% considering booking a group holiday. 55% say it is so important for them as they are more relaxed than when they are at home.

Grandparents are excited to celebrate milestone events with 33% saying the most important thing for them is to ensure there are plenty of activities for everyone, a fifth say it is key they can indulge in luxury experiences.

The research, commissioned Visit Dubai and based on a survey of a thousand British adults, suggests families are increasingly looking for opportunities to spend quality time together with 70% expressing a desire to creating lasting memories while on holiday.

More than half (52%) said they looked forward to experiencing and discovering shared interests with their family, and just over a quarter (26%) said they wanted to make up for time they feel that they lost during the pandemic. Two fifths (43%) of respondents said the most memorable moments of quality time they had experienced were the ones they spent with their whole family while on holiday.

According to the survey, the top holiday priorities for parents are good value (61%) and good weather (60%), while grandparents put a high value on having a stress-free and relaxing experience (49%). The younger generation, unsurprisingly, just want to have fun, giving their vote to plenty of activities (68%) and entertainment (65%).

One thing that the whole family can agree on, is that good weather is at the top of the agenda with parents saying this is the most important thing for them (60%) grandparents agree at 52%, and kids at 46%

Features include Free Crash Detection, Enhanced SOS and Tile integration

LONDON, UK - Life360, the family locator app and safety membership platform, has today announced a 64% growth in UK premium members over the last year, alongside a range of new features included in its free membership offering, rolling out over the next weeks. This includes further integration with Tile, the leading Bluetooth tracker brand it acquired in 2021.

Used by more than three million people in the UK and 50 million people worldwide, Life360 offers families peace of mind by allowing them to coordinate daily activities in real time, find important items, stay connected with those who matter most, and assist in emergencies.

Its existing features include; advanced intelligent location sharing between Circle (group) members through Place Alerts, which send a push notification when members leave or arrive at a designated location; Check-ins, which allow a user to send their location via push notification instantly to every member in their Circle and Family Driving Reports, which allow families to see how (and what) drivers are doing behind the wheel to encourage safe habits and more.

New free features unveiled include:

Free Crash Detection, which notifies Circle members and emergency contacts when Life360 detects they are in a car accident. If help is needed or the member doesn’t respond within a five-minute grace period, all Circle members and emergency contacts are notified via a text message with the user’s exact location. The app notification will also play a unique sound on the phone that will repeat for either 10 minutes or until the notification is acted upon. Of course, no one ever expects to be in a car crash, but the truth is that they happen more often than you might think and the time it takes to get help is critical.

Enhanced SOS, which means that after triggering an SOS Alert, a 10 second countdown will begin, after which Life360 will call and text all Circle members and emergency contacts for the Circle the alert was triggered in. Circle members will also receive a push notification. The phone call and text message will say where the user was when the SOS Alert was triggered. SOS alerts are available to all Life360 users, meaning parents of all ages, including new drivers and university students, can be reassured that if a loved one requires emergency assistance but can’t contact 999 because they are unable to talk on the phone, Life360 can help.

The Tile integration allows Life360 users’ entire "Circle" of family and friends to see the location of important items within their Life360 map. Life360 members will automatically be able to see Tile and Tile-enabled products' last reported location, so everyone in their Circle can easily locate shared items or help each other retrieve something that's been misplaced. Tiles can be attached to everyday essentials like bikes, keys, wallets, bags, and more.

David Rice, Life360’s International GM and CSO, said: “There’s a reason why one in eleven UK families already use Life360. The launch of these new services form part of our vision to expand our offering in the UK and to help better connect and protect the people and things that matter most.

“Members can now expand their Circle to include items using Tile and these services combined feed into our mission to deliver safety options for families and their things. So whether you’re retrieving keys lost down the back of the sofa with Tile, or sending your teen driver immediate help following Life360’s crash detection, the ability to confirm the people and things that matter most are safe and accounted for and takes the stress out of everyday life.”

As a top 25 iOS app in the UK, Life360 will be introducing more additional features to the UK market over the coming months.

A new commentary on research explores the strong link between neurodivergent (here identified as Autistic, ADHD, Dyspraxic/DCD and Tourette’s syndromes) children and young people (CYP) with joint hypermobility and pain as a co-occurring physical health challenge. The topical review emphasises that physical challenges frequently get overlooked compared to the mental, emotional, and sensory issues faced by neurodivergent CYP. This makes neurodivergent CYP vulnerable to unnecessary suffering and important diagnoses being delayed or missed.

