Today we talked about comets and how they differ from shooting stars. We also made comet puppets and labeled the parts of the comet. We also received the edited video of our space play and the kids had fun watching themselves on TV!

This week we focused on our rhyming skills. We read the book, " Words that Rhyme with Bug" and each student made their own rhyming books. We also worked in our journals.

Kids this week worked on their own books about the solar system and also took turns looking through a real telescope outside. Due to the time of day, we did not see any stars or planets, but kids where able to focus on far away terrestrial objects such as the weather vane on top of the library and the fire hydrant at the end o the drive way!

Rain! This afternoon we read a book by David Shannon called, " The Rain Came Down" and drew our own pictures about the weather.

Today we read a book about a boy who plants a carrot and watches it grow. We also ate a healthy snack of celery and carrots with different kinds of dip and had a cookie for everyone who joined the " Clean Plate Club."

This week we played a phonemic awareness game called, " Let's Talk" that develops skills such as rhyming and identifying syllables and consonant letter sounds. We also wrote in our journals.

We introduced problem solving this week. We identified a problem as:
• Something that goes wrong.
• Something that makes us feel worried or upset.
• A situation in which we need to decide what to do.
We will begin talking about the steps to take in solving a problem next week.

Today we watched a short video about astronauts lives in space. We then made out own " Space Pudding" and ate it like astronauts in zero gravity from sealed bags.

Having completed our " Letter of the Week" curriculum, we have moved on to activities that emphasize early reading skills and phonemic awareness. This week we worked on invented spelling in our journals and played " Lower Case Bingo."
