Cracked Out Chicken Tater Tot Casserole – You must make this ASAP! It is crazy good. Chicken, cheddar, bacon, ranch, and tater tots. You can make it ahead of time and refrigerate it or even freeze it for later. I usually bake half and freeze half in a foil pan for later. Everyone gobbled this up! Even the super picky eaters.

Can I use anything else besides sour cream or just leave it out?
Plain Greek Yogurt
I made this for dinner tonight and my grandson’s loved it. I precooked 8 chicken breast tenderloins seasoned with salt & pepper, and a dusting of ranch power. Then I pre-cooked the tater tots with some olive oil drizzle & season salt until crispy. I mixed the rest of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl then threw in the cut up chicken chunks. Then I spread a layer of that in the bottom of my dish then topped with crispy tater tots, then another layer of the chicken, then another layer of crispy tater tots, then sprinkled some additional bacon bits and cheese over the top. I baked it for 40 mins and it was perfect!
Absolutely delicious! Very versatile as well. First time I made it, I did not have the ranch packet, bacon, or cream of ckn soup. I sub’d three tbs of knorr vegetable mix, pkt of real bacon pcs, and cream of celery. So glad that it was still delicious.
Next time, I followed recipe as written… fantastic!
Name of recipe is appropriate! You will love it!
Help ! Making this as we speak and didn’t realize I didn’t have a 9×13 pan. Any difference in cook time for a 8×8 ?
Can I put raw chicken in and bake it with the rest of it or does it need to be cooked?
The recipe is written for cooked chicken.
It’s was very good! Made this for the family last night and they ate it all up. I added thinly sliced Serrano to add a little kick.
Came out really good!! I didn’t have a ranch packet so I used Italian and it came out really good! Definitely will make again!
This recipe is FABULOUS! I do add in a can of chopped green chilies. I sometimes use cheese with a bit more heat too. My husband goes fishing once a year with the guys and this casserole is always what he’s asked to bring! I put it together in two smaller aluminum pans and freeze it. It goes in checked luggage and stays frozen all the way to Alaska! The guys thaw it, bake it, and inhale it! I’ve taken it to church potlucks and family reunions and always get asked for the recipe.
I’ve been making this recipe for 3 years now. It’s been mine and my boyfriend’s go to dish for a hot easy meal. We introduced it to our kid and he loves it. Recently we bought everything for it only to get everything out and realize we didn’t have ranch powder and so we substituted taco seasoning in hoping for the best. It came out just as good if not better. I now use ranch or taco seasoning whenever I make it and my whole family loves it either way.
Was delicious. Will be definitely making it again. Thank you 😊
I’ve made this before and it’s delicious, and my family loves it. However I’ll be short on time today, and I am curious if canned chicken can be used?
You can use any cooked chicken you have on hand.
This was amazing! I made it for dinner two nights ago and my husband inhaled it like it was going to vanish. Leftovers last night, the same thing happened. He took a small amount for his lunch today and went on and on about how good it was, even after a couple of days. His coworkers even eyed his plate and asked what smelled so good! I will absolutely make this again only next time, I’m adding more bacon!
After cooking this recipe how long can you freeze it for?
I suggest freezing this casserole uncooked and thawing and baking as directed. I don’t see the need to heat it, cool it, freeze it, thaw it, reheat it. It will keep 3 months in the freezer.