Lack of diagnoses and absence of the required medical help for CYP is resulting in ongoing physical health problems including but not limited to – joint pain, gastrointestinal/stomach pains, dizziness, bowel bladder issues, heart palpitations, anxiety, and extreme fatigue and tiredness. The study co-authored by Bethany Donaghy, Dr. David Moore, and Jane Green MBE, highlights three key challenges for the children and young people in schools:

--- Symptom disbelief and lack of understanding: is a common issue as medical practitioners are not trained to trace the symptoms or conditions within neurodivergent populations. As a result, children and adults are often disbelieved and this leads to further delays in diagnosis or support in education and care. This can lead to lifelong trauma for neurodivergent CYP.

--- Communication issues: including differences in interoception, meaning one’s inner sense, can be varied among neurodivergent CYP, and typically, it requires a lot of staff training to spot the symptoms of health conditions. This means the people are often misunderstood, have no other choice but to learn to ‘mask’ their pain, and do not receive help or support for these physical health problems that occur with neurodivergence more than the general neurotypical population.

--- Educational impacts: abound for neurodivergent CYP because of continuing physical health challenges due to which they end up having poorer attendance and attainment in mainstream schools as well as poorer social life with their friends/peers. This affects their mental health and wellbeing as well. Due to the mistrust or misdiagnosis in their symptoms, CYP often struggle to even get a sick note for the school from their medical practitioner due to symptomatic hypermobility being relatively unknown by medical practitioners.

The authors recommend that “all” voices of CYP should be taken into consideration for all decisions made by educational institutions and health professionals. Increasing support for attendance and attainment, updating the school environment to help manage and understand pain, providing symptomatic hypermobility training to staff, upgrading diagnostic and treatment pathways through dual-screening for hypermobility with neurodivergence, building trust with pupils, enabling support for parents/carers and looking into the need for further funded research, are some of the ways to improve the situation.

Bethany Donaghy, the author of the research paper, explains, “Within my wider research, I speak to neurodivergent children and parents regularly and unfortunately the concerns we present here are far too common. It is unfair that the neurodivergent population continue to experience such negative outcomes with their physical health experiences. We must do more as a society to address this inequality and support neurodivergent CYP now rather than continuing to do so later."

Dr. David Moore, the author of the research paper, adds, “The lack of knowledge about pain in neurodivergent populations is concerning as pain may be the first or only sign of illness or injury, and these individuals may be both at greater risk of injury as well as requiring complex care for ongoing pain. It is clear that more work is needed prevent unnecessary suffering.”

Jane Green MBE, the author of the research paper, comments, “Having gone through the personal experience of not being believed for 54 years of my life, I myself present an acute observation to the challenge of symptom-disbelief faced by our society. I didn't mask being neurodivergent, but I learnt to mask the pain associated to being symptomatic hypermobile. The paper validates that younger generation, in addition to the older generation, continue to be mistrusted about their dual condition of hypermobility and neurodivergence. Comprehensive staff training and screening for people who work in education, health and care will help us provide the opportunity, especially to the CYP, to have much healthier and fulfilled life in education, employment and social mobility.”

It’s nappy families all round as TotsBots, the award-winning cloth nappy brand based in Glasgow, is now back in private ownership. In December 2020, Magnus and Fiona Smyth sold the company to private equity firm True Global but three years later, they have bought it back!

The couple founded the business in 2000 after spotting a gap in the market for a UK made reusable nappy. They grew it from a kitchen table, work-at-home business to becoming a leading cloth nappy brand, exporting nappies all over the world and employing 55 staff in their factory in Glasgow. With over 20 years of experience, TotsBots now boasts a high-quality, eco-friendly range of nappies made from sustainable materials, including bamboo and recycled plastic waste. The company has also expanded its offering to include reusable period wear brand NORA.

In 2020, TotsBots was acquired by True Global, a company that invests in sustainable and purpose-driven businesses. As part of this acquisition, TotsBots joined forces with Frugi Organic Childrenswear, which was already a part of the True Global portfolio, to form a group of companies with shared values and goals. Magnus and Fiona Smyth stayed on as consultants to continue to provide TotsBots with their experience and expertise.

