Landlord-Tenant—New York City’s Housing Authority (NYCHA) Housing Assistants Provided False Affidavits of Service—Court Urged NYCHA to Take Remedial Action to Address Possibility That “Sewer Service” Occurred in Other Cases

This decision involved six nonpayment cases that had been commenced by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). NYCHA had moved for entry of default judgments and warrants of eviction. Upon reviewing the litigation papers, the court found “apparent irregularities in the service of rent demands” by NYCHA’s Housing Assistants (HAs). Therefore, the court scheduled an inquest hearing.
