A former office managing partner of Massachusetts law firm Nutter McClennen & Fish has resigned and has been temporarily suspended from practicing law after acknowledging that he misappropriated funds from the firm and trusts he was in charge of as a trust and estates partner.

The lawyer, Matthew Bresette, formerly served as the head of Nutter McClennen’s Hyannis office—the firm’s outpost in Cape Cod and its only office outside of Boston. He stepped down in March after the firm demanded his resignation. In mid-June, Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Justice David Lowy issued an order calling for Bresette’s immediate temporary suspension as a practicing lawyer, pending the full outcome of a disciplinary case against him at the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers.