The excitement was short lived as a few months after the sale, COVID hit the UK and Brexit took hold. Three very difficult trading years followed culminating in Frugi going into administration in November 2022. Frugi was purchased by Celtic & Co in a pre-pack deal to save the brand, and the couple began plans to purchase TotsBots back from True Global - the buy-back deal was concluded on the 16th March; returning it safely into their family fold after three years away.
The couple's key focus will be on reversing some of the previous decisions made while under group management, primarily bringing all production back into the UK, focusing on introducing new and innovative products and injecting a bit of cheeky sparkle back into the heart of TotsBots.

"We are delighted that we can bring the TotsBots brand back into our family," said Magnus and Fiona Smyth. "Our focus now is to get back to the roots of the brand and we are especially excited to be bringing all our production back home; the decision to start offshore production wasn’t something we were particularly happy with, but it wasn’t our baby anymore and we had to let it go. We are really loving getting back into New Product Development and have some very exciting things in the 2024 pipeline. We are also looking forward to growing our NORA reusable period wear brand which launched last year. It’s definitely not where we expected to be, but we are very happy to be here as things could have turned out so differently. It’s great to have TotsBots back!”

With TotsBots' return to Scottish ownership comes an exciting new chapter for one of the UK’s most loved reusable nappy brands. As Magnus and Fiona embark on this new journey together, they look forward to creating innovative products that make parenting easier - all while reducing waste from single use nappies! Their renewed passion for providing eco-friendly alternatives to single use products and their experience running two successful brands over 20 years, will ensure that it will be another success story for the couple - enabling them to continue on their mission to prove that small changes can make a mighty difference, for all of us!

Fiona and Magnus Smyth set up TotsBots at the kitchen table in 2000 after the birth of their baby girl, Maia. Appalled at the waste created by disposable nappies, they spotted a gap in the market for a UK made eco-friendly cloth nappy. With the aim to make a positive difference to the world by enabling parents to reduce their plastic consumption and waste, they designed their own nappies and TotsBots were born. The original products were made from simple cotton toweling, but fast-forward to today and their revolutionary and award- winning nappy designs are now made using recycled plastic bottles and eco-friendly bamboo fabrics. Not content with tempting parents away from disposable nappies, TotsBots also design and manufacture reusable sanitary pad brand Nora, helping people to have plastic-free periods too.

They are suppliers to the Scottish Baby Box (TotsBots) via PHS, and also to the DfE Period poverty scheme (NORA) and Excel (NORA)providing free period products to all local authority education establishments helping to put an end to period poverty throughout the UK.

The majority TotsBots & Nora products are made using Oekotex-certified fabrics and are manufactured in their factory in the East End of Glasgow.

Background information

TOTSBOTS - Why Parents choose cloth:

They perform better than disposables

They save money - disposable nappies cost up to £1800 per child. Reusables will cost £150 to £350 depending on the brand and system chosen. They will last until potty training and can often be used for more than one child.

They divert waste - 5000 nappies thrown away per child amounts to 2 tonnes of waste per child.

They reduce raw material consumption by over 98% - Reusables will use around 2.5KG of reusable nappies whilst disposables will use around 150KG per child. (NB soiled nappies are much heavier than unused disposables)

They don't contain chemical gels, perfumes or known irritants, often found in disposables

They are much easier to use and wash compared to the nappies of days gone by.

They are much more attractive than throwaways; cloth nappy fans are known to proudly show their stash shots on instagram, inspiring other parents to make the switch.

Children potty train sooner in reusables.

TOTSBOTS - Some Facts & Stats

It is estimated that 2 in 10 parents are now using cloth. This has increased from 6%, 3 years ago. It is anticipated this figure will continue to grow.

8 million nappies are thrown away every day to landfill, that’s 3 billion per year

Disposable nappies take 500 years to degrade.

Landfill is running out in the UK so this waste will soon have to be incinerated releasing toxins and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere

Including the energy to wash, reusable nappies are 25% better for the environment than disposables and eco disposables and use 98% percent less raw materials

Eco disposables are not the answer, they use the same amount of energy and raw materials to produce as disposables and what’s worse is they don’t actually biodegrade in landfill. Very little biodegrades in landfill as it is so tightly compressed there is no air and they end up preserving waste. Landfill sites are only designed to store waste not break it down. What little does break down releases methane, further contributing to greenhouse gas emissions.

NORA - Why people choose reusable period wear:

They perform better than disposables, more absorbent and much more comfortable.

They save money - Reusables will cost £50 depending on the brand and system chosen, compared to £500 in disposables.

They will last for up to 10 years

NORA – Some facts and stats (source Womens’ Environemental Network)

Women use more than 11,000 disposable menstrual products in their lifetime - based on average of 38 years of menstruation using 22 items of sanitary products per cycle, 13 cycles per year. 1

Statista estimated that in 2016, an estimated 1.8 million women (aged 15+) in the UK used 25 or more menstrual towels a month.

Average menstrual flow is around 85g per cycle. Barely enough to fill a small teacup. Most women and people who menstruate will do so for on average of 38 years and have approx. 500 periods in their lifetime.

The average of commencement for menstruation is 12 yrs old, although it can be as early as 8 for some girls and people who menstruate. 3

There are around 18 million women of menstruating age in the UK.

Disposal of single use menstrual products - tampons, pads and applicators generates 200,000 tonnes of waste per year.

NORA - Environmental impact by the numbers

Most menstrual pads are made from 90% plastic.

Plastic products can take up to a thousand years to decompose in landfills or in the ocean.

Half of UK women flush tampons away. It has been estimated that 1.5-2 billion menstrual items are flushed down Britain’s toilets each year.

There are approximately 370,000 sewer blockages throughout the UK every year, of which up to 80% are caused by fats, oils and grease, wipes, sanitary waste and other unflushable items.

As many as 51 trillion microplastic particles - 500 times more than the stars in our galaxy —litter our oceans and seas, seriously threatening marine wildlife.

Microplastics can be twice as harmful leaching toxic additives into the ocean while they break down while also acting like a sponge absorbing other harmful chemicals from the sea water onto their surface. This makes them a very toxic morsel for fish, sea mammals and the humans that eat them.

Plastic waste kills up to 1 million seabirds, 100,000 sea mammals, marine turtles and countless fish each year. Plastic remains in our ecosystem for years, harming thousands of sea creatures every day.

To celebrate his entrepreneurial success Abdul Thadha, founder of online retailer Books2Door, was invited to No.10 Downing Street for an official reception last week.
After being crowned winner of the Scale Up Business of the Year category in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2022, Abdul was honoured to be invited to the reception which took place on Monday 24th April.
The children’s online retailer specialises in book sets and series, rather than one-off titles, which relies on a unique business model. As a result, Abdul has been able to scale his ecommerce business tremendously in the last five years and is on track to meet target sales of £25m by the end of 2023.
Abdul explains: "I was delighted to be invited to No.10 Downing Street for the official reception, what a wonderful opportunity to meet other entrepreneurs and share success.
I’m extremely proud of our business. As a team, we recognise the challenges parents may face either financially or with getting children to read. But we know at the same time – they want their children to fall in love with books and so do we.
So, we make it easier by packaging entire books by an author in a series or collection in a single box. Most importantly, we are constantly striving to make it as affordable as possible."
Books2Door has also been shortlisted for not one, but two awards in The British Book Awards (by The Bookseller) for the second year running - known as the ‘Nibbies’ of the book industry. These awards, which take place this month will see Abdul’s company shortlisted for Children’s Bookseller of the Year and Book Retailer of the Year against the likes of Waterstones and WHSmith.

A UK teacher and pupils from a grassroots campaign vow that young people will never be afraid of periods again.

Last week saw period underwear brand WUKA come under criticism from some viewers for showing period blood and clots in their new Sky TV advert. But UK teacher and activist Chella Quint welcomes this honesty:

“Pupils tell me they want to know EVERYTHING about periods, they want to be able to trust teachers to tell them the truth and this advert does that. When I was a kid there were clots in my period, and I had no idea what was going on. Clots look like liver. I genuinely believed my organs were coming out of my body and that I must be dying. I was terrified. The one-hour period talk I’d had didn’t explain enough, and my pupils feel the exact same way.”

To prove it, kids are writing the lesson plans they want to see, and teachers are here for it. Chella’s campaign, Period Positive, is running a 1 month design challenge throughout May. Young people from around the country are already coming up with new ways to fit periods into the curriculum, to help all teachers become teachers of periods.

The lessons are designed to fit in with all subjects and be taught by all teachers. “It’s important that men and boys are not just included in the conversation, but helping to lead it. It’s 2023, periods shouldn’t be coming as a shock to anyone!”

The pupils will be launching their resources on 20th May at Sheffield Town Hall as part of the Festival of Debate , so other schools can try them out and give feedback. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/period-positive-schools-menst...

Interactive lesson ideas already range from:
Business Studies: a “supermarket sweep” looking at how consumers choose menstrual products
PSHE: an ice-breaker activity using a red tortilla chip and dip tray to frame a discussion around healthy eating and moods throughout the cycle

“Creativity and interactivity are key - periods are a topic that involves a lot of shame and fear and pupils struggle to get their voices heard - with this project they are leading the conversation.”

Chella has already supported pupils and teachers across the country to speak out against menstrual taboos, by signing up for the Period Positive Schools Badge. Nina Gunson, Sheffield Girls’ High School headteacher says:

“We're excited to be a Period Positive school! Seeing how much this means to our students and how empowered they felt to have a lead voice in this area, I would encourage other schools to sign up for the Period Positive badge and become Period Positive Schools!”

Chella thinks the reaction to the WUKA shows that there is still a lot of work to be done:

“The backlash shows how our discussion of periods is still defined by taboo and misinformation - imagine if those viewers had had accurate, and shame-free period lessons throughout school. There’d have been no complaints. I really believe the world would be a better place.”

Schools can still get involved by visiting periodpositive.com and following @period_positive on Instagram

ASA Foundations mission is to Support, Transform and Save the Lives of those affected by Autoimmune Disease.

In the UK, 7%, or 4 million people, are known to live with at least one autoimmune condition. There are nearly 100 identified autoimmune diseases, with incidence rising 9% each year. This is predicted to be significantly higher now that we are aware of Long-COVID. As a group they are a bigger killer than cancer and include conditions such as MS, Alzheimer’s, lupus, scleroderma, endometriosis, asthma, autism, Parkinson’s, Crohn’s, eczema, psoriasis and many more. Even cancer is related as it is an autoimmune dysfunction.

Autoimmune Support & Awareness Foundation UK (ASA Foundation) is a registered UK charity. It was established by Asal Shirazi BEM in late 2022, after many years of her personal advocacy and as a direct response to the lack of information available for sufferers combined with the limited training provided to the primary care sector.

Asal has a life limiting condition called Diffuse Systemic Scleroderma, Sjogren’s, Raynaud’s, Hashimoto’s, lupus plus many more, all autoimmune conditions. She was initially misdiagnosed which has led to more internal damage, affecting her physical and mental health. There are millions like her who have been mis or late diagnosed and thus a bigger burden on the NHS due to late treatment and unnecessary cost.

According to Asal, “It’s all down to awareness and education. We need everyone to be able to spot the signs and be able to access the right kind of tests quickly”. In many ways COVID has helped people be more aware of their bodies, they now need to recognise that there are many more autoimmune conditions which can be equally as dangerous if undetected.

What is clear is that the emotional and mental impact on an individual can be life-changing and debilitating; depression, anxiety, and loneliness are common side-effects of a diagnosis. It is predicted that 66% of people living with autoimmune diseases have mental health problems and 68% of people with autoimmune diseases are unemployed or unable to work full-time.

The NHS is under ever increasing pressure with waiting lists only set to get longer. But the alternative doesn’t need to be expensive private healthcare, there is another way. In response to this ASA Foundation UK has recently partnered with Living Room Health. “Speed to Diagnosis is key if we are to deal with growing number of people affected by Autoimmune Disease. We are delighted to be able to partner with Living Room Health to be able to make this happen” says Prof Ash Professor Ash Mosahebi, Consultant Plastic Surgeon – MBBS FRCS FRCS(PLAST) PHD MBA. Professor Mosahebi is the head of one of the largest plastic surgery teaching units at a leading London hospital. He carries out reconstructive surgery for the after effects of cancer and deals with patients deformed by the effects of autoimmune disease every day. Living Room Health is making private healthcare more accessible to take the burden off the NHS. They offer a self-pay solution for diagnosis and treatment and have created an immediate, straightforward, and cost-effective approach to healthcare, providing same day appointments and a range of services and treatments from MRIs to joint pain management to GP services.

Being admitted to upper secondary education at age 16 greatly reduces young men’s propensity to commit crime, new research from Aalto University School of Business in Finland reveals.

Associate Professor Kristiina Huttunen from the Department of Economics at Aalto University School of Business, finds that male teenagers who obtain a place in upper secondary education are 52 percent less likely to be convicted in a district court within 10 years of being admitted.

The researchers add that being admitted to a vocational or academic path in upper secondary education has no effect on men’s likelihood of committing minor crimes, nor does whether they study at an “elite” school or not. Obtaining a place at any school is what has a sizeable impact.

“Applying to secondary education is the first crucial choice adolescents make in most education systems. It usually coincides with the end of compulsory school and the age when propensity to commit crime rises sharply. The choices students make at this stage affect who is in their peer groups, and making a mistake can increase the chances of dropout,” says Professor Huttunen.

During the study period, compulsory education in Finland ended in the May of the year students turned 16. They had the option of entering academic or vocational upper secondary education, which usually lasts for another three years.

At the same time, the minimum age of criminal responsibility in Finland is 15. From this age, the likelihood of male students engaging in minor crimes rises rapidly, peaking at ages 19-20, says Huttunen.

This study analysed data on the eight cohorts of male students who applied to upper secondary education between 1996-2003 from the Finnish joint application registry. Criminal activity is measured using information from district court rulings.

The paper was published in The Journal of Public Economics.

PCE Automation of Beccles, Suffolk, wins the inaugural King’s Award for Enterprise 2023
Manufacturer is honoured with the UK’s most prestigious commercial award for innovation

Beccles, Suffolk, 21 April 2023. PCE Automation Ltd today announced that the company has been awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise, in recognition of its excellence in innovation.

PCE Automation Ltd specialises in bespoke automation, repeat automation, and value-added services, including pre-automation and aftercare services to address the varying needs of customers across a range of industry sectors including ocular, medical and pharmaceutical. Its product handling, assembling, and testing systems have a global reputation for innovation and quality. Founded in 1961 by Ernest James Cook, the company was previously awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2020 for international trade putting it in a select group of companies who have won both the Queen’s and King’s Awards for Enterprise. PCE is a trusted partner to many blue-chip, industry-leading life science organisations around the world.

The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon Rishi Sunak MP, recommended that the company should receive one of the inaugural King’s Awards for Enterprise, in recognition of a key innovative project in the ocular sector - which it delivered for a major global manufacturer of contact lenses. The project enabled the manufacturer of ‘made to order’ on demand (MTO) silicone hydro lenses to reduce its lead times to the end-user and greatly enhance the efficiency, flexibility and scalability of the manufacturing process. In doing so, the company has uncovered major commercial opportunities and an increase in market share. Not only was the manufacturing time cut, but the productivity output was increased by circa 360%.

CEO, James Cook commented “The King’s Award for Enterprise is the most prestigious British business award because of its provenance as the Queen’s Award. To be recognised for our contribution to innovation reflects the huge team effort made by each member of our staff to develop a range of world-leading solutions with innovation incorporated across the board - in design, project management, engineering and software programming.”

Employing 99 staff at its Beccles headquarters and 22 at its Lutterworth site, PCE is focused on staff empowerment, achievements and well-being and has exciting expansion plans to develop its site, recruit more staff and expand its presence within Europe. In 2022 PCE announced an ongoing acquisition of an Irish organisation, which will see it become a multinational corporation, helping to expand its geographical presence and diversification into numerous automation growth sectors.

MP for Waveney, Peter Aldous MP, supported the application for the King’s Award for Enterprise and has taken an active interest in the company. He commented, “Congratulations to the team at PCE Automation on this prestigious accolade. With a focus on empowering employees, PCE is a business of which East Anglia and Suffolk can be proud”.

In its inaugural year, the King’s Award for Enterprise follows 57 years of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, where previous winners included J.P Morgan, iCandy, Veolia and Willmott Dixon.

The next celebratory steps for PCE include a listing in a special edition of the London Gazette, published in April, which will carry the names of all of the winners. The London Gazette is the oldest English newspaper and is an official journal of record of the British Government. A Grant of Appointment ceremony will take place at PCE’s office (date tba) with the county’s Lord Lieutenant and local VIPs. The Lord Lieutenant is His Majesty The King’s local representative and will personally present a crystal trophy to the PCE team. In addition, CEO, James Cook will visit Buckingham Palace in the summer for a celebratory reception, which is hosted by His Majesty King Charles III.

SCUDI International BV announced today that its growing client base has necessitated the recruitment of distribution partners in the UK and Europe. Using SCUDI gives employees instant and anonymous access to their salary before payday.

SCUDI is a social impact FinTech and an Enterprise Software SaaS provider. The company, founded by Rie Sordo-De Cock, Group CEO (pictured), has successfully developed an innovative application solution which gives employees instant access to a portion of their earnt salary.

The application is already in use at several logistics companies in Germany. In the current economic downturn and cost of living crisis, it is fast becoming a popular solution for both employees and employers. The SCUDI mobile app gives access to salary funds between paydays at no cost to the employee (with no transaction or interest charges). It is secure, anonymous, easy to use and fast; the funds reach the employee’s account within minutes of the withdrawal transaction.

SCUDI helps employees with their financial well-being and gives peace of mind, with the freedom to do what they want with their wages; thus empowering the employee.

Employers with 1000+ employees utilising SCUDI, could reap the benefits of improved staff motivation and performance; resulting in lower absenteeism, better staff retention and even attraction of new employees, which is crucial in the current war on talent.

SCUDI helps strengthen a company’s social profile and corporate image. The social element of ESG (environmental, social and governance) becomes fully measurable and reportable. SCUDI is integrated with the payroll and thus completely automated for the internal administration and personnel department. SCUDI has an affordable pricing structure for the employer.

SCUDI International BV is now actively seeking distribution partners in the UK and Europe to service the growing number of new enquiries. The company is also open to investment opportunities to fund its expansion programme.

A youth-led green revolution is taking place across England, as 5,000 young people create, organise and run environmental social action projects to make their schools and communities better places to learn and to live in by improving access to nature and addressing the global climate crisis.
The 5,000 young people - called Green Influencers - have all been recruited through the Green Influencers Scheme, a three-year match funded project between educational charity The Ernest Cook Trust and the #iwill Fund. Its target was to recruit 5,000 Green Influencers, which it reached ahead of the Scheme’s third annual conference, held in Derbyshire.
At the conference – which was entirely organised and run by young people – some of the Green Influencers showcased work they have been doing and spoke passionately about what the environment meant to them.
This included Green Influencers from Polygon School in Southampton - Jack, Ivan, Aden, Owen, Tyler, Tash and Harley, aged between 12 and 14 – who have set up a project called The Green Phone Initiative to repair broken mobile phones and prevent electronic waste from going into landfill. They’ve turned it into an enterprise, as the donated phones are mended and then sold on at a small profit. This also helps people on low incomes to buy preowned phones. The team have even made a sales video.
Under The Green Influencers Scheme, The Ernest Cook Trust has given grants to 36 Host Organisations to support the employment of 44 Green Mentors. The Green Mentors’ role is to enable young people to lead the way as Green Influencers on environmental social action projects in their schools or communities.
The Green Influencers Scheme is match-funded through the #iwill Fund. The #iwill Fund is made possible thanks to 66 million pound joint investment from The National Lottery Community Fund and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to support young people to access high quality social action opportunities. The Ernest Cook Trust is acting as a match funder and awarding grants on behalf of the #iwill Fund.
The Green Influencers Scheme conference also featured youth-led workshops, showcasing other Green Influencers projects:
•	The Planet People (Gosforth East Middle School, Newcastle-on-Tyne) – the pupils are building an eco-classroom, using bricks created from 2 litre plastic bottles, filled with single use plastic.
•	Hamstead Hall School Green Influencers, Birmingham – the pupils have been learning about the impact of food on carbon usage and the importance of carbon literacy and have created a resource to teach other schools in their area about these subjects.
•	Regional Youth Climate Assembly (RYCA), Yorkshire and the Humber – this workshop looked at a vision for a youth-led green future, how they developed their manifesto and the partnerships which have helped influence social action on a regional, national and international scale.
•	HedgeHunters, Hull - working with the University of Hull, the Green Influencers looked at the importance of hedgerows and demonstrated the citizen science app they helped design, which maps gaps in hedgerows.
•	Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s Young Rangers – working with Babbling Vagabonds Theatre, Green Influencers created an innovative energy saving campaign via an animated film.
As well as organising the conference, speakers and workshops, the Youth Conference Committee members Mohammed, Olivia, Tasneem and Esther also had key roles on the day as Masters of Ceremony for plenary sessions and running publicity and social media.
Speaking at the conference, Dr Ian Gambles, Interim Chief Executive of The Ernest Cook Trust, said everyone had a responsibility to understand and try to solve the issue of climate change and the wider impacts on nature.

He said: “All of us have this stewardship responsibility but children and young people will be here longer, will teach the next generation how to care for our world, and will face the growing challenges of the climate and nature crises as they start to bite deeper through the century. I’m delighted that we have been able to be part of building this fantastic network of mentors and influencers who have done, and are continuing to, do so much to bring these challenges, and the positive ways we can respond to them, to the forefront of young peoples’ minds.”

Helen Whyman, Head of the #iwill Fund, added: “The purpose of the #iwill Fund is to increase the opportunities for young people to take part in high quality youth social action across England. We’ve seen that in fantastic ways across the Green Influencers Scheme and the work they’ve been doing in environmental youth social action.”

Young referees across the UK are being offered a helping hand through a new fund set up in memory of Joel Richards, who was killed in a terrorist attack aged just 19.
Joel was a promising referee with his sights set on the Premier League, but his journey was cut short when he, his grandfather Pat and uncle Adrian were killed in the 2015 Tunisia beach attack.
His younger brother Owen, who survived the attack, and his mother Suzy, from Wednesbury, went on to set up the Smile For Joel charity in his memory, helping families affected by murder and violence.
The charity has now launched the Joel Richards Development Fund to help young referees who may be struggling with costs.
Suzy said: “We are so proud to be able to offer this help to young referees in Joel’s memory. Whether it’s kit or training costs, or maybe they’ve been asked to ref abroad but can't afford to travel – whatever it is we can help.
“Joel was a Level 4 referee at the age of 19 and his dream was to become a Premier League referee. He was robbed of that dream, but now we want to give someone else that opportunity.
“We felt we wanted to do this for Joel and we know it’s something he would be proud to be part of.”
Owen added: “The aim of this fund is to be able to reward those young referees who give back to those around them and encourage them to continue on in their football journey in the same way we know Joel would be doing if we were lucky enough to have him with us.
“I believe this is something that reflects and represents who Joel was as a character. He would be tremendously proud to have this in his name."
The charity had previously run the Joel Richards Foundation Legacy Fund in partnership with Birmingham FA.
It is now being relaunched as the Joel Richards Development Fund in collaboration with the Referees’ Association and has a much wider reach and scope.
It is open to young referees aged between 16 and 26 who have been a paying member of the Referees’ Association for two years.

But celebrities are not the only ones embracing a more natural approach to baby naming. The latest figures from The Office Of National Statistics shows that baby names like Eden, Willow, River and Forrest are growing in popularity. Ivy and Willow are both Top 10 names for girls in the UK and over 5,000 babies were named River last year.

The inspired-by-nature trend is also reflected in a growing desire to live a more natural family life.
According to Sudocrem, who researched the trend of “natural” parenting, we’re going to see more parents buying natural and sustainable alternatives when it comes to skincare, clothing and food. Sales of organic baby food and sustainable clothing made from natural cotton and linen continue to increase. More new parents are also making a conscious choice to limit screen time and spend more time with their child outside in nature.

“Molly-Mae chose the name Bambi for her baby daughter which isn’t just Italian for baby, it’s also the name of the famous doe-eyed Disney character and this is the interesting bit,” says Alice Bamford, Senior OTC Marketing Manager at Sudocrem. “More and more parents are not only choosing baby names inspired by nature but they are also opting for a more natural, eco-conscious life for their children so they’re choosing products like Sudocrem Naturals which is a naturally formulated nappy cream.”

To celebrate the new edition to the Sudocrem family, Sudocrem are offering ten natural baby wash kits to parents who have picked a nature-inspired name for their baby.

“We’d love to hear from parents who have chosen natural baby names,” says Alice, “and if you have named your baby Apricot, which is the magic ingredient in Sudocrem Naturals, let us know and we will send you a year’s supply of our latest product!”
